Hang in there!

We know that you're waiting for the upcoming beta of Opera Mobile v9.5, and we're sorry to keep you waiting. A browser is a complex piece of software and it takes time to put it together. Believe me when I say that we're just as eager as you to get this browser ready and out the door, but we want it to work properly before we let you play with it.
In the meantime, if you know any talented developers, don't hesitate to send them our way.
EDIT: Don't worry guys! This is a minor delay.. we had hoped to have the beta released by now, but you will have to wait another couple of weeks (not months).

My point is that there has to be a balance between not telling at all and giving exact release dates. Not giving end users a realistic, even if a little ambiguous timeframe, leads to unrealistic expectations: many many people believe that the new release is just around the corner and they'll get it in a couple of days or weeks.
Can't you give us a vague idea based on how the work's been going on, like say by May or July or something?

i agree 110% to what Qabir had to say ! I can only hope an Opera respresentative will respond to this.

It would be great to get a timeframe to set our expectations. Are we hanging in there for another month? Six months? Etc.
Either way, I'm looking forward to checking out the beta when it is available.

Any reason why the mobile team doesn't release regular snapshot builds like the desktop team? (Also, doesn't the desktop team do daily or weekly builds too?) I don't think it would be that big of a hassle to install builds regularly since it isn't that hard to back up and restore a Windows Mobile device. I bet there's a lot of people out there who would install these builds and test em for you.

So first of all that means - if UIQ owns the test- builds, and all versions of Opera. And so have the only legal means to deploy the builds - then we're not going to see a public beta for UIQ3.0, nor the final build. Because SE and Motorola don't want to "give" away things for "free", if they can keep it until it's old and dated, and then use it to sell old and outdated handsets in the future. Because they're too lazy and greedy to actually invest in something, apart from attempts to maintain their market- control over their amazing 10% and falling on the smart- phone market. And... then we're not going to see anything else than the test- build on a video until the UIQ3.3 units appear next year. (At which point I will not buy one on principle.)
Second, that means Opera loses a lot of customers now who would be willing to buy the browser. They will also lose exposure because of SE policies and UIQ cowardice. And, well, I suppose I think that should motivate Opera to for example either abandon development for UIQ altogether, until a new handset- maker shows up (never). Or perhaps have a really serious talk with some of the [nice people] over at UIQ. Or else think more carefully about committing to licensed deals like this in the future.
(sorry about the long post..)

Furie, OP says *beta* comming in a couple of weeks

Anyway.. So it's up to Sony Ericsson and UIQ higher- ups. But anything useful turning up on UIQ will probably be in spite of whatever they're going to do in the next couple of years, imo.

This release of mobile should be very important to Opera. It'll have to fend off some serious competition, what with firefox mobile and skyfire slated for a release this year. Unlike the desktop arena, Opera's the big encumbent player in the full-featured mobile browser market, having the most market share, outreach, brand recognition and all. So all newcomers would be gunning for it, trying to outdo it's features and get it's user base. It could be very costly for Opera to make big mistakes and drop the ball. The mobile market is comparatively small, but it's growing rapidly and will be very significent in the future. If I were Opera, I'd take my time and get things right.
If I were an end user feeling impatient with all the time this is taking, I'd take a good look at the cost and consequences of getting this attached to things that only matter in the short run, choosing them over my calmness and sanity of mind. Living a life with this pervasive pattern of always looking, longing, and feeling anxious over the next shiny thing that I'd like to get rightnow but can't, doesn't feel very healthy, satisfying, or right to me.
Whew, this turned out to be rather long. I typed this on my N80 phone, while trying out the new opera mini beta.
