Once I have honed my sketching ability I want to be able to sketch this ornament of an angel we keep on our mantel at home. There is another. Will post Its pic soon

Have you tried one line drawing?
I had a book on it but can't remember the name of it for the life of me..
It encompasses using a soft pencil to, without stopping, sketching first the form (doesn't have to be remotely perfect) and sketching over and over till you'll be able to see a 3D ish picture.
It loosens up your hand and when you've mastered it some pretty cool renditions come out.
But I guess its a 'type' of sketch not everyone would be interested in.
