This Just in...Sony Drops Mylo!!!

, , , , , , , , ,

The Sony Mylo looks like it will be a pretty incredible device and we will see it sooner rather than later(September to be exact). In my own personal opinion this device may have just bested the iPod. With Wifi(complete with Opera Browser of course), Mpeg4 playback, Audio playback, Qwerty keyboard, Streaming music, Skype, 320x240 Screen, 1gb of Flash Storage with a Memory Stick Duo Pro Slot, and an all around low price of $350 this is looking like it will be one extremely hot handheld device. It appears that Sony has taken a bit of the psp styling and incorporated it into this device as well as some completely original ques. Overall this a beautiful unit that I am extremely excited to see. Sony, I welcome you back to the media playing game.

skype? I wonder, is this a step towards my ultimate device?

alamandrax 8. August 2006, 15:31

phew! for a second there the title threw me off.

I thought Sony was scrapping its plans for the mylo. :D

parsing errors.

DotEd 8. August 2006, 15:45

white please.

demiphonic 8. August 2006, 16:29

ha.. yeah I was now saying that... the functionality may be nice but those colours gotta go :lol I need something in white with orange accents (or maybe yellow or limegreen)

AleksOD 8. August 2006, 16:56

Looks pretty incredible to me... funny, PSP killer is not coming from Nintendo or Apple, but from Sony itself! P:

miamaus78 8. August 2006, 18:40

wow, with Skype. cool.

towolf 8. August 2006, 20:26

320x240?
Come on, the Nokia 770 has 800x600 ...

bodiodo 8. August 2006, 21:16

Nice features, sure, but a colleague of mine suggests that it's not an iPod killer unless it can meet or match iPod's huge internal storage. Absent that, she suggests the device is Sidekick's next big competitor.

So, does Mylo have internal storage, and if so, how much?

Eddie_Lopez 8. August 2006, 21:45

I second the sidekick comment.

Also, iPod killer is a non-starter. It's the iTunes/iPod system as a whole that competitors need to kill.

If I could drop this into a dock when I get home from work and have it synced up and ready to go with all my content that is automagically managed for me... if I can buy and download and manage music from the same interface. If can just as easily get my workout data uploaded/synced etc..

..then it's more of an ipod killer.

That said- I believe iTunes could use a great deal of improvement.

edit/update:
I'm not sure why- but every comment I make here has the wrong URL in the href- Try this:

OK, I bought a Sony PDA... they dropped pda's, I bought an minidisk player/recorder and they have just introduced their last model, so I should buy anything from Sony ????? !
They seem to be fad chasers.

sekurit 9. August 2006, 05:24

another PSPhone

Ramunas 9. August 2006, 09:47

Its not even a phone P:

And its price is too high.

HardMental 9. August 2006, 11:36

Youhou, excellent!!!

Faudra que je pense à économiser pour me l'offrir ou me le faire offrir, c'est une bonne solution aussi ^^ P:

Enjoy

saryon 9. August 2006, 16:24

As with the poster above, I too do not feel this will be an iPod killer. It does have style and functionality, but without the storage capacity all the extra options are gimped. It's like owning a Porche with a 4 banger pulled out of a Geo. Without this feature I don't feel this is worth the price.

Come on Sony, I can't believe Apple has the market cornered on Micro HDD's. Pull a winner out for once and get in the game with the big boys.

garydenness 9. August 2006, 16:25

Rather have an Archos. My AV440 kicks the latest iPod's ass, and it's a discontinued 2 year old model.

organicchunkysalsa 9. August 2006, 17:20

Just to comment on the iPod killer comments, I agree. This is not an iPod killer, in order to do that you would have to have an incredible and complete package to "kill" the iPod. As far as I am concerned the iPod+iTunes is the best package at what it does and it would be tough for anyone to beat that. But in a world where you might have 2-5 gadgets on you at any one time, I would rather carry the Mylo in my pocket over an iPod because then I wouldn't have to carry a laptop, I wouldn't have to have something that plays video(ipod or otherwise), wouldn't necessarily need a phone in my pocket. The one thing that would be nice to see on Mylo would be a decent digi cam, other than that it looks great.

Dunderklumpen 9. August 2006, 19:39

Qtek 9100 anyone?

GunganJedi 10. August 2006, 04:42

searayman 10. August 2006, 05:10

sista_zel81 10. August 2006, 07:00

New technology always intrigues me... the silver Mylo looks good. I'd like to check it out. Not sure if it's released here in Australia yet.

twopeak 10. August 2006, 21:56

Will it install virusses or will it delete all your songs after 6 months because you haven't subscribed to the brand new sony service?
I don't have any faith in Sony anymore; other manufacturers still have some respect for customers and I prefere to take my business there.

Except for the brand, it seems like a coooool device, and I'm pretty sure that's the future! one small device that does all we need. (all we need to be modern, I mean)

liyangoo8 11. August 2006, 03:25

well, the appearence is not very good...

bestdamntech 11. August 2006, 13:21

we're covering this on this weeks show, i realllly want one.

Bantay 11. August 2006, 20:14

Not bad, for a gadget that I lived without 10 years ago, and will live without 10 years from now.

foggy1986 12. August 2006, 02:33

great!
but it's too expensive to have one to me!

JohnLFoster 12. August 2006, 04:10

AWESOME! I've been looking for a replacement for my LG 9800 since it doesn't have a sim chip that I can swap to avoid the noid. I've had it a year and the 9800 is the best hardware out there... but I have been waiting a year for a decent browser for it (opera), flash (in beta) and a VNC client. The Mylo doesn't have a camera but I bet they will put a browser on it that has bookmarks!! Can I write my own applications for it or is it totally proprietary like BREW (the language the VX9800 runs)?

Neilinds 12. August 2006, 16:58

Oh it has a qwerty board ;P ouch! Its not even in the same field as ipod. If the rumours are true that the Apple iphone and if or how its intergrated with ipod could be released (I hope no one held their breath waiting) soon then this could surely widen the gulf between Apple and its competitors. If the phonepod comes about it could be time to kiss your Mylo goodbye! 8(

dailongwu 13. August 2006, 03:19

Many companies put many handheld products on the market everyday. Sony does the same action as the others. Apple Steve Jobs finally knew the customer is king where their pocket money. Sony Mylo still develops the same way as Steve Jobs did a long time ago.
The main success reason of ipod and iTune is easy-to-use from the user view of point. This is one of reasons that computer engineers who design complicated consumer products show up in the market can not get the large market share of the same kind product. I predict Apple will develop mobile phone product as ipod in the near future, not the previous Moto-like one. Wish Sony be success of this Mylo...

tinilam 14. August 2006, 02:01

AiNoTame 17. August 2006, 06:11

This phone kicks that thing's a s s...
W-zero3
Fun stuff.
(And it supports Opera for Windows Mobile! Yay!)

Lara Croft 29. September 2006, 10:32

The little mylo has some great features namely a Linux based operating system
( Sony should drop Microsoft altogether ) Skype and Opera , why didn't Sony make all this part of the PSP , PSP though apparently has headset capability but Netfronts PSP keyboard is much harder compared to mylo. Interesting device that makes online connection portable.
,, er I might even be able to use this in the tombs when I'm next down there
