Faster and more refined - Opera 10.60 alpha preview available!
By Joseph D. Lienjdlien. Monday, May 31, 2010 8:35:18 AM

Today a special preview of Opera is available that showcases an enhanced JavaScript engine, and some great UI improvements.
When we released Opera 10.50, we showed a tremendous increase in performance over previous versions of Opera, and made Opera the fastest browser on Earth. Our engineers have outdone themselves again, and Opera 10.60 shows a significant increase in Javascript performance over 10.50. This can be seen in benchmarks such as Peacekeeper (below).
You can see that there's an increase in performance here that is "no small potatoes"!
Also shown in Opera 10.60 are some great new enhancements to the user interface, such as:
- A better looking, wide-screen Speed Dial.
- Improved tab previews that blend smoothly into the user interface.
- A more visible Opera menu that makes it easier to find menu options.
- Custom icons in visual tabs for internal features.
To ensure that we get a quality release as soon as possible, Opera 10.5x for Linux will not be released as final, and instead all new features and enhancements will be available in version 10.60. These include the removal of Qt dependency, improved KDE and Gnome skinning, private browsing, and much more. Also, we are committing to keeping releases for Windows, Mac, and Linux in sync so that they are available at the same time.

By the way, It would be nice if there was a portable version of Opera 10.60 alpha, to avoid installing... I think it is not hard to do

Yes, you always could easily switch back and forth between the Opera Menu and the traditional menu bar. Just open the menu, and click "Show menu bar" to toggle between the layouts.

Everything good with Opera except the plugins
(1) Silverlight doesn't work and crashes the browser.
(2) QuickTime Video flicks a lot while playing the video.
For more info on Silverlight : See http://my.opera.com/community/forums/topic.dml?id=514191&t=1275599641&page=1#comment5717162

Wrong. Their claims are perfectly justifiable. It is you who are making bogus claims based on your own ignorance.

I have Opera 10.60 Alpha on Windows 7 x64 with Silverlight 4 installed. Opera doesn't detect the plugin I have to do manual file copy or registry tweak to make Silverlight loaded by Opera.
I don't have 32 bit windows to try there.
After doing all these, try visiting the site http://www.iis.net/media/experiencesmoothstreaming1080p Opera will simple crash.
