STICKY POST

First off, I'd like to say that the spelling errors on this Slog are not mistakes, thay are part of my plan to wrest the evolution of our language, a natural and important part of humanity's developement, from the machines. The more controll we give things like "Spell Checkers", the less controll humanity has over its own destiny. If that sentence ever falls into to the hands of someone who's into Philosophy they'll have a field day with it! They can bring the whole class, it'll be great! Unfortunatly, knowing my readership as I do, namly me, that is not likely to happen. Anywho, digression aside, I am attempting to keep a bit of the organic humanism in this Slog, that's why the spelling is so bad. It's not because I personally can't spell worth a bean (does spelling english make sense to anybody? At least I got to sit down early in the spelling bees, could be why I am so lazy in my old age.), I am using my phone, and it doesn't have a spelling checker (anyone from Opera listening?) at all. This is about taking the future of our race away from the machines, and putting it back in the hands of serendipity.

OK...to start with, here is the challenge for round one:
Cyberspace Open Round 1 Premise
Your PROTAGONIST is in a jam. He (or she) had been relying on deception in order to further his objective, but his ENEMY has figured out the ruse. Write the scene in which your protagonist’s LOVE INTEREST confronts him with this information acquired from the enemy – while in staging it in a tricky or dangerous situation.
Now, the entry I sent (I wrote three originally, and choose one to send):
spaceed.pdfAnd here is what the judge had to say:
Total Score--Calculated: [21+20+21+23]
Reviewer ID number: 200904
Structure Score: 21
Dialogue Score: 20
Style Score: 21
Originality Score: 23
Judge's Comments: For starters, there's no sound in space! Still, though,
we're drawn into the imaginative setting and unique characters - animal
superheroes. The deception angle feels a little 'tacked on' and the
dialogue feels a bit talky and backstory-heavy. The plot involving the
antagonist gets a little convoluted and while the final note is a
surprise, the story never really becomes believable enough. Good writing
overall but try to stage things a bit more to break up the dialogue
(though I know it's tough in space!). Good luck.
Now, some of the negative, backstory and the like, I feel is a bit unfair since the scene should fit into an underwritten movie that, as far as the contest goes, has already been written. But the other criticism is pretty right on. Now, the second drawback to having written three scenes...I should have sent the one with the Ninjas!

Although the short films are all coming along quitenicely, the large increase of distance, and the sudden decrease of ones and zeros, has slowed the process of post production down quite a bit. Of course, being back in the confortable surrounding of Prague (with glorious weather) and family (with a 18 month old) hasn't really added any energy to the campagn either, but that stuff is to be expected. With all the energy spread out so far, the Quest for World Domination has taken quite a downturn.
No, have thee no fear, the proejects are moving along, just not very quickly. What my editor and i could have easily accomplished in a few hourse in the editing bay (plus yummy bar-b-q a,d a few rounds of Croquet) now takes weeks and weeks of emails back and forth...what the Quest needs is a bit of a kick in the pants, and that begins at 6am tomorrow morning.
What is it, you may ask, that can bring the world into your grasp fuego, that has such a precise starting time?
A Script Writing Competition (inseert link here, cause that's one thing I can't really do well on the phone). It consists of three rounds. The first round you have an enitire weekend to write a 3 - 5 page scene for a film that, as far as we are concerned, is already being shot. Grace under pressure...which shrinks down to a day for the second round. 100 folks will make it to round two where the pressure is really on, only one day to fix the film!
Round 3 is where it gets really fun, you only get 90 mins to get the scene done, not much time at all (but I have experienced this exact situation (not as the writer, mind you) where the episode was being written pretty muich as they shot it...I don't suggest this...
It's not clear to me just now how many people make it to the 3rd round, but i think it's like 10 or so...or, should I say, myself plus 9?

So far the beer diet is coming along pretty well...ok, diet isn't the right word...program fits the bill much better.
Basically, in an attempt to shrink the gut, I have come up with a surefire way, provided you are a beer drinker.
It all stated when I was living in LA for a few months earlier this year. Driving and eating, with beers scattered throughout (not so much for the driving or course), My gut took this chance to assert itself as Part of My Life. MaK wasn't as thrilled by the new visitor.
I soon came to realize that the easiest one thing (this is on the intake end...of course lack of exercise, especially in LA, was a large factor as well) to bring under control to limit the guthold my stomach had on me, was beer.
Let's take that a step further...how to tie this in with the lack of exercise? Rewards and Work.
It all came down to "body." One beer = One bode (Czech for "Point"). Each week you get seven body, one point per day. Should you wish to earn more points (aka beers) you must work for them. One bode = 100 situps and 50 pushups.
The body are renewed every Monday. Now, while it is OK to carry over unused body, you cannot use the new body to pay off a debt. Anything in the minus column (and I have yet to finish the week in the plus!) has to be worked off. How much to party over the weekend? Well, what are you willing to do for it next week?
Fitcentrums also came into play. I have been going to a Rowing Class at Fitcentrum Lanna (www.lanna.cz). If I go once, I get one bode. If I go a second time, I get three more, meaning each class is worth two. This helps make sure you go regularly. If you go a third time in the week, you get the two points, straight up.
Now, roughly a month into the bastard, I think it's going pretty well. I don't have any actual proof since I didn't bother doing any measurements at the start. Like any fitness program, the Beer Body System takes discipline. It really is up to you, after all...

Please note: the subject is just a test of the letters that don't always work right off. something about the keyboard, takes some wiggling at first to get it going in the morning...
OK, question of the day: what do malted barley and red chili powder have in comon?
Before we get to the answer, I will go over just why it is we have these things. Well, the red chili is pretty obvious. I am originally from New Mexico, so things like red chili powder, green chili, quality salsa, and listerine often times find themsleves in my suitcase.
The malted barley, on the otherhand, is not so obvious. While my family is fond of homebrewing, the steps including the barley, malted or no, are usually skipped in favor of a tin of concentrated syrup, similar to molases in many ways. The barley was a mistake. We were trying to order sugar for the next batch of brew, and got mixed up. A difficult mistake, you might say. In English, yes. Barley and sugar are very different words. In Czech, not so much. The word for the malted barley is "slad," which is very similar to the word for "sweet." We made a mistake and got two giant bags of barley.
Homebrewing is temperature dependant. Since we live in an apartment, we don't have a lot of controll over the temperature (rediators with a 1-6 control knob), especially in the summer. Durring the winter, the East Wing is usually just about right for brewing, 20-22 degrees C. In the summer, with the sun high in the sky, shinging through the windows, the temperature is way too high. The barley has been sitting in a box for quite some time now.
Back to the question: what do these two very different things have in common? The Indian Meal Moth. It seems these little winged pests, or, more accurately their larve, are fans of both. One of our bags of barley had become a Moth Farm, and the red chili powder had webs and used coccoons in it. They acually had to chew through two plastic bags to get to the chili. Who woudl have know, red chili powder? Maybe they are New Mexician India Meal Moths.
There you have it. I suppose we could have used the barley to make an Indian Moth Pale Ale...

Hello! I am gad to say that the time gremlins have not destroyed my bluetooth keyboard as was originally thought! Yes, this is indeed good news for everybody since Time Gremlins are a nasty bunch once they get started, and it's best to keep them in the year 2037 where they belong. Thanks god for that.
In other news, there was an eclipse in the seas near china a while back, and it was pretty impressive. It seems the moon somehow got right in front of the sun! I know, right? Well, I was there, and I saw the whole thing happen, and I can attest that we had not (really) started drinking at that pointb It was pretty magical. I am currently trying to get a doco crew together for the next one, somewhere near tahiti...

Dang, when the cheap beers are eigh euro bucks...you know you are in the wrong part of town!
It's noot my fault, it was a trick, I didn't know what i was saying when those words slipped past my lazy lips.
no matter now, it is all part of a past that I have yet to find a way to alter. As they say in these parts, "Zut Alors!"
There are few of you who will remember (oddly few of us as well) the first time I found myself in this same situation, in Monte Carlo, drinking beers with all the wine (similarly priced) stuffing up stuffy noses, in damn near the same table. The table, tucked into a corner of the soon to be famous "Tip Top CaFe," a stonés throw away from the Casino Royle, the one they didn't use in the recent addition to the Bond saga, and a prime place to catch a good wiff of the cars as they drive by in the Grand Prix.
Never been here for that. Bet the beers are even more expensive...

Got an intresting call today, it now it seem sI am going to Belgrade...followed by Milano and then Monaco. I'll be working for a company called Zepter, and it isn't the first time they have called me last minute to help do a show.
The problem with it this time is that it is right before we were planning to shoot our short film, and now we will have to push that a couple of weeks later. Shouldn't matter, really, might even be better.
For example, we might be able to get a red camera for a better price. And it will be easier to organize the extras. The hard part will be that we probably have to shoot it a day after I get back. Now, all of a sudden, I will not be there for most of the preproduction. Of course, a large part of that has already been done, and with the wonder of email, I can still keep an eye on what the kids are up to.
