Brain exercise!!

Welcome! Ole! Guten Tag!
Here's my thought...

By now you may have guessed that I love to learn. When I came across the following, thanks Zoe, how could I resist. I thought of you, right away and wanted to share it.

This is a quiz for people who know everything !!! I found out in a hurry that I didn't. These are not trick questions. They are straight questions with straight answers. No cheating! If you get the answer wrong, you'll probably remember it even longer. Use the information at a party to impress you friends with your knowledge. That could be another post. Useless Factoids... should I do that one next? In the mean time, no grades are given for your answers, although you might want to come back later and see how many of the answers you remember.
This is just for fun!

1. Name the one sport in which neither the spectators nor the participants know the score or the leader until the contest ends.

2. What famous North American landmark is constantly moving backward ???

3. Of all vegetables, only two can live to produce on their own for several growing seasons. All other vegetables must be replanted every year. What are the only two perennial vegetables ???

4. What fruit has its seeds on the outside ???

5. In many liquor stores, you can buy pear brandy, with a real pear inside the bottle. The pear is whole and ripe, and the bottle is genuine; it hasn't been cut in any way. How did the pear get inside the bottle ???

6. Only three words in standard English begin with the letters 'dw' and they are all common words. Name two of them.

7. There are 14 punctuation marks in English grammar. Can you name at least half of them ??? (ah, come on, no looking at your keyboard)

8. Name the only vegetable or fruit that is never sold frozen, canned, processed, cooked, or in any other form except fresh.

9. Name 6 or more things that you can wear on your feet beginning with the letter 'S'.

Answers To Quiz:

1. The one sport in which neither the spectators nor the participants know the score or the leader until the contest ends. Boxing

2. North American landmark constantly moving backwards. Niagara Falls (The rim is worn down about two and a half feet each year because of the millions of gallons of water that rush over it every minute.)

3. Only two vegetables that can live to produce on their own for several growing seasons ... Asparagus and Rhubarb.

4. The fruit with its seeds on the outside ... Strawberry.

5. How did the pear get inside the brandy bottle ??? It grew inside the bottle. (The bottles are placed over pear=2 0buds when they are small, and are wired in place on the tree. The bottle is left in place for the entire growing season. When the pears are ripe, they are snipped off at the stems.)

6. Three English words beginning with dw. dwarf, dwell and dwindle.

7. Fourteen punctuation marks in English grammar . . Period, comma, colon, semicolon, dash, hyphen, apostrophe, question mark, exclamation point, quotation marks, brackets, parenthesis, braces, and ellipses.

8. The only vegetable or fruit never sold frozen, canned, processed, cooked, or in any other form but fresh. Lettuce.

9. Six or more things you can wear on your feet beginning with 'S'. Shoes, socks, sandals, sneakers, slippers, skis, skates, snowshoes, stockings, stilts.

Please feel free to drag your friends by to check it out and compare your results to theirs, if you want to.

Pictured are of handmade bracelets from Beads I View by Pat found in my bracelet/anklet category pages. I love to make bracelets that are lightweight and fun to wear. The first is a Swarovski crystal bracelet/anklet in deep siam red and crystal ab beads on stretch material, the next is a hex style woven stretch bracelet using faceted shiny brown/bronze beads, and lastly one of my favorite spiral rope style beaded bracelets in a beautiful capri blue color.

Hey you guys in cars, watch out for the Bikes and Tricycles!

, , ,

I don't know if I have mentioned it before, but my preferred method of exercise is riding my 24", 3 speed Desoto tricycle around the lakes of the neighborhood that we live in. It's great because we have a lot of bike lanes. fortunately. I have been triking since last August on a regular basis. Though I've had my trike for about 7 years I've just rediscovered it as my form of regular exercise. I ride from 25 to 55 minutes on most days of the week and occasionally on the weekend. This is a great form of exercise for AZ because you can get out on almost every day of the year, even on rainy days (it doesn't rain all day long). I've always been an active person but hsve not stuck with any one form of excercise for very long. My bike is equipped with coaster and 1 hand break, rearview mirror, LOUD airbulb style horn, LED magnetic operated front and rear lights (visible even in the day time), an odometer with time, mph, distance traveled, total and trip, fastest mph on any trip and average speed, a front basket for going to get the mail, a rear large basket for taking my sales to the shipping store (we have 2 in the neighborhood), all of this and an orange flag on a pole behind my 'generous' sized seat (the trike's seat, that is!). Hard to miss seeing me, right?

Traffic is usually very respectful of my space and I am very respectful of theirs (they're bigger that me!). I stay in my lane, I use my hand signals, I set my ipod at a volume so that I can still hear what's going on around me, especially when a car is approaching from behind. When I'm at a crossing I go with the light. Most cars respect me although I've had to do a few panic stops when someone is not following the rules, really the laws, or just not paying attention.

For instance, this morning when I was out at 6:30 am on my ride and I was waiting at my usual light to cross over the 4 lanes to continue, I had a close call with a car. I was on the sidewalk when the pedestrian light turned white that told me I could cross. The car on my left suddenly decided that it was her turn to go and pulled right in front of me to make a right hand turn. I was shocked! I just yelled. Hey! Her window was slightly open on the passenger side and I could see that she was reaching across to her dashboard for something, maybe her radio, and was not paying attention. What a dummy! No, I didn't give her any gestures of "cheer" with my finger or fingers, but I sure wanted to give her something, a rap along side the head, maybe?

Yes, I continued my ride, got 50 minuits clocked in for today. I was watching, and I will continue to ride my trike for fun and errands and especially exercise! But please! Please! Please! Watch out for the Bikes and Tricycles! The life you save may be my own. And for the woman with the dark short hair in the dark green suv, watch out, I'll be watching for you!
