I'll think of a good title later

Strange how scary a few words can become to the ruling class from the Inquirer

THE US GOVERNMENT is planning to force bloggers who criticise Congress and organise grassroot causes to register themselves or face jail time.

Congress has gone too far. America needs to be liberated.

Do I have 500 readers? If so catch me if you can!

Ministry of Truth

When people start talking about politics it soon turns 'international' & everyone just talks about American foreign policy. Then we non Americans accuse those in the US of having a blinkered world view that doesn't extend past their borders.

For many people their 'world view' blinds them to what is happening within their own country.

Aside from having a fantastic title banner this blog keeps a good eye on UK issues, with well researched posts & very clear arguments.

CSS: Completely Spartan Site

Well, that took longer than expected. Tonight I have spent the evening tinkering away at my own custom stylesheet for this blog. It's been a long time since I've done any CSS hacking. You never know how much you don't know about something until you have to use it.

I was very confused about where all the 'tags' & 'Add images/files' boxes had gone had gone until I realised they shared the "nomarg" class which I had hidden in an attempt to get rid of that irritating edit title button.

As you may be able to see I have pretty much gutted everything out. What can I say? I like the minimalist approach. If anyone is interested my old calendar & sidebar which used to be on the right of the page are up for sale on ebay.

Tonight was also the first time in months that I have fired up FireFox & AAYYYEEEEEE!!! (er.. sorry IE) to check everything displays ok. Everything seems to be in order, but if you think something is missing it is probably because I've intentionally hidden it. If it was important let me know & I might un-hide it.

Blogs are bad, mmkay

It has just dawned on me that I spend between 3 & 4 hours a day reading blogs. :yikes:

My addiction to blogs started mid 2003 & has been getting worse & worse. I have a relatively small set of regular reads, but I tend to follow almost every link they present to me. I also read at least 20 Opera journal posts a day too.

My obsession with blogs has been to the detriment of my juggling & in turn my own website.

That's it as of today I am cutting off the supply. Nurse! Cut the intravenous drip of daily data! I'm going to try to cope on my own.

(still going to post here though of course)

On writing a journal

,

How much thought do you other journalers put into your posts?

I'm not really sure about how I do it myself. I wait until something sparks & I get a subject to write about then I just bash away at the keyboard. I don't really think about the words I just type. Then I click the 'Add Post' button.

Then I read my post. Usually I have to edit half a dozen spelling & gramatical errors. Then I'll reread it again then maybe go back & edit a couple of sentances around.

The end result is definitely more coherent.

Then I usually leave it. However I do tend to worry that the words I wrote actually do convey the message that I intended.

For example the intention of my last post was to show my distaste for people who try to goad, incense or otherwise blackmail the staff at Opera into doing their bidding. But I was worried that some people might read it as a rant against people who haven't registered there copy of Opera (certainly not the case I assure you).

I love writing, but I'm not all that good at it. I make up for what I lack in talent with sheer volume of work. Some people can immediately come up with the correct words to use, get them in the right order & spell them correctly too. My approach is to rewrite, rewrite, rewrite... On my website I am still making small corrections & changes to pages that I wrote over 3 years ago.

Last night after I submitted my previous post there was a problem with the server & I couldn't access my journal to do any checking or editing. PANIC! :eyes:

Maybe I take all this writing lark too seriously?
