Raman Thediya Seethai - Download Movie Review

Raman Thediya Seethai.
The name itself suggested me that it could be a love subject or something on that sorts. But when I entered Santham, my thoughts smashed into pieces when I saw that 90% of the crowd are above 40!!! Confused

Plot :
Venu (Cheran) is portrayed as a successful wedding card business owner who is searching for a bride for almost 3 years, to settle down in his life. The movie starts in Nagerkoil with a bride and groom meeting. Venu briefs about his past to Ranjitha (Vimala Raman). Ranjitha, hearing that he spent some months in a mental treatment hospital gets shocked, and rejects Venu.

Venu decides that he should reveal his past history to all alliances he meet, and so, he does the same in all meetings and end up getting rejected. Days pass by, and surprisingly, Manivannan's daughter Ramya Nambeesan agrees to marry him. On the wedding day, Ramya flees with her boyfriend and Venu gets blamed. Later much depressed Venu meets Nedumaran (Pasupathi) a visually challenged Radio RJ and was impressed by his story about how he fell in love with a girl and eventually married her.

Re-charged, Venu returns back to daily life. Meanwhile Manivannan who feels bad about his daughter's act, steps in to search a bride for Venu. He arranges to meet an alliance (Gayathri) in Nagerkoil. Gayathri(Karthiga) is a college student who knows about his past through Venu's mother, agrees to marry him. On their way back, Cheran and Manivannan meet Gunaseelan (nitin sathya) an auto-driver but a former thief and learns that he is in love with Gayathri. After meeting Gayathri again, Venu decides to drop Gayathri.

In between, Venu accidentally finds that Ramya (manivannan's daughter) is in Nagerkoil, married her ex-boy friend but living in a troubled situation. Venu helps her in going thru medical scans and finds that Ranjitha is working in the same hospital.

Things wind up quickly when Ramya was admitted in hospital for labor pain and Ranjitha and Cheran gets more chances to meet and chat. Ranjitha understands that her fears about him were baseless and is willing to marry him. But she is unable to figure out a way to convey it to Venu. Meanwhile Nedumaran (RJ) arranges to meet another alliance in Nagerkoil. The alliance is a lady Police Inspector (Navya nair) who in a unfortunate situation orders a latti charge on Cheran and a by-standing mob. Beaten badly in the police charge Cheran runs away and finds that he has come near Ranjitha's house. The rest is... movie.

Review :
Already depressed by the fact that 90% of the crowd was above 40, I was shocked to see that the movie started with a sad note. I feared that I would end up tearing the seat and run like a mad man. But fortunately, the movie takes a peppy path when Pasupathy gets in. After pasupathy's story, again there is a bit of sad note that plays along until Gayathri-Gunaseelan story comes up. Then the movie ends up satisfactorily.

Karunas plays a short role and his comedy is just so-so.The screenplay could have gone through another iteration to make it more lively or peppy. It was little dull. It is those two short in-line stories that make the movie watchable. The director has done his best to weave a somewhat complex story into an understand-able script. (or he did the vice-versa?)

After murali, there was no one to fill his place. But I'll tell you...Cheran is the best guy to fill the roles of "always-sad" Murali. I couldnt resist but to me, Cheran is Murali 2.0. Cheran should change his style, selection of roles, or he will be permanently branded as a "soga-geetham" actor.

The credits say, Vidyasagar is the music director. Appidiya?????

Conclusion:
To sum up, the movie was like.. travelling through Royapettah and Triplicane's zig zag lanes, taking many diversions here and there.. and then finally reaching the main road - Anna Salai.

A watchable family movie without any kuthu paatu, item songs and Rap. You'll enjoy if you are the type who like stories that talks about sentiments, feelings, love etc.

My rating : 3/5.

DAZ 3D Studio - Total Disappointment

When I searched for free 3D software, DAZ 3D Studio was one among the results. I was happy that it was free and has a big user community. But to my happiness didn't last long. Only after installing, I realized that DAZ Studio does not posses any object creation facility. All you have to do is.. purchase the objects from DAZ website and use DAZ Studio to compose the scene.

I was not interested in purchasing a model. So I simply un-installed it.

Now, the outcome is - I will never use DAZ 3D Studio or any of their associated products unless someone recommends or there comes a situation where I have to use DAZ 3D studio only. I am pretty sure their business model will not succeed in the long run.

ProDAD Heroglyph - Digital Video Title Software

Consumer level video title creators are sparse. Most of the bundled title makers are generally basic and don't offer any advanced or hollywood level quality. My search for a new good quality video titler has took a break at ProDAD. The ProDAD Heroglyph 2.6 sounds to be an answer for the requirements. The demo videos looks good.

Let the download complete and I will post a review after evaluating the software.

PC Gaming = no more? DRM pushes users to switch to Console Gaming...

Looks like PC Gaming is going to be a history soon. The recent shift of decisions to adopt DRM systems for PC games communicates that PC gaming might become dead soon. The recent SecuROM conflict about EA's SPORE game shows that EA wants to cash in as much as possible. Though www.gamingsteve.com sheds some light that EA has gracefully decided to restrict only the online plays through constant authentication, it is still not clear about what are the implications of such a DRM. Infact many game / music publishers never publish any such copy-protection / piracy protection details on the product.

So, where does all these gonna lead to? My guess is - End of hardcore PC gaming. By introducing notorious authentications and root kits, PC users will be pushed to buy console games where you will never find any such notorious DRM's. Console gaming is comparatively huge money compared to PC gaming. The publishers make huge profit out of console games. So by making everyone buy& use consoles to play games, they create a new market wherein they can make more money than they made in PC games.

Some of the weird things I can foresee are :

1. After some 5 years, PC Gaming will become more-or-less obsolete. Only flash games and family-games will stay in PC Gaming arena.
2. All hard-core games will be published only in the consoles. Many hot titles will become console-only games.
3. nVidia will eventually shift it's focus towards GPU / CPU computing rather than projecting itself as mainstream graphics leader. CUDA and Tesla are clear evidence that nvidia is expanding into all possible alternate money making streams.
4. Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo will emerge as market leaders in console gaming (they already are, anyway!).
5. After PC gaming loses market, SecuROM will be acquired by EA or any other publisher.
6. ATI-AMD, nvidia, Sony, Toshiba, IBM, NEC, TSMC will become the major designers and suppliers of console gaming hardware.
7. Intel would try to lead the market with multi-core processors and will produce chips capable of delivering more performance for upcoming PC OS and Mac OS. Tough competition will come from AMD and China's Loongson.
8. AMD will undergo several internal changes to focus on competition with nvidia and Intel.

Concluding, unless there happens some miracle, the PC gaming industry will become a history. And there will be an article in Wikipedia that describes the rise and fall of PC gaming.

Quality comes at a price - Economy Shopping Vs Quality Shopping

I have a liking for quality as well as economy. My shopping includes 95% of direct shopping and 5% of online shopping. Online shopping is a convenience. But it comes at a price. I usually make about a dozen online purchases a year. Mostly in eBay and Rediff shopping. Since I am skeptical about the products, I usually make purchases that doesn't cross Rs.500. Because I am not sure about the sellers and their product's quality. Sometimes there are good sellers who sell products that are crappy. And there are bad sellers who ship the product after much delays.

On a general observation, I found that nearly half of the products I purchased through eBay.in or any other online shopping mall has gone kaput. I don't blame anyone, but I realized that the cheap products don't live long. The money I spent has been wasted!

Quality comes at a price. For example, I was very nervous when I purchased my Altec Lansing 2100 (a 2.1 computer speaker) for Rs.6400. I was worried whether I made a purchase by pure emotion and whether the speaker justifies the Rs.6400 tag?. But later I realized that my worries are wrong. The altec works perfectly well and makes my room blur with its thunderous bass even after 4 years. It outperforms most of the Creative's 2.1 systems. I am proud now and I am an Altec lover. For ever.

Oh btw, I purchased this speaker from a local dealer, and not in eBay or other online shopping malls.

So does quality always comes with a price? In most cases, YES!. But doing a clever research would help you to find the best value-for-money deals. Before buying anything, do a little research and don't restrict yourself for cheap options. This way you can enjoy good products that lasts much longer. :-)

Seven Ancient Wonders - by Matthew Reilly

Seven Ancient Wonders is a fictional treasure-hunt novel by Matthew Reilly released in 2006. This is my first attempt to read a fictional story by this author. Interestingly the novel is quite good. Ignoring the practical logics and some loop holes here and there, the pace at which he narrates the story keeps you glued to the couch. Loosely based on some mythological facts and revolves around ancient wonders, Seven Ancient Wonders is a novel with West as the protoganist and a ally of European and American villains who are in pursuit of a ancient pyramid structure.

The plot starts straight away with the action and there are enough inserts along the story ot give you a lot of background and historical info. I didn't check the authenticity of the facts told in the story. So I am unable to judge the quality of the authors sources. Generally the story sounds real, and Matthew has done his best job to keep the plot quick and tense. The adventures faced during the hunt for each golden slabs has been vividly described and most of the time it invokes the Indiana Jones feeling! :-) Good work.

Interestingly there are direct mentions of J R R Tolkein's The Lord of the Ring's book and even Dan Brown's Da vin code plot.

Concluding, I would say Seven Ancient Wonders by Matthew Reilly is a good time-pass novel and you will definitely enjoy, if you are a treasure-hunt fan.
