Anoche fue la fiesta de re-inauguración de la plaza Artigas, en Piriápolis, y se realizó una fiesta excelente, con importantes invitados y artistas.
Me dí la oportunidad de asistir con mi familia, y con mis padres, y disfrutar del espectáculo. Nunca había tenido la oportunidad de ver en vivo a algunos de los artistas que participaron: Jorge Nasser con sus milongas (en vivo es excelente), Larbanois Carrero, que hicieron maravillas con sus guitarras y su voz a pleno folkclore nacional y la murga Agarrate Catalina a pleno, impresionante. Aunque no soy muy interesado en murgas, me descostillé de la risa con esta, y me están haciendo replantear mi gusto por sus espectáculos.
Les dejo algunas fotos y un par de canciones de Larbanois Carrero, dos de las que cantaron anoche, pero en esta oportunidad les dejo versiones de estudio.
Hoy he estado leyendo sobre el gran problema del agua. Según la información, la mayoría de los lagos importantes en tamaño del mundo, están desapareciendo. Gente tiene que caminar distancias enormes para conseguir unos pocos litros, y muchas veces, de mala calidad.
Pensaba que en Uruguay disfrutamos de agua corriente potable en todo el territorio. Es simplemente abrir un grifo y beber (un poco complicado en verano, por la temperatura). SIn embargo, tener esa disponibilidad a veces nos hace no darnos cuenta de la gravedad de la situación. Cada vez que dejamos abierto el grifo mientras enjuagamos o lavamos la vajilla, o nos lavamos la cara o los dientes, estamos desperdiciando montones de agua que muchos no tienen el lujo de poseer. No me gusta ser extremista, ni sensacionalista, ni extremado en las cosas que hago y digo, pero simplemente me doy cuenta cada día que pasa de la realidad de esto. Y yo mismo soy conciente que desperdicio mucha agua por día.
Sin embargo, desde hace un tiempo, incluso nuestro país, que tiene una red fluvial muy importante, cuyos ríos cruzan gran parte del territorio, tanto que usamos principalmente las corrientes de los ríos para generar electricidad, ha sentido los efectos de la falta de agua. Este fin de semana la falta de lluvias junto al intenso calor, provocó el primer gran incendio en la costa, relativamente cerca de mi ciudad. Por unos tres días los bomberos y ejército tuvieron que combatir el fuego. Las represas están agotando su nivel óptimo de agua y se prevee que vaya a haber restricciones de energía si no llueve pronto. La tierra se ve muy seca, las plantaciones, me contaba un amigo que tiene campo cerca de Colonia, se están arruinando. Todo esto en un país como el nuestro, que el agua es uno de nuestros principales "bienes" naturales. Para complicar las cosas, se pronostica que no habrá lluvias importantes sino hasta enero.
Cuando uno se encara directamente a una situación extrema, o simplemente directa, es cuando se da cuenta de la gravedad de un asunto. En este caso es global y da pena que estemos arriesgando todos nuestros recursos.
----- Algunos hechos: - El lago Chad, en Africa era un punto de referencia para los astronautas, desde el espacio. En la actualidad, debido a prácticas insistentes de riego, su superficie se ha reducido un 95%. - De toda el agua del planeta (más del 70%), solo el 2.5% es dulce (apta para consumo). De este 2.5% el 99% se encuentra en glaciares y aguas subterráneas, lo que nos deja un 1% disponible para consumo mundial, tanto para seres humanos como todos los demás seres vivos.

Water
Today I've been reading about the great problem of the water. According to the information, most of the important lakes in size of the world, are disappearing. People have to walk enormous distances to get some few liters, and many times, of bad quality.
I thought that in Uruguay we enjoy drinkable water in the whole territory. It is simply to turn on a faucet and to drink (a little complicated in summer, for the temperature). But, to have that available abundance sometimes makes us forget the graveness of the status. Every time that we leave open the faucet while we rinse or we wash the dish, or we wash ourselves the face or the teeth, we are wasting heaps of water that many don't have the luxury of possessing. I don't like to be extremist, neither sensationalist, neither carried to an extreme in the things that I do and I say, but I simply realize every day that passes the reality of this situation. And myself is conscient that I waste a lot of water per day.
However, for a time, even our country that has a very important fluvial network whose rivers cross great part of the territory, so we use mainly the currents of the rivers to generate electricity, it has felt the effects of the lack of water. This weekend the lack of rains plus to the intense heat, provoked the first great fire in the coast, relatively near from my city. For about three days the firemen and the army had to combat the fire. The earth is very dry, the plantations, I have a friend that has fields near Colonia, and he told me that their pantations are ruining. All this in a country like ours that the water is one of our natural main "goods." To complicate the things, it is predicted that there won't be important rains but until January.
When one is faced directly to an extreme, or simply direct status, it is when we realize the graveness of a situation. In this case it is global and makes me feel pain when I see we are putting at risk all our resources.

Tengo que contar que Windows no es exactamente mi sistema operativo favorito. Sirve para muchas cosas, sí. Es bonito, sí, pero no tiene todo lo que me puede convencer de un sistema seguro y estable.
Quienes me conocen, saben de mi gusto por Linux, y por sistemas alternativos en general. Nunca pude probar un Mac, aunque un tío mío de Córdoba me dice que es lo mejor que puedo usar. No sé, porque desde que le mostré Linux en casa, se llevó algunas copias, y le encantó.
Pero ¿Qué hay de todo el tiempo antes de que Windows y sus ventanitas vinieran a invadir nuestras PCs? Si, si, Machintosh fue en realidad pionero en eso de llevar la vanguardia en sistemas gráficos. Pero más atrás todavía.
Hace poco encontré una colección bastante interesante de software para D.O.S. en internet, por lo que me descargué una copia de FreeDOS y la instalé en mi máquina virtual VMWare. No saben cómo me vinieron a la memoria los años en los que estudiaba ese sistema! Estoy seguro que con este último comentario más de uno va a decir que tengo más años que la IBM y que seguramente sea bastante arcaico. Bueno, no es para tanto, simplemente, es lindo recordar, y sí, admito que llegué a estudiar DOS cuando era, ejem, un muchacho.
Por un lado pude encontrarme una vez más con el viejo y querido WordStar (dá un poco de lástima y risa cuando te has acostumbrado a MS Office o Open Office. Norton Commander, VisiCalc (bueno, este no lo estudié nunca, pero saber que es el viejo antecesor de Excel, y ver lo limitado que era me hizo analizarlo).
En mis últimas clases este año, en informática de primero, les grabé algunas sesiones de DOS para llevarles a los muchachos y mostrarles lo privilegiados que son de tener sistemas tán fáciles de usar e intuitivos. Lo que les pareció muy difícil de asimilar fue enfrentarse a un sistema en el que no existiera un escritorio, que todo se ordenara mediante comandos y hubiera que escribir todo. Para mi fue un deleite, para ellos una historia de terror, jaja.
Pero bueno, aquí les dejo algunas imágenes de lo que estuve probando.
Maldonado is a departament of Uruguay, the one I live now (not the one where I was born). I want to tell about it, the same way I did with the post of Uruguay.

De los 19 departamentos del Uruguay, Maldonado es uno de los que tiene costas en parte sobre el Río de la plata y en parte sobre el océano Atlántico. Posee un paisaje serrano, con interesantes cadenas de elevaciones que lo cruzan de norte a sur. Se destaca el cerro Catedral. Muchas de estas elevaciones marcan el paisaje de balnearios del departamento. Pero no todo es serranía en el departamento. Hay un gran abanico de opciones para turistas de todos los gustos. Sus playas son de las que más gente atrae todos los veranos. Paseos al aire libre y gran cantidad de espectáculos se realizan en sus principales ciudades, como Punta del Este (referente en América latina) y Piriápolis. Todo esto, junto al marco histórico del lugar, punto estratégico en viejas luchas, la amabilidad de la gente que lo habita, y los paisajes interminables, conforman un departamento lleno de atractivos para visitar en el Uruguay.
About Maldonado (eng) Of the 19 departments of Uruguay, Maldonado is one of those that has costs partly on the River Plate and partly on the Atlantic ocean. It possesses a "mountain" landscape, with interesting chains of elevations that cross it from north to south (There are not really mountains in Uruguay, just elevations that never raise more than 550mts). One of the more important is the Cathedral hill. Many of these elevations mark the landscape of important cities of the department. But not everything is elevations in the department. There is a great list of options for all kind of tourists. Beaches are of those that more people attract every summer. Tours outdoors and great quantity of shows are carried out in its main cities, as Punta del Este (a reference in Latin America) and Piriápolis. All this, plus to the historical frame of the place, strategic point in old fights, people's kindness that inhabits it, and the endless landscapes, conform a department fulled with attractiveness to visit in Uruguay.

One of the things I like most, is to know about places, countries and people. I found that I never told about Uruguay, the country where I live, so, here I go...
Uruguay: como somos. De donde venimos.
Uruguay está ubicado en Sudamérica, entre Argentina y Brasil. Limita también con el Río de la Plata y el océano Atlántico al sur.
El nombre oficial del país es República Oriental del Uruguay, posée un sistema de gobierno democrático-presidencialista, su lenguaje oficial es el español y aunque predomina la religión católica, no posee religión oficial.
Posee uno de los climas más templados del continente: la media en verano es de 22ºC y 13 ºC en invierno.
La mayoría de los habitantes son descendientes de europeos: españoles, italianos como predominantes, pero también de muchas colectividades rusas, francesas, suiza, alemania; y de otros continentes, como el de Africa.
La gente uruguaya tiende a ser bastante consevadora, generalmente hospitalaria y amable. Prueba de ello es el trato que reciben aun hoy las personas que vienen de otros paises, y que lo han hecho en el pasado, que se han establecido en el territorio como parte de nuestra gente, sin problemas. Uruguay conserva ese espíritu, y esto lo expone como un país abierto a todos quienes nos visitan.
El turismo es una actividad fomentada en todo el territorio del país, a pesar de no ser la actividad tradicional (basada en agricultura y servicios). Se fomenta mucho el turismo interno, y la parte sur del país es destino de muchos turistas argentinos, brasileños, europeos y norteamericanos.

Uruguay: how we are. where we come from.
Uruguay is located in South America, between Argentina and Brazil. Limits also with the River Plate and the Atlantic ocean to the south.
The official name of the country is Oriental Republic of Uruguay, it has a democratic-presidential government's system , its official language is Spanish and although the Catholic religion prevails, the country doesn't possess official religion.
Has one of the most temperate climates in the continent: the average in summer is of 22ºC and 13 ºC in winter.
Most of the inhabitants are descending of European: Spaniards, Italian as predominant, but also of many Russian, French, German, Swiss collectives ; and of other continents, as Africa.
Uruguayan people spread to be enough conservative, generally kind. It's a prove of it the treatment that receive today people that come from other countries, and that they have come in the past, people who have settled down in the territory like our people's part, without problems. Uruguay conserves that spirit, and this exposes it as a country open to all who visit us.
The tourism is an activity fomented in the whole territory of the country, in spite of not being the traditional (based on agriculture and services) activity. The internal tourism is fomented too much, and the south part of the country is destination of many Argentinean, Brazilian, European and North American tourists' every year.
Maybe you asked sometimes what is the meaning of life. To those often asked questions you'll may be add another: Can we look forward to anything more than simply living out a brief span of 70 or 80 years, and then dying?
Perhaps at no other time do we raise such questions as intensely as when we sense how brief our life span really is. Of course, we do not need to be going through a life-threatening crisis to ask why we are here. Disillusionment can trigger the questions as well. And some ask it as they reflect on their life...
I was wondering some days ago, how can we understand the complex of life of every person, with all it involves: art, conceptions of the world, friendship, feelings, and more, and just to experience everything that in a little span of life. Why we admire the richness of the spirit of a friend and then it all disappears?
I think life is more than we expect....
PS: After writing this, some days ago, I noticed that my neighbours had an accident in their car that could cost their life. She told to me and my wife when we visited them, that may be is time to think about her life, and things that have real meaning. I remembered this words and wanted to post them here.
El 8 y 9 de este mes se realizó la etapa de automovilismo en Piriápolis. Se corrieron las fórmulas Chevrolet, VEE, Superescarabajo, Turismo libre y Super-turismo, además de una interesante exibición de autos clásicos, pertenecientes al CUAS (Club Uruguayo de Autos Sport).
La jornada del domingo, día en que se realizaron las carreras, la emoción y el vértigo alimentaron la adrenalina de los miles y miles de visitantes que llegaron a la ciudad, como todos los años.
El circuito callejero de la ciudad de Piriápolis es uno de los eventos que más gente reúne en un mismo fin de semana. Está trazado en pleno centro de la ciudad, y su recta principal recorre la rambla, junto al mar, pasando frente al Hotel Argentino, uno de los símbolos de Piriápolis.
Este domingo presencié las carreras desde el inicio. Si bien el día comenzó amenazador, tormentoso, a media mañana se despejó el cielo y nos acompañó un sol radiante. Esto hizo del circuito un factor adicional para disfrutarlo. Pero realmente, lo que alimentó la emoción fue la cantidad de gente que nos acompañaba, junto a la impresionante cantidad de autos que se sumaron a las carreras.
El circuito de Piriápolis se considera de los más emocionantes del país.
Races at Piriapolis. On 8 and 9 of this month was the stage of car races in Piriápolis. Formulas Chevrolet, VEE, Superescarabajo, Tourism and Super-tourism ran, in addition to an interesting exhibition of classic cars, belonging to the CAUS (Uruguayan Sport Cars Club ).
This Sunday, the main day of the races, the excitement and adrenaline fueled the vertigo of the thousands and thousands of visitors who came to the city, like every year.
The street circuit of the city of Piriápolis is one of the events that most people joins at a weekend. The track is in the centre of the city and its main straight down the Rambla de los Argentinos, along the sea, passing in front of the Hotel Argentino, one of the symbols of Piriápolis.
This Sunday I was at the races from the start. While the day began threatening, stormy, at mid-morning the skies cleared up and accompanied us a radiant sun. This was an additional factor of the circuit to enjoy it. But really, what fueled the excitement was the amount of people who accompanied us, along with the impressive number of cars that joined the races.
The circuit of Piriápolis is considered the most exciting of the country.
I have to say I'm so glad to introduce new sites. Last month we launch Vivapiriapolis.com, a portal to my city's activities. Is based in Joomla, and still in development in some areas, but functional in information.
On the present month we will present a new site to offer web services, and I hope to finish my personal site -delayed from last 2 years, because different reasons.
The city is preparing itself to offer all the services of summertime, and it's a time when I have lot of work to do, luckily. That's why sometimes I'm away from here, and can't publish anything.
