Why didn't we release a final version of 9.5 before skipping to 9.7?

Our core department has released a new version of Opera Presto which contained support for Opera Turbo, more advanced web standards, Gears and several other improvements. We wanted to make this available to our users as soon as possible, and chose to upgrade the core version in Opera Mobile. Updating the browser core is a big step forward for us, and it felt natural to change the version number.
We have to upgrade to a new browser core as often as possible. Several products using a wide range of browser core versions introduces a lot of overhead (several version of core has to be maintained and worked on at the same time), so we try to use the most current stable core version at all times.
With regards to Symbian S60, I can only tell you that we're working on it.. but I'll also add that it's really awesome, and we can't wait to let you guys play with it

I'm on Windows Mobile at the moment and looking forward to the release, but I'm probably moving over to android soon. Has Opera got any plans for an Opera Mobile release for the Android platform or are the plans just to develop Opera Mini further?

You little....!!! If only I could... Ehm, never mind! :D It can't get any more annoying that brag about how great S60 version is and we have to wait for unknown time to be able to use it! I am starting to feel how Gollum felt.

One more thing! This time please release the browser, you skipped version 9 and 9.5 and I do not want this to happen for this release.

This really tells us nothing more than they mentioned s60 a year ago and still we see nothing. They havent mentioned any beta's or asked for beta testers. I consider 9.5 on s60 a complete April Fools day Joke that has continued since last year.

Running on Nokia N95, which is perfectly capable of running games with 3D graphics and other niceties, Opera Mobile 9.5 chokes totally when you render 20 lines in canvas.
Yes. 20 *lines* chokes it down to such crap framerates it's basically unusable.
Anonymous # 8. April 2009, 09:14
Nokia N95 with Opera Mobile 9.5? 9.5 for S60? LOL.
BTW, 3D graphics that are accelerated are completely different from non-accelerated graphics.
zomg # 8. April 2009, 15:39
I don't think the menus etc. in the N95 are accelerated. Or any rendering for that matter. The canvas performance just literally sucks no matter how you look at it.

What about UIQ3? Completely discontinued after 9.5 or is there hope for a new version? 9.5 is nice, but some speed and cache issues could be vanished through "Turbo". Just hoping :)

But the opera browser is a good, yet it is can not beat FireFox /NEVER">
Anonymous # 13. April 2009, 19:05
@antwap: Firefox is a bloated piece of insecure, slow garbage. They couldn't even get it running on a high-end Windows Mobile phone! LOL.
Now go away and quit trolling.

Enough is Enough guys. Stop making fake announcements about an s60 version every few months. If you've really made something, show it to us or stop talking about it.
Anonymous # 14. April 2009, 11:13
Hardeep Singh, are you braindead? They made no false announcements about S60 what so ever! In fact, the whining so far was that they said NOTHING about it!
Loser.
Anonymous # 14. April 2009, 15:57
I hope than the nokia N95 8gb is concerned, il love opera mini but i prefered a native application with the speed loading web pages of opera mini.
Anonymous # 15. April 2009, 19:18
Loser,
They've always said they're working on an s60 version.
Anonymous # 15. April 2009, 20:07
@Hard-deepthroat,
no they have not.
