Do not grow up.

, , , ...

If I had one piece of advice for the young people of the world it would be: Do not grow up.
Your age will inevitably increase and you will someday be able to see pg-13 movies without an adult. You will be able to get a license and drive to school. You will eventually be able to buy porn and visit a strip club. And ultimately you will someday be able to buy alcohol and gamble in vegas. Whatever you do, do not grow up.

Do not go to college.
Do not find a career you will feel stuck in.
Do not take out loans and credit cards.
Do not get into politics or even discuss them.
Do not settle unless you are truly happy with something.
Do not stop perfecting the things you are good at.
Do not ignore the music.

All in all, do not grow up no matter what. You can always be young.

An Awakening

, , , ...

Life is this perpetual thing. Infinite, not really but continuous for sure. It should never be taken for granted but I think we all do once in a while. I'm not sure how things like this come to a person at such strange times but I am sitting here watching Current. On comes Sigur Ros, a music group that my youngest brother is quite fond of but I have never really heard before and something clicked. Maybe it was the previous call from my one of my very best friends as she was in distress and I sat there and explained how no matter what things will always get better. Nonetheless, something clicked.

I'm not sure what it was it was and frankly it may have been an explosion rather. Something just told me that maybe I need to do something bigger. Sure, the club life is fun. The partying is a blast. I have times I will always remember, I won't stop that really. But maybe I need to do something bigger this summer. Maybe instead of waiting for my next out of state booking to come to me or me searching for it, perhaps in the meanwhile I need to plan a vacation. I haven't had a real vacation in years. Maybe I just need to run away for a bit.

Obligations and ridiculousness are what hold down most people in their mediocre day to day 40 hour a week life. I feel that I have broke free from the mundane quite well in my life but it still feels incomplete. Most anyone would tell you that I am a happy person and I would agree, I even am as I type this but I still feel like there is something missing. I need to feel awake.

..Happiness..

, , , ...

Last night I went out to a club I had neglected for a little while to see the internationally famous BT. It was one of the best nights I have ever had in my life. I FOUND MYSELF AGAIN while listening to a friends DJ set of hard breakbeat electronic music. A strange soothing calm came over me and I knew that my streak of despair had ended. I ran into every person at the club that I would want to see and be around and even though some people had some sad issues in their personal lives I feel that my amount of happiness was enough to rub off on them. The music was incredible last night. A lot of it I had heard but I once again felt at one with the music even though I wasn't performing myself. Life once again became beautiful. Everything seemed to continue to align as we even decided to hit an after party where the oddest mix of people that I know came together in some sort of symbiosis that worked perfectly. Junglists were hanging out with house heads and hippies were hanging out with young ravers and every single person had a big smile on their face.

Of course seeing my family yesterday was probably what initially spawned me finding myself again. It was my brothers birthday so my parents had come to pick me up and we hit up a restaurant on the way home, then I made fresh guacamole and Mango/Black Bean Salsa. We had a dinner of tacos, I made mine fish tacos since I am a pescatarian (vegetarian that eats fish and/or seafood). After we all ate me and my brothers did something I hadn't done with them for a long time...we busted out some fireworks and blew stuff up  .

It's really strange how things go around and how one second you can feel horrible and then out of the blue you get smacked across the face with the giant salmon of happiness and you feel better than you ever had before. I have a feeling that from this point on things will continue to be great.

Breaking News: Apple Breaks the DRM Barrier!

, , , ...

This morning Apple and EMI announced a major breakthrough in Digital music distribution by announcing that next month Apple will start offering DRM free music from EMI through its iTunes music store. DRM songs will still be available for the standard price of $.99(upgradable to DRM free for $.30) and they will offer "Premium Songs", which are DRM free and twice the quality, for only $1.29. All of EMIs music videos will also be available DRM free. What does all this mean for the common user? It means that you will no longer have to have and iPod to listen to your music on the go. You will be able to put your DRM free music on to any portable music player that supports AAC format. Steve Jobs went on to say that they plan on offering 2.5 Million DRM free songs by the end of the year from a variety of record labels.

This is huge news for the music industry and especially for those of you who are gadget geeks and don't necessarily want to own an iPod.

Samsung Delivers a Fine Piece of DAP

, , , ...

It seems that all the buzz going about today is all hovering around the Samsung YP-K5 digital audio player, and for good reason. Samsungs newest addition to the world of dap's will come out in the US on September 10th and be available in 1gb, 2gb and 4gb models. It appears that this device is rather bulky in size but it has an excuse for such bulkyness. Hidden on the backside of the player is a pair of sliding speakers that instantly convert your personal player into a miniature boombox of sorts. All of the buttons on this device are touch sensitive and appear non existent when the unit is turned off. This device will display pictures just like the iPod and will also do slideshows to your favorite music, to add to the fun you can use the YP-K5 as your morning wake up in the form of an alarm clock. The device houses USB 2 for data transfer and will support mp3,wma,ogg,asf and jpg. Overall it has a beautiful design and certainly looks like a great iPod alternative, that is unless you have an entire library of music in aac format. Pricing for the player will be $210 for the 2gb, and $260 for the 4gb(no announcement on the 1gb model).

Nokia 6270 Review

, , , ...

Unfortunately there comes a time in the life of every gadget when you have to set it aside and upgrade to something new. Well for me there were a few reasons for me to upgrade my Mobile to a new device so I searched high and low for the right device for me. I am a rather picky person when it comes to mobile phones mainly because of the fact that I have been spoiled by using a Sony Ericsson S710a for the past year. When it came down to the features and price that I was looking for I ended up going with the Nokia 6270 (Nokia, if you are listening, I will gladly accept an N73 for reviewing purposes). One of the main factors that I look for in a phone these days is whether or not it can run the applications that I use regularily, so basically it needs to run Opera Mini.

Upon Opening the box I was greeted by a sleek looking phone, squared off edges, slider, nice large screen, dark brown aluminum exterior. Starting up the phone was a snap, I started off by inserting the SIM card, the included 128mb memory card(can take up to 2gb MiniSD Card) and battery then pressed the conveniently hidden power button(located on the top of the phone). The phone greets you with some friendly Nokia hand holding intro and then you are off. The Series 40 interface is very visually pleasing and is very easy to navigate. One of the main things I was curious about was the active standby mode so I scurried over to the settings and turned it on. Active Standby is basically a way to display important information on the main screen including the calendar, notes, music currently playing, current radio station and shortcuts to frequenly used applications. The Active Standby made going from application to application and song to song a breeze.

As far as music goes on the 6270, I would say it that this phone qualifies as a great way to listen to your favorite tunes. On the exterior of the phone there are two speakers to give you stereo sound. I was skeptical of the external speakers at first but after taking a listen to a few songs I quickly change my mind. Although the speakers don't offer much in the way of bass(what do you expect?, they are tiny) they do offer some pretty incredible stereo seperation for being so close together. When you plug the headphones into the pop port you get sound that I feel is very comparable or better than the iPod. Plenty of volume is cranked out through the headphones and there is an Equalizer to fine tune the sound to your liking.

The camera was one of the main reasons I decided to pick up this handset and so far it's been great. The camera on the 6270 is a 2 megapixel camera with flash as well as video capabilities. When taking photos with the phone you hold it sideways like a digital camera and the button to take the shot is located on the top, the camera will start up automatically when the button is pressed. Unfortunately I haven't been able to take too many photos with this handset yet. The photos that I have taken have come out very well, great color, nice contrast, decent night shots. As I take a few more photos and videos I will update this section.

Overall I would say this is a great handset and would recommend it to anyone looking for a full featured phone that can't or doesn't want to spend $450USD or more on the next step up. I do have a couple gripes but nothing that would deter from the overall experience. The first complaint is that the sliding feeling is a little less solid than the S710a that I was used to using(like I said, spoiled). The second would be that it seems that the battery runs down pretty fast, I haven't run it down to dead yet but it looks like you wouldn't get more than a few days out of a charge. I tend to plug my phone in every night anyhow.

I do have bad news for those people living in the US, this phone is not currently available in the US but you can always track one down Unlocked.

Ladies, Want Some Ear Bling?

, , , ...

Guys, these will cost you substantially less than buying your girlfriend a pair of diamond earrings so in that sense they have to be great. I am talking about the new headpones by Japanese electronics manufacturer Elecom, maker of all sorts of visually attractive gadgets. These bling encrusted headphones are called Ear Drops and they have a whole heaping pile female flair. I think any girl can appreciate a pair of sparkly headphones, I mean dang, these things are so hot I almost want a pair for myself. Anyhow, the Ear Drops come in three different shapes and each shape is available in both White and Black colors.

My iPod doesn't use wires! How about yours?

, , , ...

So Anycom got this marvelous idea in their heads. They decided to take what they do best, which is make bluetooth products, and create a bluetooth adapter for the iPod Nano named BluNa. You might say that transferring music to your iPod via bluetooth would be slow, and I would agree. But imagine using wireless headphones and connecting to your stereo from wherever you are in your house(BluNa is compatible with a variety of bluetooth devices). The absolute beauty of this product is that there is so much potential. This is a huge step beyond all those RF wireless adapters that are so hokey. The device is said to be selling for $119.99, which is a little steap at this point but I wouldn't be too suprised if that price dropped over the next few months. For more information check out the product page here: BluNa

See why 2006 will be more like 1984...

, , , ...

I absolutely had to put something up about this when I saw it, Legos and Apple's 1984 commercial together. PodBrix, makers of custom collectable themed Lego diaramas have gone one step over the edge this time and have done a recreation of Apple's 1984 commercial using Legos and an LED. It's pretty impressive to see one of the most influencial commercials of all time come to life in the form of Legos, I bet if the folks over at Chiat/Day have a tear in their eye right now. If you have an affinity for Apple products much like I do, especially the older years, then I highly recommend checking out the PodBrix website as they make some incredibly fun products. The 1984 playset is being made in extremely limited quantities, 100 total, and is selling for $198.99. You better act fast if you want one though, they just went on sale as I was writing this and with only 100 available they are expected to go extremely fast.

Stick the Cuteness in Your Ear

, , , ...

Hmm? Yes you heard me right, take all that cuteness and stick it in your ear. Sega Toys is going at it for another round of ipod inspired and cute items that you can use to listen to music(see iDog, iFish). This time instead of bugging your fellow terrestrial beings with some barking from your deprived iDog you can listen to the music yourself through the arms of a robot that looks like something from the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy. Sega Toys is coming out with a little robot guy that just so happens to be name Mu-Bot. Much like the stretch armstrong toys of yesteryear, you can stretch the arms of Mu-Bot out but this is so much more functional in the fact that Mu-Bot's arms are really ear phones. And buried in the underside of one of the robots feet is the plug to plug into any audio source. I for one am all about gimmicky little tech items like this so I give this item, despite knowing the sound quality, 2 thumbs up. How can you go wrong having a little robot thinger as your headphones?

BenQ Z2 Qube revisited.

, , , ...

I know I haven't done an entry about this phone on this page yet but I have had a close eye on this one for a long time. The Qube is a complete step away from the standard cell phone in that the form factor is that of a square. The Qube came out last year, obviously not available to the limited US mobile market. But Asia and parts of Europe have been fortunate enough to have this phone graze the shores of their home. So whats the big deal you ask? Well the Qube is another one of those fully functional phones that I keep talking about. The Qube does everything from play music, to videos, to games, shoots 1.3mp still photos, it's just a great all around phone with a very nice set of features. I actually pondered purchasing this phone for myself before I bought the one I have now. The only thing that held me back was the tri-band, it would be so much more if they had just made the phone quad band. Because of tri-band though, it makes this phone an incredible buy for those US mobile users that have t-mobile.
