Art Book and Aerial View Painting.

, ,

A friend retuned some books to me last week. One of the books was an art book: Change 20 Singapore Artists, A Decade Of Their Work. This book had been with my friends for the last 5 years.

This is a 240 page coffee-table edition featured 220 full colour plates and 21 colour portraits of the Singapore Artists. They are Teo Eng Seng, Ng Eng Teng, Thomas Yeo, Yeo Siak Goon, One Kim Seng, Ng Yak Whee, Wan Soon Kam, Prabhakara Jimmy Quek (myself), Teng Nee Cheong, Siew Hock Meng, Low Puay Hua, Leo Hee-Tong, Ghoo Keng Kwang, Lee Boon Wang, Kuan Soong, Lee Hock Moh, Tay Bak Koi, Tan Choh Tee, Foo Chee San and Ang Ah Tee.
(A photo of the art book printed with my paintings.)

This book was at that time an exciting volume documented the above mentioned 20 selected artists in Singapore, the book traced their development and it offered rare insight into their creative output of remarkable diversity of styles and media which was best represented the Singapore art scene in 1991.

I had a few good browses of the book since the day it was returned to me. The aerial view painting featured there reminded me of my aerial view paintings that I had painted late 80's and early 90's. Aerial View was one of the subject I loved to create at that time. (One of my Aerial View paintings titled Golden Land 1995 was collected by the Singapore Art Museum.)

I felt that I still love painting Aerial View in my heart. So without delay I worked on two small 8" x 8" empty canvases that I had. I enjoyed the play of colours that creating space and depth on the surface of the paintings. Below a photo of the paintings that I have painted this week.

Art Class and Painting Workshop, with Artist in Singapore

, , , ...

Quite often people ask me do I teach painting? I told them I don't and they would always ask me why don’t I teach? It seems like artist usually teach painting. So I told them I taught painting and drawing in the 90's and conducted art workshop for teachers at Metta School sometime ago. People would then tell me that it is good to teach, they encouraged me to teach and to share my artistic skills and experiences to the needed.

Recently, I have received few inquiries. I met a few who wishes to solve their painting problems. So I decided to make myself available few hours weekly for teaching painting, to share my painting experience and skills to those who wish to learn from me. Also, for those who like to paint for fun and to enjoy art making. I believe that it is good for those who appreciate art and those who understand to enhance life with art to learn painting from me.

So, I have worked out my Painting Courses and a website for that. This is a weekly private painting session/tuition at my working space. Started from first week of April 2009, currently limited to 3 persons (adults) at each session. Courses available are:

1. Acrylic Painting Lessons - This course is for beginners. This could be for those who like to do acrylic painting for fun and to enjoy the process of art making.

Paintings by Singapore Artist

, , , ...

Three of my paintings had been acquired and installed at Singapore Embassidor Residence in Manila early this year. This is one of the ways promoting Singapore artist and his art works in other country by Singapore Government. Here, a photo of one of the 3 paintings, I took this photo when the painting was still with me.

Morning Meditation. Acrylic on canvas. 102 x 76 cm.
Coll: Ministry collection.

I painted this painting in year 2003 when I thought of working out a painting with Bodhi Tree, with a mood of calm, serenity and peaceful effects. I visited Bodhigaya in India, where there was a big Bodhi Tree. It was a serene and peaceful morning. People meditated arround the Bodhi Tree. People believe that the Buddha attained his enlightenment under the Bodhi Tree at this place. I though it would be a good idea to paint a painting that comes from this memory. I did a small sketch study before I started working on this painting. I hope to achieve a calm and peaceful effects with pictorial elements of tree, a silhouette of pagoda behind the tree, silhouettes of people meditating in this painting.
