William Rivers Pitt, editor of truthout.org, nails the whole, sordid Bush presidency on the head. . . again. . . in an article entitled 'Incompetent Design'. His point is that none of the past six years was incompetence. We have witnessed the premeditated evisceration of the promise of the New Deal and the potential of the Great Society. For the Bushites --- the craven and complicit CEOs, the fundamentalist supporters, the fabulously wealthy, the signatories of The Project of the New American Century --- they have reached the promised land --- windfall profits, a pendulum swung hard right and no end in sight to their cash cows.

We will never leave Iraq voluntarily. It is too valuable a resource. Mark my words.

Iraq is NOT another Vietnam --- it is OUR Afghanistan.

Jim Wallis, creator of Sojourners Magazine, author of God's Politics and progressive pastor, popularized the bumper sticker "God is Not a Republican, or a Democrat". I have that sticker on my Cambridge welded "ammo box" that I use like a purse on the river.

I am thinking of modifying it to read --- "God is Not a Republican, or a Democrat, or a Christian, or a Muslim. . . and Boy, If She Exists, She's Pissed."

Someone in one of the papers was quoted as saying, in regards to the Capitol Hill/Seattle slayings, "Should Staples be held responsible if I kill you with a handheld calculator? Blaming guns or gun manufacturers is ridiculous, blah, blah, blah. . . "

All I can say about that is if you want to try and kill me with a handheld calculator, bring it on. I'll take my chances.

Oh, also. Thank goodness for the expiration of the assault weapons ban. I'd hate for common sense to muddy the political waters.

Bill Maher got it right the other night. He ended his cable show saying that the Bush Administration is guilty of treason for putting oil profits before the health of the American people and ignoring the issue of global warming. He said if anyone is asked what our greatest problem is and they do not respond with 'global warming', they are deluded and dangerous.

Bill Maher is funny. Sometimes even funnier than Jon Stewart. But he is being deadly serious regarding global warming. America needs to lead the charge to reduce carbon dioxide emissions and steer the world toward a sustainable future before the Chinese economy catches up to our consumption levels.

Fat chance.

Where can I get an inexpensive Haz-Mat suit?
