This user javascript collapse headers and footer. And they are toggleable.
Collect links at the top into a compact menu ( "more v" ).
Scale down the search bar.
Hide other useless element.
Maximize the main content area.
google-reader-maximizer.user.zip
It is shared as is. No guarantee it will work for google reader of other language.
You may need to modify the code a bit.
