I first saw this beautiful "teenage" blonde penguin in 1995, and again in 96 and once more in 2000. I took many pictures and also videos of her. She came to Cape Bird (Ross Island, Antarctica) and nested in almost exactly the same spot for 10 or 11 years. When I wasn't there my friends sent me pictures. She was a very friendly bird and would often seem to pose and show off for the camera. It was as if she knew and remembered me. She had one mate all her life and raised ?? little penguins. Now she's gone, but she probably lived 13 or 14 years, a ripe old age for a penguin that really stood out in a crowd. What a great experience to meet this strange bird at a spot on the map that seems like it came out of a dream.
