Recording Engineer / Producer

New Update

Whats up with everybody?

Havent been around much latly; I've been busy with work latly which is allways a plus. Still bangin out at least a couple beats a week though, dont worry...ya boy hasnt fallen off.

I have been busy up at work, recording with a really talented songwriter performing, producing & recording his own material. The genre, i can't really define...but its very well written alt/rock/etc that you should most deffinently check out at www.scottmichaelz.com - he is a great client to work with and has become an even better friend. Its great to be working in all kinds of genre's. He has been hiring only the most talented session musicians to work on his project.

As far as hiphop goes, i have been fully utilizing the resources available to me up where i work ( www.creativ.ca/studio ). I recently have had a session cellist (a professional cello player for you uneducated cats) in, to track some original cello scoring i did for several instrumentals. The results were fantastic. One of the tracks is for the upcoming gawdbless album (not to be confused with the mixtape being released very soon). I have also been working with: a pianist recording on our yamaha grand piano in the studio & also male + female r&b vocalists. Allways a pleasure...this is undoubtably next-level material.

Obviously i have to throw up something for ya'll to download, or else you are just coming here to read whats going on in my life...and thats not whats up.

Producers!!! Free Software Giveaway - Waves L3

Waves L3 Multimaximizer
With the L3 Peak Limiter, Waves has once again created an entirely new category of audio processor.

Like its predecessors, the acclaimed L1 and L2 limiters, the L3 is destined to become an indispensable tool for professional mixing and mastering by offering unprecedented control over multi-band peak limiting.

The key to the L3’s power is its patent-pending Peak Limiting Mixer™ (PLMixer™) engine. The L3 differs from conventional wide band and multi-band limiters in several ways:

Unlike wide band limiters, the L3 first uses linear phase crossover filters to divide the audio spectrum into five bands.
The PLMixer™ then uses psychoacoustic criteria to intelligently decide how much attenuation to apply to each band so that all available headroom is used. The result is that intermodulation is minimized and overall loudness is maximized, while brick-wall limiting is still maintained—all while retaining the simplicity of a single master threshold control.

Unlike traditional multi-band limiters, the PLMixer™ doesn’t require a wide band peak limiter to catch overshoots generated by individual band adjustments. Instead, the PLMixer™ automatically controls the gain relationship between the bands.

The L3's Priority control allows the user to control the relative limiting of each band. This unique control lets users adjust the tonal character of the L3 over a wide range, while maintaining brick-wall limiting.

The L3 allows a 12dB boost or cut in each band in addition to the limiting applied to each band. In effect, this feature functions exactly like a Linear Phase EQ placed before the limiting section of the L3, making the L3 an all-in-one final mastering tool.

The L3 features a linear phase crossover which doesn't introduce phase distortion between the frequency bands.
The crossover points are selectable by the user.

While the technology of the PLMixer™ allows the L3 to be extraordinarily transparent, additional controls allow it to emulate the color and character of vintage limiters. The Separation control, for example, adjusts the independence of each band; when set to 0, the bands do not react separately, and so the L3 functions—and sounds—like a wide band limiter. The Master Release alters the L3’s Adaptive Release Control (ARC), offering a Warm, Scaled, Aggressive, and Manual tonal options in addition to the standard ARC setting.

Rounding out the L3’s feature set is the acclaimed Waves dithering and noise shaping section, which delivers the highest perceived quality of sound after quantizing.

The L3 comes in two versions: the Multimaximizer™, which includes all of the features listed above, and the Ultramaximizer™ , which uses the same PLMixer™ but offers limited controls.
With its transparent operation, brick-wall limiting, extreme tonal range and dithering and noise shaping control, the L3 can function as a complete mastering processor.

Busy Day In The Studio

Logged 5 more hours today in the studio with Gawdbless mixing the Frontline Killers Mixtape (Vol. I). This project is a pleasure to work on. Weapons of choice right now, for mixing this project, are the Universal Audio's 1176 compressor, Fairchild Compressor, Neve EQ's, and the Waves Diamond Bundle along with the UAD power pack. This tape is a very sinister & dark, my favorite mood to work with. This is going to turn some heads....Watch out Now!

Blaq Poet - Bloody Mess (Produced By Alchemist)

New track by Blaq Poet produced by The Alchemist. Beat is grimey and flow is on point. Worth a download. Check it below:

Instrumentals

I have recently gone through my collection of instrumentals and sorted them into two classifications: "The New Collection" & "Archives". While the "archives" folder is full of old tracks, dating back to about 1999-2000.

"The New Collection" is my repitoir of what i consider up-to-date productions which i feel represent my abilities and style. Allthough there are instrumentals in here dating as far back as 2002, most of the beats from 2004 and on.

There is Currently 209 beats in this collection, with at least 300 more in the archives folder (anything i feel is not top notch gets deleted, or thrown in the archives folder). More beats are being added every week. If you are interested in purchasing instrumentals, i can find something to fit your needs, or create you something from scratch. If you need a co-sign, ask around in Brooklyn who brings that heat.

Current Projects

An update on what I am currently working on:

Gawdbless – Frontline Killers Mixtape Vol. I

The tape is sounding amazing. All tracks are completed recording with the exception of the intro. Mixing has begun but is not yet completed. Mastering is to come. There are some exceptional features on this tape, but in no one does it rely on anyone but ‘bless to keep it moving. The production is, for the most, very dark with a N.Y. vibe. As soon are you press play, the intro is going to set the mood and let you know exactly what time it is and how shit is going to go down. The tape is also going to feature guest production from The Legendary Zik & ThreeSixZero.
Gawdbless - Hiphopheads Freestyle

The Penitentiary – P.E.N. Mixtape

P.E.N. stands for Producers Everywhere Networking. This group was formed by Pottersfield founder St. Laz out of Brooklyn N.Y. It brings a group of talented producers around the world together for the cause of building working relationships with other artists and expanding their contact networks. I am featured on this tape on several tracks, including the street banger “Nothin’ To Play With” featuring Snyp Life, Jadakiss & G. Luger. This tape is going to have an eclectic vibe while still keeping things completely street. I’m real excited for this release.
G. Luger feat. Snyp Life & Jadakiss - Nuthin' To Play With
St. Laz – Solo Album

This yet-to-be-titled release is quickly coming together. Its surprising Laz finds to the time work on an album debut, in the midst of working with so many other artists on developing their projects, but its happening and is turning out correct. I’m not sure how the overall track listing stands, but I can tell you that we have already completed two joints that are very gully. Both joints, so far, are completely non-sampled, original Preme Diesel productions. Other producers working on this release are “The Legendary Zik” and “The Faculty”. More information to come.

Various Releases

I am working with a large number of artists from all around North America. Preme Diesel tracks are going to popping up on mixtapes all over the world. I’m doing what’s needed to get my brand of street cinematics heard. 2006 is a real big year for me…just wait.

Mixing & Mastering

I am also in the midst of mixing several projects for several artists. If you didn’t know, I work as a recording engineer in an upscale recording studio in Vancouver, Canada. The word has spread, and im being approached from artists all over the world to achiever that “certain sound” for their release.
