Yesterday, I was very happy to see an original painting that it has left me for more than 11 years. This painting was painted in 1995 and very soon after then, it was acquired by a gallery and it was later sold to the present art lover and collector. I am happy to meet the collector too. I was told that the painting has been with them for more 11 years. They enjoy and love the painting very much. When I look at the the painting I found that it was very clean and as it was newly painted. They did not change my original frame too. They have taken good care of the painting that I appreciated that very much. I have an opportunity to take a photo of this painting and posted it in my website for record. Share this painting with you all. Sunkiss. 1995. Acrylic on canvas. 92 x 92 cm. Private collection. All Rights Reserved.
I have been looking high and low for three paintings that my customer inquired. The paintings were painted in 1996 to 1999, about 10 years ago. I thought I could easily find them, but it was not the case. At first I could not find two of them. Later I found out one more, because the actual size of the second painting was smaller than the size specification, it was my mistake. I still could not find the third painting. I knew that painting very well. I had a strong impression because of its strong colours and composition. I asked my self many times, Where? Where? Where? Where has it gone?
In the process of looking for the paintings, I found out few paintings that I had forgotten them if I did not see them. Jere is one of them. Most likely I painted it in 2005 or 2006. I hope you enjoy this painting.

This "Still Life" painting was painted by me in 1973. That was 34 years ago... quite a long time ago. The pianting has been displaying on the wall in my computer room for many years.
The painting is still in good conditions. I think it is because the painting was framed and there is not much dust falls on the surface of the painting, due to the design of the frame. I remembered I sent this painting to my art school friend for framing when he started his frame making business at home.
Still Life. 1973. Oil on canvas. 36 x 26 cm. By Jimmy Quek Prabhakara.
The painting was signed with a "73". That means I painted it in year 1973. It was one year after I completed my secondary education. In 1973 I went to learn art at the Nanyand Academy of Fine Arts. But I was not taught oil painting in Year 1 in the Art school. I could not remember whether I painted this painting before I went to the art school, or at that time I was in the art school. But I am sure that I did this painting privately at home as a practise of painting in oil. It is one of the very early study works. This painting has never been exhibited before.
I feel happy and proud when I see this painting. I feel that way not because it is a wonderful painting of great composition, but because this painting reminds me of my love for art when I was just a 17 years old boy. And this love for art has been with me since then till now. No one could imagine at that time that this boy could paint so many paintings and he has become an artist practising art full time.
I hope this painting will be in the Singapore National Art Museum permenent collection one day.
This is an oil painting of Self Portrait painted by me when I was about 18 years old. At that time I studied at Ngee Ann Technical College. I could see from the painting that I used palette knife for the painting and I also used brush to draw lines on the canvas. I took up some art lessons of oil painting from my secondary school art teacher in year 1972. I also learned from other art teachers at Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts in 1973. This is one of the early oil paintings that I practiced privately at home in 1974. I am glad that the painting still survived today. It was painted on a self-primed stretched canvas. The overall condition of the painting is still good. I could see that my passion for art was strong when I was young. My love for art has grown with me since then until today.

I have just visited the National Arts Council's website. There are many artistic events organized in Singapore indeed. The Golden Point Award 2007 Compeition Open for submission will be closed on 31 July. Noise Singapore 2007, offering fresh opportunities for youths to showcase their creativity through exciting competitions and exclusive apprenticeship opportunities with renowned professionals from the local creative scene.... Also, the Singapore Art Show 2007, it is a national visual arts platform dedicated to celebrating and presenting local visual arts and artists. I find that the art show website is also interesting.
