My thoughts this Christmas

How refreshing it was for me to talk to one of my dearest friends today. All because she asked me what did I do for Christmas?

It’s such a stressful l time of the year from Thanksgiving right through Christmas. Everyone is always trying to outdo everyone else. Have the best decorations, the best lights etc. Children busy making their lists of things they want to ask Santa for Christmas.
I know that much of this is brought on by the stores themselves, eager to sell the most. This is the busiest time of year for them. Black Friday got its name for being the day that sales bring them from red to black in their books.

The true meaning of Christmas seems to have been lost. I know that charity is big this time of year. If you want to help serve dinner to the homeless, there is a waiting line. I think that’s great. But I have to think that the rest of the year, there is not only no waiting line, but not enough people to help. Does everyone think that the homeless are only hungry at Christmas? And it’s not just the homeless. There are so many people that are one paycheck away from being homeless; So many people that are struggling day after day to keep a roof over their heads and food on their table.

This time of year we see so many people donating; so many avenues to donate. What about the rest of the year? Do you think that everyone if fine all year long until Christmas?
I just get a little cynical this time of year because it seems to be the only time that most people care. Don’t get me wrong. I think it’s wonderful to see the outpouring of donations, but what about the other 11 months? There isn’t much notoriety for helping out the rest of the year. It’s true. But it’s just as much appreciated. Isn’t that what’s important? Is your calling to the media for attention or to people in need for our higher conscience?

You see, I believe that someday we all have to face our maker. At that time we will have to answer for everything we do. We will then be judged; not by the media, but by God.
So, almost everyone I spoke with today for Christmas asked me what did you get for Christmas? But one very special person didn’t bother to ask that. She asked what did you do for Christmas.
