Woods

Small Wonder

This is from a few weeks ago when I visited my parents in Scotland. I went for a walk with Christine in the local woods not far from the house. It's my favourite place to go when I'm there and is such a contrast from where I live in Watford, close to the hustle and bustle of London. Springkell is quiet, like the whole area really. We didn't encounter anybody else on the walk on a lovely sunny day.

Bright Leaves

Here's one more as a bonus because I haven't posted much recently.

Tim Hetherington

As you may have heard in the news, Tim Hetherington a photojournalist, was killed while reporting in Libya. I won't go into the details, but for more information have a look at The Telegraph article.

It certainly put a downer on my day yesterday when I heard the news. He was killed along with fellow photographer Chris Hondros in Misrata, Libya. Tim sought to put a human face of conflicts and wars; to give a voice to those who had none. His work is technically and artistically excellent, at only 40 years old, a humbling reminder (to me at least, nearing my 30th) that our seemingly full lives can be snatched away in a heartbeat.

Rest in Peace Tim and my thoughts are with his and Chris' family.

God Rays

I caught this just now while getting the dry clothes in from outside. Whizzed in and grabbed my camera (well, grabbed it, changed lenses and put in a memory card, set white balance to daylight, aperture to f/8 and metered off the clouds) and fired off a few shots. Love seeing this.

Anyway, I've been organising my photos today in Windows Live Photo Gallery, which I'd ignored for a while, prefering Picasa. But the way you can add tags that actually embed in the file instead of separate database somewhere makes it much more suitable for me.

Second thing is realising Microsoft Money is free from Microsoft's website because it's no longer supported. Good enough for me so I have a better idea of how broke I am now!

Have a good week. I'm looking forward to the super bank holidays coming up :-)

Spring Back

I used to blog here many moons ago, but life got in the way, things got complicated so I didn't feel like I was writing anything useful anymore. Yesterday I checked in to see what had changed. A lot. I didn't think it was more than a year since I had last blogged, but it was. Allan (Ricewood) who the last time I had known of was ill. When I log on I see he had passed more than a year ago. My how time advances so swiftly and I feel a little guilty for abandoning the OC. Now though, I have a more stable job, the PhD I talked of many times before and more time to write and reflect.
