Help! I think my phone is evolving!

.
My phone has learnt a new trick!

.
It's happened twice now and I don't know why! Every morning at 4am, the alarm buzzes. Nothing unusuall about that, it's supposed to do that 'cos that's what it's programmed to do.

. But when I press the 'ok' button to turn the alarm off, a strange thing happens. The last application That I was using comes on.

. Usually, that's Operamini 3.1 although sometimes it's Operamini 4.2

.
Even stranger is that it starts up with the last page that I was on.

. I'm starting to wonder whether this is somehow related to Operamini sometimes not working.

. I think that, because I use socket connection mode, Operamini fails to shut down completely when I exit. Perhaps it just continues running in the background, keeping the socket open. When I launch it again, the first one that's open is still running in the background and hogging the socket. My phone has partial support for running apps in the background. If I recieve a call whilst online, Operamini will go to background whilst I answer the call. But it exits completely when downloading.

. There is also no resume function documented. and this latest trick is undocumented. This might partially explain why MMS has stopped working and why Emails can still be sent, but retrieving recieved emails won't work.

. I wish I could get a firmware update, or at least, find a way to tweak the existing firmware.

You might find some unofficial firmware updates for your phone on the web though.

So ... you could find a landline and call your mobile phone number while you're downloading to keep everything from exiting?
(I know nothing about phone browsing, of course ...

My phone exits for no reason at all sometimes which gets annoying but I think its due to no RAM available..
Boost this by taking out battery for a couple of minutes. You can see the boost if you use Handy Taskman as a application..
Never had a app come on without ordered to

Still looking for another phone though. It's hard to choose a phone when all the ID10T behind the counter will show you is a plastic mockup of a phone that costs almost as much as a car.

Thus, in order to recieve video streams, you need a vodafone handset. Vodacom's customer support is worse than pathetic. Thier staff don't even know what an apn is. Now I don't expect the ordinary man (or woman) in the street to know that, but if it's your job to give technicall support to people that use a device that requires an apn, surely you should at least know what one is?
Yeah, I realise that I'm ranting, but it's frustrating to know the potentiall of current technology just to be blocked by corporate bureaucracy.
They argue that they are merely selling what the customer wants. But I am the customer. I know what I want and it's not the load of BS that they're trying to cram down my throat!
So in the words of Charlie Brown, "Aaaargh!":

If you expect
a mobile phone
to wake you,
when you're
on your own,
then you expect
too much from
this technology.
It's not as evolved
as you, you see?
Why use a phone
as an alarm setter?
A digital clock
would be far better!
Use each gadget
for its proven task,
and you won't
growl and scowl,
or have to ask
why it is
this mobile phone
behaves that way
- then you will not
feel fed up, and that
alone must make
a better day.

I didn't know that mobiles were capable of learning by themselves now.
Wait,
lokutus_prime # 15. December 2008, 18:32
But if it does then perhaps you could buy a better one
from a shop called "Needful Things"
qlue # 15. December 2008, 18:58
Yes, that shop does have some interesting goods.
His best book though, has got to be, "Through The Eyes Of The Dragon"

His best book, in seven parts, has got to be, "The Dark Tower"
Cois # 16. December 2008, 00:53
I haven't read "The Dark Tower" yet. Googled it and gonna see if I can find anything..
Bag of Bones is, for me at least, his worst book..

Seems it's harder to come by in these small towns as the librarian didn't even know what I was talking about
qlue # 17. December 2008, 05:53
When your next door neighbour is a sugarcane field then you live in a small town.
