Twilight Movie Critique
Monday, 8. December 2008, 07:58:15

First of all, this poster was too much photoshopped. It would have been okay if that was what they really looked like in the film... apparently.. they didn't.
Okay, so the movie has been out (after months of excited waiting)... and my one word description of the film after watching it? SUCKISH! I was even embarrassed that I promoted the film in the beginning. The movie sucks big time! The production itself didn't have a big budget which became a factor why I dislike it. Some people who haven't read the book said that the movie was awesome... HELLO! READ THE DAMN BOOK AND RENEW YOUR DEFINITION OF AWESOME! Let me enumerate the reason'S' why I absolutely detest the movie.
- First of all, I detest the movie because it didn't give the book any justice AT ALL! I hate to think that a great book such as twilight turned into such a suckish movie.
- The casting. IT SUCKS BIG TIME! Well, I know that there can't be any person in this world who can protray 'the' Edward Cullen, but I wish they could have chosen someone better. Robert Pattinson is a good actor, but not for Twilight. As for Kristen Stewart, her acting sucks. Well, not really bad, but her acting isn't Bella at all. Even when she said she's not afraid of Edward, she still looks scared. As for Nikki Reed (Rosalie), they should have chosen a prettier and a real BLONDE. Her depiction in the book is the most beautiful creature in the face of the planet for pete's sake! But Nikki Reed still passes for me. Jackson Rathbone was really okay for the role of Jasper. And I didn't dislike him at all in the movie (although he is very funny). I've got nothing to say to Elizabeth Reaser (Esme) except for the fact she looks too old for the role and Kellan Lutz was pretty okay too. Other than that, I give two thumbs-up to Ashley Greene (Alice Cullen), Cam Gigandet (James), Rachelle Lefèvre who played Victoria (although I wish her hair was redder than that), Edi Gathegi (Laurant), and Peter Faccineli (Dr. Carlisle) who were perfect for the role given to them. As for the human roles... I am satisfied.
- Another factor why the movie sucks is because most of the cast haven't even read the book! I have watched interviews, sneak-peaks, and behind the scenes and it was pretty much obvious they don't know much about the story other than the stuff written on their script.
- The effects. My GOODNESS! Cheap tricks and bad stunts. Hello?! It's already 2008! They should have provided better effects than that! And the way Robert Pattinson was climbing a tree? It was sooo OBVIOUS that he was being pulled up! It would have been better if they just pulled him at a pace a normal climber would then fast-forward it. Robert's arms barely caught up with the way he was pulled up while Kristen was on his back.
- The CULLEN house. I expected a more grand/wider/bigger/BETTER house. The house depicted in the book wasn't like that at all.
- The lines and scenes. There are a lot of reasons why people LOVE the Twilight Saga. One major factor/reason is the awesome and romantic lines Edward Cullen says to Bella Swan. Another are the awesome and thrilling love scenes. In the movie, you wouldn't appreciate Edward's love to Bella that much. (But I forgive the movie producers for this one. It will be hard to put every single scene and lines in movie that runs in less than 3 hours.)
- Bella's Lullaby. COME ON! It's a lullaby and Carter Burwell composition doesn't even sound like a lullaby! His version of Bella's Lullaby is awesome, but it just doesn't fit with the story. River Flows in You by Yiruma would have been a better choice, but I do understand that you guys prefer if Bella's Lullaby had it's own composition. Still, I am not satisfied of Carter Burwell's compostion for Bella's Lullaby.
- The romance. Okay, it was pretty obvious that this movie is somehow a love story. But the feeling of love and romance between Edward and Bella can not be felt at the movie. In the book, you can't help it but be moved about the way they love each other. The feeling of how safe it is to love again and never to have the fear of getting heart broken. Knowing somebody will love you for an eternity..... (okay. I think I got carried away). The good thing is that the movie still showed the essence of comedy but in a different way.
- The interpretation. I know it is basically impossible to make the movie exactly the same as the book. But the Catherine Hardwicke's interpretation of Twilight is just lame. You can find the true essence or meaning at the movie, but not feel it. Which is exactly the opposite of what it was suppose to be.
- Some are wrong.. JUST SO WRONG! Like in one scene that someone criticized Bella's Truck? In the book, it was pretty much said that it was a good thing that her car didn't blend in badly in the crowd since the most decent car in the lot was a silver volvo (Edward Cullen's car).
“Having lost much of its bite transitioning to the big screen, Twilight will please its devoted fans, but do little for the uninitiated.”
-Rotten Tomatoes
Well, Rotten Tomatoes... I think you better rethink that statement. Based on my observation, people who haven't read the book say they like/love the film.
The overall opinion seems to be that ‘Twilight’ has lost a little magic in the transition from book to film!
-Sugarlasm
A little magic? A LITTLE?! Are you kidding?!
I have a lot more to say about the movie. The producer's are lucky that the movie made $70.6 Million Dollars on its opening weekend. Probably the movie would have been great if I haven't read the book yet. As for me, the Twilight Movie is a BIG disappointment and I would recommend all those Twilight movie fans who haven't read the novel.. to FREAKING READ THE BOOK! It's 4000x better! If you like the movie, you'll absolutely LOVE the book!
As for those who hasn't seen the movie... FORGET ABOUT IT! JUST READ "Twilight" by Stephenie Meyer.
I am hoping the next movie will be better, but I am sad because the highlight of this series was the first book - Twilight.

Cruel.. but right. The romance in the book wasn't properly shown in the movie.

Movie wasnt that good as the book, but it did not suck, its a really strong word
I would say the movie is pretty good for first timers, for people who have not read the book and proceeded to the movie right away. Yes, there are a lot of modifications in the movie that I'd spotted, but those were just minor details. The Twilight book one was a very long story, cant expect everything in it to be included in the movie. Robert Pattinson wasnt that bad
In short, its a nice relaxing romance movie, with a bit of humor and action, but not diverting too far away from the main focus that is Edward and Bella

Enjoy

Anyways, I already know that first timers adore the movie.
But there are still a few newbies on the saga who absolutely hate the movie, and will never read the book.
That is why I am so mad. My best friend didn't read the book, but watched the movie w/o my knowledge. All of the sudden, she told me she hates the movie and will NEVER read the book no matter how much I tell her that the book is just awesome.
And if the movie is that great, how come they fired Hradwicke (the director of Twilight)?
We all have different opinions about the movie, but this is my say about the matter at hand. I do respect your views, so do not misunderstand.
Winter # 15. December 2008, 17:00
But well, some people are just too critical and skeptic. Maybe your friend is one of them? No offense
Anyway, Im never a hater of any movies or books, I'm either neutral or interested

Maybe I am trying to destroy the movie and persuade people to read the book instead... either way, I know most of the stuff I posted about the matter was true, but as the old saying qoutes: "No one is perfect".

i have this close friend who hated the movie as well but of course it's my job as a fan of the book to force her to read the book [hahahaha] but like ur friend she doesnt want to! i figured out later that she was just using the never-read-the-book-because-the-movie-sucked excuse for her laziness to read!!! grrr!!

and by the way is it true that Jacob's character in New Moon will be played by another actor?
ɥʇɐǝp ɟo ssǝɔuıɹd # 18. December 2008, 12:03
I think this time the production and movie will be better this time. And I hope they will give a bigger budget for New Moon seeing how much money they earned from the 1st movie.
CLick here to see more details about the casting of Jacob Black for New Moon

i red the comments been put up here....u know its not really possible to potray every element of a novel into a moviee...its easy to imagine things n put up on paper than enact the same in reality.....
the movie wasn that bad......i kinda fallen for it....charecters were nice, n i want to tell u guys my opinion abt one particular point of the movie...when bella says she is not afraid, however she looks....its perhaps cos the fact that she wanted to come close to edward, didnt want to loose him but at the same time was uncertain abt the intensity of his thrust for her blood.....that she even had mentioned in the next scene abt the 3 +ve things.....
overall....it was an awesome one for me......waiting for new moon egerly......
