Christmas On the Rocks

, , , ,

In case some of you aren't cold enough already, I thought I'd post some pictures from around the yard after our little ice storm a few days ago. Please forgive the shaky camera--it's -3 degrees here this morning, and it was sleeting on me when I took the pics--sorry! Everything is still heavy with icicles, and many are without power. I'll consider myself lucky to be warm and without reason to venture out

Those are gorgeous pictures!

pauliticalmind 22. December 2008, 15:27

Thank you--my hair had icicles in it when I was finished, and a branch of my pine tree fell as I was taking a picture of it :frown: Can't believe how cold it is!

dragon_harrower 22. December 2008, 15:35

That's pretty flipping cold. It's slightly warmer here, but thankfully it's not sleeting.

dragon_harrower 22. December 2008, 15:37

Is that brownish thing in the first picture a squirrel? Is it still alive?

pauliticalmind 22. December 2008, 15:43

Yup, that's a squirrel alright. We have the fattest squirrels! (Probably b/c they steal all the bird food) :irked: And yes, he's still alive (no thanks to my dog) :D

dragon_harrower 22. December 2008, 15:47

I wasn't sure if he was still among the living the way he was hang off that branch.

We drove thought Indiana and into Kentucky where some of that ice storm was. Looks great in pictures etc... but it sucks when you have to live with some of the damage etc... Very nice pictures by the way...

Great pictures, that is the closest I wish to be to ice and snow. It was a chilly 45 at Disney last night.

conservativeminority 23. December 2008, 20:42

Sunday morning in Lansdale, PA (about 15 miles Northwest of Philadelphia), I was iced in. All the steps, the deck, the sidewalk and the streets and roads were all iced up. Trying to take a couple of steps out of my home was treacherous.

Your photos capture what my neighborhood looked like on Sunday morning. It has warmed up some, but it is still below freezing. Christmas Eve and Christmas day are supposed to be in the 40's. That will be nice and warm in comparison to this past Sunday and to your 3 degrees.

pauliticalmind 24. December 2008, 14:40

@ripp: i agree, it sucks when you have to drive in it--not so much my driving i'm worried about, but everyone else's

@maddy: chilly 45 :D! i could use some of that about now!

@cm: thanks for stopping by. i hope you and your family have a merry christmas (and a warmer one)!

EricC 24. December 2008, 14:51

Great pics. I can empathize with the weather. We've been getting the same stuff in East Central Illinois. Have a safe and Merry Christmas

pauliticalmind 24. December 2008, 17:43

Thanks Eric, Merry Christmas to you, too! It's supposed to warm up a bit

conservativeminority 25. December 2008, 03:28

Thank you pauliticalmind,

And here's for you, Pauliticalmind and your family having a merry and blessed Christmas and have joyous and blessed New Year.

ripp2002 25. December 2008, 17:28

Homer: Doh! I would worry about your driving but that is just me

I really like the shots of the iced pine(?) needles. Thanks for braving the freezing cold and sharing the photos. Absolutely evocative -- especially for someone in a warm climate.

pbuydid 12. January 2009, 13:56

It's wonderful. We never see that kind of figures with eyes here. Not enough cold. How is winter lived there? It's funny?
Best wishes!

pauliticalmind 12. January 2009, 14:09

@tin: yes pine needles. no problem braving the cold--after 28 years, i'm used to it.

@pbuydid: winter here is pretty unpredictable. can be mild w/ no snow, and the next day we'll have a big snowstorm. i'm finding i liked the snowstorms better when i was a kid! :D

pbuydid 12. January 2009, 14:54

I see. Anyway, the shapes in the ice are beautiful. I don't like cold days too much... but I'd like to have some days of snow. As long as I remember, it snowed just one time here, but it was not a "real" snowstorm. It covered just a few cmt. It was more like ice.
