I request Opera community to come in support of Tibetans and post your comments and slogans!
The Chinese took over Tibet forcibly in 1962 war with India.Tibetans are ver peaceful people with budhist beliefs. They presently live in DHARMASHALA in India where they have been sheltered by India.Dalai Lama is their spiritual guru but the Chinese Hate him!
Tibetans in occupied Area trying to protest. This might be their last appeal as the Chinese might erase them soon.200 Tibetans were killed by Chinese militia recently.
His holiness Dalai Lama request the world community to be with his people using non violence as a tool!
Sarkozy(French President)A bold leader who will stand by Dalai Lama!
Richard Gere is very dear to tibetans and dalai Lama for his contribution which even included clashing with Chinese admistration and having his films banned in China.A true campaigner!
Useless Leaders!(Indian prime minister with American presidents)

I generally can't stand religion but about 12 years ago the Dalai Lama came to speak in St. Louis & I was lucky enough to get in to hear him. He believes in tolerance, open-mindedness, & has a great sense of humor.
I hope that the Chinese government realizes that they need to let go of Tibet. But China is such an economic force world-wide, that I am not sure pressure, even from major world leaders, will have an effect on them.

Tibetan Buddhism is not a religion as we western people know it honouring a god.
It stands for the growth of the individual, deep respect and compliance and humility.
It is based on wisdom of many years and lives and holds non-violence high.
It is a sheer disgrace and a blame for the western world to have tolerated this behavior of China, which began in the sixties with the arrival of general (then) Mao. Nowadays chinese couples are encouraged to move to Tibet and when they do they are allowed more than one child.
The tibetan people are treated as second rang people by the occupying chinese crowd. And for the sake of the mighty dollar, trade and vulgar profit this is tolerated.
A shame on you Mr Bush, a shame as well for the belgian monarchy who chose for tade in stead of truth and right. A shame to 99% of the western world.
I bet things would have been different should Tibet have oil that the chinese didn't want to trade with the western world.

There is a tibetan shopkeeper in Delhi's Tibet Market. He has over the years become a good friend.Recently his sister who lives in Chinese Tibet got arrested and he dosnt know her whereabouts. He is troubled and he told me so in a most dissapointed voice!I promised that at least we can do this much by a small movement on the opera community to make people aware of Tibet.Otherwise it all remains just a news for most of us!Thanks.
PS:I will print out these comments and show it to him!

"The so-called Czecho-Slovakia ceased to exist. In a single night a nation vanished that in reality had never been a nation." -Nazi propagandist Joseph Goebbels. Does it remind you of the Chinese government discussing Tibet? It should! Tibet is no more a part of China than France was a traditional part of Germany when the Nazis invaded it. The Chinese are counting our our ignorance to pass off their lies as truth.
And now, the Chinese are following Hitler's 'Mein Kampf,' which advised rulers to make big lies rather than little ones, as people don't expect such effrontery. Chinese propaganda is now accusing Buddhist monks of plotting suicide bombings!
Zhao Ziyang and Hu Yaobang were Chinese Communist party leaders who wanted freedom for all citizens of China-including the Tibetans, and the people who demonstrated in Tianenmen Square and who were killed or jailed for it. They were kicked out of their leadership roles by the hardliners, kept incommunicado, and placed under house arrest for the remainder of their lives.
I greatly admire the Tibetan demonstrators and the Han Chinese civil rights activists that the repressive dictatorship governing China has imprisoned and tortured. The Dalai Lama is, like Martin Luther King and Mahatma Gandhi, a spiritual leader who is both a pacifist and an passionate civil rights leader. Free Tibet! Boycott Olympic sponsors, and boycott Chinese goods!

so if i take your side of the river by force a thousand years ago, that is no excuse for invading your country again.
the dalai lama is right though, non-violence must be adhered to.
the games should have nothing to do with politics though.
plenty67 # 25. April 2008, 09:04
Yes games and politics should not be mixed!
