Home for the Tribe of the Tired & Stupid ~ Where the World is Always Coming to a Beginning

Poobah's Corner

Post election bliss. The nightmare of Bush will soon be officially finished. To paraphrase Kundera, the lightness of my being is damn near unbearable. The light at the end of the tunnel may be an oncoming train, it may be a brilliant, incandescent light. We will, sooner or later, find out.

I think the fact that Al Gore's voice will now be heard and acknowledged within the halls of Washington is a huge, step forward. Read his opinion piece here.

I hear Guantanamo's days are numbered and I am encouraged. The renunciation of torture techniques and extraordinary rendition need also be laid to rest.

I read opinions from the general public and pundits about McCain's luminous concession speech and how if he had been that forthright in his campaign he might have won. His concession speech was the first heartfelt words he had uttered publicly in a very, long time. He torpedoed his presidential ambitions when he made whatever Faustian bargain he chose to make with the current power brokers. He earned his comeuppance and, all I can say is, that if he wants to regain his stature with me, he will need to declare himself an 'Independent' and behave like one until the end of his days in the Senate.

What John McCain, a politician my dyed-in-the-wool Democrat brother considered voting for in 2000, wrought on the 2008 political landscape, from Palin to insinuations regarding Obama's patriotism, etc, were some of the filthiest ploys ever used in a political campaign. He also needs to publicly repudiate half of what was said over the last two months.

Obama, for his part, needs to grab for the brass ring. There is no time to waste. The window will only be ajar for so long. The contrariness of the American public will return.

I believe he is going to be bold. But not crazy bold. He is going to blow his political capital in an effort to make things happen.

As for my yard sign? The thrice vandalized Obama/Biden sign survived the final two weeks after I posted the admonition for the vandal to respect my freedom of speech rights.

Now that is as good of a reason to hope as any.

I've been wondering where you've been the past week. I sort of imagine you wandering around in a daze of electoral nirvana. Seems I was right. Great link to Gore's article, thanks!
