There are certain brand names out there that strike me as intriguing for one reason or another. Some brands make odd devices that break the norm, some make revolutionary devices that blow peoples minds, other companies just make stuff that works and they do it with style. Nakamichi is one of those brands that falls into the latter category.
Nakamichi is known for making audio gear that is simplistic in industrial design but very functional in the fact that it generally has great sound. This time around Nakamichi is working to improve on the portable dvd player with their new device, the Lumos. Following along with recent UMPC tablet style, Nakamichi has decided to buck the clamshell trend of portable players and offer up a tablet player. With a 7" wide screen display(resolution up to 1440x234) and High Resolution audio that follows along with Nakamichi tradition, this player promises to be a quite the portable device. The Lumos also has an SD slot, mp3 cd/dvd support, digital audio out, carrying case, wrist strap and even a remote.
It seems that with the beautiful design, Nakamichi's reputation for quality, the extra accessories and the $500 price tag, the Lumos is definitely worthwhile. I have to say that I have never been a huge fan of portable dvd players but you can definitely sign me up for one of these.
