Double-faced friend.

Where are they who ate from my hand?
What is happening I cannot yet understand.
When I was overflowing with raw cash,
When everyone's smiles competed at me to flash,
When I would pay off your owed house rents
Knowing that you would not even afford tents,
When you, even at midnight bang at my door
Begging for a meal even if it's become sour.
Where are you, double-faced opportunity-friend?
When I went downhill the friendship came to an end.
You do not even glance at my door when you pass by.
I find it hard to forget your actions even though I try.
Somehow on myself I do lay the blame.
I ought to have treated you as the very same
As I treated my own needs and preferences,
But I rather loved you more despite your pretences.
The scriptures asks us to love our neighbours,
But not that we give them all the fruits of our labours.
Though we are to love them like our own souls
But not over-prefer them in our worldly roles.
I did not really love my own self enough
So I can now see why everyone's reaction is rough.
