Life in Social Services

I work for a state agency that investigates abuse and neglect of children. While that might, at first take, sound like the most depressing job on the planet it can offer some real glimpses into just how messes up people can really be. On a daily basis I see situations that people in the gleaming towers of corporate life have no idea exists.
My hope of this particular blog is to allow those with a similar sense of humor or outlook to post the unbelievable stories and adventures that make the job worthwhile.
My first installment is called"LBK". LBK is a home in a poor section of this small town that is comprised of rag-tag group of people who are inter-related too many times. The LBK stands for "Little Bit of Kentucky". In front of LBK are a collection of cars in various stages of disassembly. The adult denizons of LBK receive some form of government assistance for disability, yet are capable enough to haul in junk cars and sell them for either scrap metal or parts.
The matriarch of LBK was a lady named "Flo". She died several years ago and the family has been somewhat adrift ever since. While Flo could not read or write, she did have some semblance of common sense. Since her death Ralph has taken over the spot of head-of-household. Ralph spent some time in jail for having sex with his 14 year-old neice the day of her mother's funeral. Ralph now has a child by a woman named "Mary" who is able to maneuever Ralph by trickery since she is able to read.
On any particular day a jar of dark-green fluid sits in the center of the kitchen table. Oftentimes the jar will be full to briming at the top. The jar is the tobacco spit of various people (male and female) who live or happen by the home.
to be continued....
