New Painting - Going for Kathina Celebration

,

Here is my new painting. I am happy to sign off this painting this morning. I took two weeks to complete it. The monk on the left is Ven Piyananada, you could see his photo at my earlier post. I painted this painting to commenorate him. We used to see him in the last 7 years while he was in Singapore. He has returned to Sri Lanka, however I heard that he will be coming to Singapore for Vesak day celebration this year. May all be well and happy.

Vipassana Meditation Centre (Singapore) conducted its Kathina Robe Offering Ceremony at the Sri Lankaramaya Buddhist Temple on 8 Nov 2007. The chief religious advisor Sayadaw U Pandita has come to perform the Kathina Robe Offering Ceremony together with other venerable monks. You can see more photos that I have taken for VMC at VMC's Kathina photos web site. I have posted few selected photos at the photos album and a short video to share with you here too.

Sri Lankaramaya Buddhist Temple Kathina Ceremony 2007

, ,

My family and I were at the Sri Lankaramaya Buddhist Temple on Sunday for the Kathina Ceremony. This ceremony is held annually by Sri Lankaramaya at the end of the Vas (Rainy Retreat). During the Vas period, the bhikkhus remain at one place and devote themselves to spiritual and mental development. They also use this opportunity to teach the Dhamma to lay devotees. The monks who spent the Vas in a particular place are entitled to participate in a Kathina Ceremony in which they receive a gift of cloth from the lay devotees. This cloth is then bestowed on one of the members of the Sangha and as a group, they will make the cloth into a robe within the day itself. I have posted some photos at the photos album on Kathina Ceremony. The Kathina ceremony was held on Sunday 4 November 2007.
