Tuesday, 22. September 2009, 18:03:11
All you Opera freaks out there..
this is the time to sit back and bask in the limelight of Opera's success during one of the biggest Knowledge carnival in the country..!!
Yes, of course , its 'graVITas' - Unleash Your Genius
that took place in VIT University (Sept 11-13), India (the university in which I study and promote Opera Software).
Well, as you can see .. the portal to our University is depicted in the pic below..
I should say that I 'm being very modest if I don't talk a few words about our varsity and this fest before getting on to the main topic..
Well, to start with .. VIT University has been ranked as the No.1 Private Engineering Institution in India
according to 'India Today' -2008..!
'graVITas' is considered to be the biggest tech-management fest in the country where the Six different schools in VIT come together to put up a great show ..
The 55 events during the fest anticipated a huge participation of 18,000 to 22,000 students from all over the country and also international delegates.
The pic below shows a representation of all the 6 different schools.. spanning..

Here you can see the 'Reception' area where all the registrations and inquiries are made..
The other end of the 'Reception'...
'graVITas' had its trump card with 'Microsoft'
being the major sponsor of the fest and numerous other IT giants such as IBM, Lenovo, hp ,Intel and so on being a part of it..
Of course, our Opera Software also had its mark into the fest as an event sponsor for 'Web Designing'
The posters really did catch the eyes of all the passers which wooed 'em to the Opera stall to know more about Opera and its products..!!
I, now take pride in speaking to you guys about the Opera stall which stood out as the most appealing of all the stalls that were put up during the fest..
You would certainly accept this fact once you see the following pics of the stall ... which required 3 hours of manpower to plan and stick all those posters ..!!
Seeing the above pic , some of you may be wondering why a couple of spaces have been left blank on the wall...well.. here it goes..
The Mystery Behind the Missing Posters!!
The pics that you see now were taken on day 2 of the three day fest.. At the end of day 1, we had many uncool guys (ie., Internet Explorer users
) who made their way to our stall.. some of 'em couldn't take their eyes off the catchy Opera posters that we had put up.. they even asked us for the Opera posters. We were helpless
, as we didn't have any extra posters with us at that time, but we assured 'em to provide posters if they could stop by the stall tomorrow.. as we could get it back from our hostels..
The next day, to our astonishment, we saw the exact posters as requested by those guys were missing from the stall..!!
.. guess that explains the mystery ..! but its still unconfirmed..
Opera Lovers.. Unite..!
The three day fest drew huge crowd to the Opera stall .. many of them were already using Opera and were happy with it...
whereas some drew a total blank when they heard the name 'Opera'..
For those who knew Opera .. we took the stand in explaining them about the newest features of Opera which many weren't aware of... and for those uncool guys who were just teleported to the wonderful world of Opera.. we gave a crash course on "How to be the coolest dude/chick by using Opera?"
and it did work..!!
Many students were keen on takin' the 'Web and Opera Interview" ..
and many did spare their valuable time in filling out the Campus crew feedback forms after seeing the 'Live Demo' of the Opera Desktop Web Browser and Opera Mini at our stall..!
Of course, as there were only two Opera Campus Crew members during the fest ( nishant and myself).. it became very tiresome and tedious for us to manage the stall as people started flooding in to know more about Opera and that too in a place like Vellore where the temperature can mount up to 42 degree C
but our constant passion to share and learn new things and to make more Opera ubiquitous kept us motivated and intrigued thru out the 3 day fest..
We didn't have an exact count of the number of people who made their visit to the stall ..
but I 'm pretty sure that we had at least 1000 people who stopped by to listen to our presentation and some hundreds also got from us 'Opera 10.00' and 'Opera Mini 4.2'..
( that include students and faculties !)
I've to say that many walked out of the stall literally enlightened ..
in a sense that they learned something NEW..
which distinguished them from their amigos..!
At the end of three days of the fest.. we, the campus crew felt elated as to 've achieved something great.. !
Lemme tell you guys.. there is nothing more amazing than learning, sharing & motivating your pals ..
it gives me immense pleasure as to 've grabbed such a fabulous opportunity provided by Opera .. and also being a part of Opera making the "Web a safer place to surf on..!"
