The American people did the right thing last night and the cynic in me didn't believe it could really happen, but Barack Obama won out in the end.
But with all the renewed hope and optimism, we must remember that he will inherit a whole raft of problems that cannot be solved in a short time. Most likely it will require two terms before he can be measured as a great President or not.
I hope in some small way it inspires people in the UK to vote for change when the chance comes around.
