GOP-diculous

, , , , , , , , , ,

Let me begin by saying that this blog does NOT mean I am voting for Obama (far from it--I have my own issues with him). Nor will I vote for McCain. My issue here is with the Republican Party census document which I received in the mail yesterday.

The questionnaire covers the usual issues:
1. Homeland Security
2. Economic Issues
3. Domestic Issues
4. Social Issues
5. Defense Issues and
6. Republican Party

The third question under the "Republican Party" heading is this:
"Will you join the Republican National Committee by making a contribution today?"

Here are my choices for a response:
1. Yes, I support the RNC and am enclosing my most generous contribution of (fill in the blank).
2. Yes, I support the RNC, but I am unable to participate at this time. However, I have enclosed $11 to cover the cost of tabulating my survey.
3. No, I favor electing liberal Democrats over the next ten years.

Now, I consider myself a Libertarian leaning Republican, so I went ahead and filled out the survey. When I got to the last section, however, I was angry. I was angry because I had filled out that whole stinking survey only to find that I either had to 1. send money, 2. send money to even have my survey TABULATED, or 3. pledge my allegience to the Democratic Party! How about NONE OF THE ABOVE?!?!?! The truth is, I am not happy with the individuals currently in office who call themselves Republicans. I am not happy with the Republican Party's current Presidential nominee. I am not happy with the stance that the Republican Party is taking with regards to our foreign policy, and I am not happy with the standstill our Party has come to with regards to the economy. With that said, I wholeheartedly disagree with MOST of the Democratic stances as well.

I refuse to pick the lesser of two evils. I think the Republican Party is scared to see how many of their members are fed up, so they choose to leave out the "None of the above" answer. I am tempted to attach a letter of concern and return my survey, but I'm guessing if no money is included, no one would bother to read it, so I won't waste my time. I am curious to find out if the DNC sends out similar surveys? Let me know if you've seen one! For now, I'll continue my search for a candidate that will be on the ballot who deserves my vote.

How about you just pencil in your choice with a brief explanation and a IOU stating when they get back on track you will pledge your $11.00.

Good one, Ripp--I might do that...I just might :D

Yes, please send it back with your letter. If it gets trashed, you haven't lost anything. But if it gets read, there's potential for gain, however small it is.

My advice to you Unggulkada, is do your research, and tell your friends to do the same. Obama's popularity is certainly not based on his flip-flopping (amateur) political career nor his ability to actually LEAD a whole country based on his time in political office. His popularity spawns from his charismatic, young, actor-like presence. People see him and they see 'change,' however, the change they see is merely a fresh face and a different color--not anything by which a vote should be determined.

i encourage you all to learn the truth at http://www.infowars.com or even better google search "zeitgeist" and watch the 2hr movie. most people running your country are all the same. you think really have a choice? only when you choose to seek the truth and practice it.

love to all.

to my readers: while infowars (as mentioned in the previous comment) might be a good place to START, i do not support alex jones in any way. to me, his followers are just that--followers of alex's gospel, and alex is getting out of hand. just my opinion, but i didn't want to give an endorsement to a site that i don't believe is helping the truth movement. the only real path to truth is doing your own research.

I agree with you completely, this is NOT Reagan's GOP. I tend to judge an issue by the facts, not party lines. Anymore it is about the money not the platform. However I am slightly conservative and feel McCain will be in the White House. Choosing Governor Palin was pure genius.

pauliticalmind 10. September 2008, 12:32

I agree maddy...I'm liking Palin, and wish the ticket were the other way around. I truly think she'll keep McCain in line (fingers crossed). Barack is so bad in so many ways--I don't understand why people can't see this!

Brian 10. September 2008, 18:05

Psst... they have liberal blinders on, just like horses do.

PM, I respectfully disagree with you on the Palin pick. To me, Mcain sold himself out (well what was left of him anyway) to the religious right (whom I have a big problem with) with this pick. In one sense, I can understand why he did it. This shot at the presidency is his last and he's going all out, but it will cost him with the independents whom he also needs.

While Palin is a good speaker, I found her convention speech lacking on substance. I don't get a re-assuring feeling with her if something were to happen with McCain (should he get elected).

I would have preferred McCain to go with either Lieberman or Ridge.

This election is a frustrating one. It would have been nice to have a candidate who was fiscally conservative, had a clue on foreign policy, wanted smaller government, stay out of people's private lives, and would follow the constitution. Instead we have ended up with Tweedledee and Tweedledumb as the two choices (the third party candidates don't impress me either).

I agree, Both Obama 0and Mccain suck. Their both on opposite sides and both extreme. Mccain just picked the biggest bible pusher for his running mate. Not that im downing religion, i just dont want to have other peoples morals shoved down my throat. On the other hand Obama wants way bigger gov, which i think isnt neccesary. The only issue i would like to have gov run is health care(I know its hippocritical but if other developed countries have it and spend way less per capita on healthcare, WTF....) Anyone know of any good third party candidates because at this point i feel that Third parties are the only option. Albeit they probably wont win many votes i cannot and will not vote for the lesser of to evils. Anyone with third party candidates send me message, Im really interested. Thanks.....

Wow. I won't hang around long when I feel I'm so far away from people with whom I share opinions - except I'm not impressed with either of them myself. It rather slays me you think Obama extreme. I think he is too - but for wildly different reasons, I expect.
I suggest you check things out again because he is for continuing the war and giving Israel warmaking equipment ( yeah. I know they say it's 'defensive'. It's likely 'defensive' to shell Somalia, bomb Iraq and Afghanistan, etc. too.
I hate mealy-mouthing that won't even flat call things as they are : it's the freakin' Department of War already. )
Of course, since about 80% of Americans think losing troops to further enrich the super-rich a rip-off, maybe that shit about 'Supporting the Troops' could boomerang on those who waste and neglect them after jacking John Q. Public around buying the services of mercenaries and equipping the military with crap more often than not.
