//*MY FAVOURITE CHRISTMAS & NEW YEAR POEM*//

RING OUT WILD BELLS
- Alfred Tennyson.

'Ring Out, Wild Bells' is a small part of 'In Memoriam', one of Tennyson's most noted works.
It is an Elegy, a poem of lamentation . The poet laments the death of Arthur Henry Hallam, his college friend and constant companion. But there is always a feeling of joy in his expressions of grief. He sings of the greater things of life and immortality until at last a Christmas comes that finds calm in mind and strong in faith, and in a great song of triumph, the Poem reaches its climax. He speakes of the Hope that we share at the turning of the Year.

*Ring out = Ring out to be heard loudly and clearly.

*Ring in something = to ring bells to celebrate something, specially the New Year.

Ring out, wild bells,to the wild sky,
The flying cloud, the frosty light;
The year is dying in the night;
Ring out, wild bells, and let him die.

Ring out the old, ring in the new,
Ring, happy bells, across the snow;
The year is going, let him go;
Ring out the false, ring in the true.

Ring out the grief that saps the mind.
For those that here we see no more;
Ring out the feud of rich and poor,
Ring in redress to all mankind.

Ring out old shapes of foul disease,
Ring out the narrowing last of gold;
Ring out the thousand wars of old,
Ring in the thousand years of peace.

Ring in the valiant man and free,
The larger heart, the kindlier hand;
Ring out the darkness of the land,
Ring in the Christ that is to be.

*THE SADDEST DAY*
ONCE IN THE MORNING I WOKE UP AND SUDDENLY A CALL CAME.
IT WAS MY UNCLE CRYING ON THE PHONE AND TOLD US MY GRANDFATHER (MOTHER SIDE) WAS DEAD AROUND 5'O' CLOCK IN THE MORNING . SO, IT WAS A VERY SAD TIME FOR ME BECAUSE I USED TO LOVE MY GRANDFATHER VERY MUCH, MORE THAN MY PARENTS. SO WE WENT THERE AND SAW THE DEAD BODY OF MY GRANDFATHER. I WAS FEELING VERY UNEASY OF THAT PLACE BECAUSE MY GRANDMOTHER BECAME MADLY AND EVERYONE WAS CRYING VERY MUCH. I WENT TO CEMETRY GROUND AND I AND MY UNCLE LIGHTED FIRE. BY SEEING THAT MY GRANDMOTHER BECAME MAD. AFTER BURNING MY GRANDFATHER WE CAME BACK BUT AMONG EVERYONE I COULDN'T CRY BECAUSE IF I WOULD START CRYING MY GRANDMOTHER AND MY MOTHER WOULD ALSO START CRYING. SO I KEPT MY PAIN BURRIED IN MY HEART. WHEN WE CAME BACK TO HOME I WENT INTO A SEPARATE ROOM AND LOCKED IT FROM INSIDE THEN AS THE SKY WAS CLOUDY MY EYES WERE ALSO FILLED WITH CLOUDS AND MY DAY ENDED WITH TEARS OF SADNESS.

* It is better not to fight with someone whom you are likely to forgive later.
So it is better at the first place not to fight with him/her at all.
When they provoke you, you can respond with a smile or with a loud laugh. Otherwise it will come down to use of bad language.

¥ FRIENDS OF BIRDS ¥

*BLACK CROWNED NIGHT HERON.

FRIENDS OF BIRDS

,

In Kolkata a Black Crowned Night Heron was rescued by citizens after seeing it hanging upside down from a branch of a lakeside tree in the morning. The bird could not fly because its wings and legs were injured. Citizens leter handed over the bird to district forest department officials, who took it to their office. The bird would be treated at office for a few days before being set free. Night Herons hide behind bushes and branches during the day to avoid the sun and come out after sunset in search of food. They have red eyes. They survive on small fish found in ponds.

How the 'Dark night' made us idiot.

,

We were in the eight standard then. In the winter vacation we (me and some of my friends) went to a village. One day we went to visit the near by village. We were late. As we were, we decided to take a shortcut path. When we were walking, a friend told that this path goes through between cemetery and jungle. Then we became very afraid. Suddenly we saw a woman sitting on a high branch of a banyan tree and dangling her long legs. We were very afraid. We decided to bypass the tree and took another path. In the morning we again went to the spot and saw that there was no Woman, that it was only a white Sari (a long piece of cloth worn as the main garment by Indian women) hanging from the branch. When we saw that we started laughing and came back home.

"ALL FLOWERS AND BABY FACE ARE EVER BEAUTIFUL"

,

*Babies are like tiny flowers; they are varied and need care, but each is beautiful along and glorious, when seen in the community of pears. Flowers and babies both are innocent and delicate. When the are tossed in the breeze, it looks like they are smilling and when a baby smiles, both sight can fill our heart with joy. A thing of beauty is joy forever like wise babies and flowers are also joy forever. When Wordsworth saw a crowd of daffodils, beside the lake, beneath the trees, it became a treasure to him. The sight of the daffodils became a bliss to him in his solitude because they filled his heart with joy. When the baby leaps up on his mother's arm and his little shouts of glee and the touch of the baby bring joy to the parents and in the joy of creation they feel closer to God. The babies are called little god.

A BEAUTIFUL SAY-

"Love is the medicine of any kind of wound.....true..!!
But there is no medicine found in the world for a wound given by love...."

Whenever you miss someone, look at the Sky.
Although you will not see the person there. But feel happy that you two are under the same Sky !

The Song of Death

When I close my eyes,
Every thing in the world
become dark and fade.
Though the Sun lighted in
the world.
But it does not touch
my body, when I lay
under the grave.
No one could awake me,
from the eternal sleep.
When the birds sung in
the spring,
But it is vain to my ears
When I am not in the world.
It gives me a comfort
When my journey ends.
No sorrow, no happiness
no pain and suffering could
not touch myself.
When I lay under the
deep grave.

Come , come death,
let my eyes to close
And give me comfort,
and eternal sleep
When I am not in the world
Oh, God give me peace
and comfort for ever.

///*THE TIGER*\\\

In the midst of a dense forest, a head of spotted deer gather along the banks of a stream to drink. It is dusk - time for the tiger to begin its hunt. Padded paws make no sound as it stealthily approaches its pray from the back but, the alarm calls of the birds and monkeys echo through the silence of the jungle...
And suddenly, the quiet atmosphere is charged with excitement and turmoil.
SUCH IS THE AWE THAT A TIGER COMMANDS !
* Tigers have a white spot on the back of both ears, which look like eyes. These spots are called 'eye spots'
trick predators into thinking that the tiger is looking at them , even when it is not !
* The Bengal tiger's roar can be heard from up to 3 kilometres away.
* Tiger can run with three legs in the air simultaneously !
* Tiger can spend up to eighteen hours sleeping ! Tigers have eyes that are the brightest of any other animal in the world.

I have gone through Sarat Chandra Chatterjee's novel 'Pallisamaj'
Ramesh, the hero, is the man of broad outlook tries heart and soul for the all-round development of his native village. He establishes a school, improves the village path and helps the poor. Surprisingly enough everybody misunderstands his noble purpose. Even his own cousin Beni conspires against him and sents him to prison. Coming out of Jail he again devotes himself in the service of his village. This time nobody disbelieves his sincerity. His unbending spirit of service and strength of character wins over the hearts of people.

///*THE THREE BEST THINGS*\\\

*One fine evening Akbar (The king) and Birbal were walking in a beautiful garden. The sky was clear and the wind blew gently.

They talked about the beauties of nature, such as sunsrise and sunset, the high mountains, the skies at night, the moon and the stars, and the colours of the rainbow. Akbar said "These are some of the gifts of God to man."

Then they talked about milk. Akbar said, "Goat's milk is good for health. Cow's milk is sweeter than goat's milk. But buffalo's milk has more fat in it than cow's milk. So it is the best milk, isn't it, Birbal ?"

Birbal replied, "Mother's milk is the best milk. The child becomes a great man to it."

Akbar then said to Birbal, "The rose is a very beautiful flower. It is the best flower, isn't it ?"

"No," said Birbal, "The flower of the cotton plant is the best flower since it gives clothes to us all."

"And which is the best sweetness, Birbal, asked Akbar.

"The sweetness of kind words, " replied Birbal, "It pleases everyone."

//*Nature wages open war against her children*\\

* The morning had been fine, but it was growing warm and sultry when at last we turned our faces homeward.
Suddenly a change passed over the tree. All the sun's warmth left the air. The sky was black, because all the heat, which meant light to me, had died out of the atmosphere. A strange odour came up from the earth. I knew it, it was the odour that always precedes a thunderstorm, and a nameless fear clutched at my heart. I felt absolutely alone, cut off from my friends and the firm earth. I remained still and expectant; a chilling terror crept over me.
There was a moment of sinister silence, then a multitudinous stirring of the leaves. A shiver ran through the tree, and the wind sent forth a blast that would have knocked me off had I not clung to the branch with might and main. The tree swayed and strained. The small twigs snapped and fell about me in showers. The branches lashed about me. I felt the intermittent jarring that came now and then, as if something heavy had fallen and the shock had travelled up. It worked my suspense up to the highest point. I clung , trembling with joy to feel the earth under my feet once more. I had learned a new lesson -that nature "wages open war against her children, and under softest touch hides treacherous claws."

The European was angry to see an Indian sleeping on the berth. He threw away the slippers of Ashutosh through the window. The European then put off his coat and lay down on his berth. Ashutosh got up and did not find his slippers. He understood the fact. So he threw away the coat of the European through the window. Soon after the European got up and asked Ashutosh about his coat. Ashutosh replied boldly, "Your coat has gone to bring my pair of slippers."

///*PROPHET*\\\

*One day, as the Prophet Mohamed sat with his disciples, A poor old lady who had carefully saved some money to buy a basket of grapes as a gift for the Prophet came and sat next to the Prophet. The Prophet asked, "What is it that you have in your basket." The old woman took out a bunch of grapes and offered them to the Prophet . Everyone watched as the Prophet plucked a few grapes and began eating them . The old lady was delighted when Prophet then finished eating all the grapes that were in the basket.

The disciples were surprised at the strange and unusual behaviour of the Prophet. They had expected the Prophet to share the grapes with everyone. When the old lady left, they asked the Prophet why he had not done so.

The Prophet replied, "If I had distributed the grapes, I would have had to give her some as well, if she had eaten the grapes, she would have known that they were sour and would have felt sad. She had generourly spent her money in giving me this gift. I had to return the generosity of her act by receiving her gift without hurting her feelings."

*Generosity means giving wholeheartedly and lovingly. It also means never hurting another person. It means we are giving something important. It wasn't easy for the old woman to spend the money she had on a gift and it wasn't easy for the Prophet to eat all the sour grapes. We can be generous not just in the things we give but in our thoughts and feelings too.

We can be generous in our love or praise or recognition. Generosity is done quietly without expectation of return.
