Smoking

, ,

Friday 24 august 2007 was the last day I smoked a cigarette. Together with my wife, we decided to call it quits. So far no problems whatsoever... I used to smoke almost a pack a day, beginning with a few cigarettes a day from the time when I was 17 years old, slowly increasing over the years. I stopped for a few years in between, and there were times I only smoked in the weekends when I went out. The last several years I would smoke between 10 to 15 cigarettes a day.

I had some slight headaches on last saturday and sunday, directly related to my body wanting nicotine, but that has gone now. Best feeling of all is not being dependent anymore and thus feeling much more free  It has been much easier then I thought...it's still early though..

Congratulations to you both! I wish my son and daughter-in-law would do the same. When I quit, I "eased" out of it by following people around who were smoking. It helped a lot and I'm so very glad I did it. That was 30 years ago.

Good for you. Maybe you should develop a new healthy habit to replace old one. Perhaps running or swimming. Otherwise you might replace cigerettes with something just as bad.

Congrats... hope you're continuing to do well! I'm still struggling to quit but am now down to 1 or 2 a day so hopefully I'll be off them soon.

Quite an achievement, you should be proud!

By misschristie, # 4. September 2007, 13:52:13

avatar
Thanks Miss C., actually it is really easy, I mean I don't feel it is any big achievement... Fortunately my other half has quit also, otherwise it would be very very difficult for me to stop I think...

You're from Glasgow, Celtic or Rangers? p: (Sorry if you don't like football)

By pkmink, # 4. September 2007, 13:57:01

avatar
I'm not really into football, but as I was raised a catholic I'm Celtic by default.

I find it difficult to stop smoking because I actually enjoy it. I realise the negative effect it'll have on my health though so I'm trying to quit before my habit gets any worse.

And although you don't think it's not an achievement it definitely is because many people struggly to quit! Well done!

By misschristie, # 4. September 2007, 13:59:23

Before I quit I thought it would be very difficult, I also enjoyed it a lot (and still would I think). Apart from health and my kids, the main reason for stopping is the feeling of not being dependent anymore. Which is f$%^$%^ng great! :D

and being raised a catholic as well, Í should be for Celtic as well then...

By pkmink, # 4. September 2007, 14:03:35

avatar
About 90% of my friends support Rangers and I don't mind sitting in the pub when the football's on, but it's not something I follow as in my area it's more of a religious thing than actually about the sport.

And yeah, I'd like to be able to get through a stressful situation without nicotine!

Congrats! Hope you both will succeed. I will keep my fingers crossed (if I really do that could decrease, if not eliminate, my smoking) o łał... zazdraszczam i poproszę o przepis  trzymacie się nadal?

By kania, # 5. September 2007, 10:35:57

avatar
Dziekuje!!! Tak, trzymamy się nadal bez problemu (dla mniej latwiej niz dla zonę...nie wiem czemu). Przepis...wiec jestem przekonany ze jest 100% psychiczne, przynajmiej nie ma silna reakcja tzw. "cold turkey" when I stopped radically. Teraz, juz po 12/13 dni, w ogole nie mam ochotę palic... ale, teraz trzymam kciuki (?) because I know I'm still not "there".... Witam do blogu, a propos

By pkmink, # 5. September 2007, 10:46:05

Thanks, I have to say initially I thought it was easy, but lately there were moments that I was eager for a smoke, for example when I went out with some friends for a couple of beers. :insane: :yuck:

By pkmink, # 17. September 2007, 13:10:41

avatar
Yeah, I just quit, too. It's rough being around others smoking. I was up to almost 2 packs a day. Went to the doc- she says I have COPD. Got the patch and quit. Coffee, and cigarettes.
I can get lightheaded just from being around someone smoking.
Anyway, good for you and your lady!

Hi Pat. Long time no speak  How's it going with the non-smoking? I gave up in about 1995 and it took me 2, maybe 3 months to get over it totally. Keep it up  Think of the money you're saving

Hello Nick  To be perfectly honest, I have cheated a few times, after about a month... (shame on me! :frown: ), although since 2 weeks I'm totally 'clean' again . Unfortunately my wife started again pretty soon after we stopped initially, which didn't help matters. She is however determined to quit... in any case, I just have to focus on myself..as you said, the money one saves... its impressive!

cheerio,
Pat

By pkmink, # 7. November 2007, 08:52:50

 Yeah I cheated too - although I have to say, only once. I had a panicky moment at work about 4 days before I got married....
