不要被甜腻的旋律所蒙蔽，因为这是Luke Haines、John Moore、Sarah Nixey三只英伦魔鬼所布下的一个局，一个充满黑色幽默讽刺的圈套。在这个冷艳易碎的少女唱腔下面，更多的是描述对社会现实的批判，悲观失落的同情，对美好的憧憬。这就是Black Box Recorder音乐骨子里面的神髓。虽然他们只发行过三张专辑《England Made Me》、《Passionoia》、《The Facts Of Life》，但是已经足够让我们在英伦音乐历史里面竖起Black Box Recorder的这面记忆的旗帜了。

主唱Sarah Nixey以个人名义发行的《Sing，Memory》专辑风格上改变了不少，呵呵。《England Made Me》那张个人喜欢的就只《Ideal Home》那首，所以就不传了，乐队成员的辉煌历史这里我也不累赘了，你们自己去翻一翻吧。题外话，《Passionoia》这张间接带给我的不愉快经历，呵呵，不能说。只有我知道。

Third album from sleaze-pop ironists featuring erstwhile Auteurs mastermind Luke Haines. This follow-up to 2000's 'The Facts of Life' has a more uptempo, electronic feel than before, subversively coating sugary pop over the bitter cynicism of the lyrics.

So far, there's no word of a U.S. release for this album. With any luck that situation will be corrected soon, as "Passionoia" is the best Black Box Recorder album yet. The sound is a shade brighter than their past efforts-- a little more emphasis on synthesizers, pretty much an even split between live drums and programmed rhythms-- but this only serves to enhance the cynicism and bleakness of the words Sarah Nixey sings in her incongruously ethereal voice. The album opener, "School Song", extends the grand British tradition of castigating the rigidity and individuality-destroying aspects of the educational system, with Nixey speak-singing the role of the cold, embittered teacher; and things only get darker from there, with tales of romantic disaster ("GSOH Q.E.D.") and unhealthy celebrity obsession ("The New Diana"), all set to stunningly gorgeous melodies. There's even a trace of hip-hop influence in the semi-rapped section of "When Britain Refused To Sing"-- and believe me, it works a whole lot better than Madonna's clumsy flow on "American Life". This is genuinely uncompromising music, all the more cutting for its deceptively upbeat sonic surfaces, and it's one of the finest albums of the year so far.

The first Black Box Recorder album, 1998's England Made Me, was originally conceived by Auteurs and Baader Meinhof frontman Luke Haines as a typically baleful response to the cultural and political hysteria--respectively, Britpop and Tony Blair--then gripping Britain. Recorded with the help of former Jesus & Mary Chain drummer John Moore and singer Sarah Nixey, it did for Britpop roughly what the film Carrie did for the senior prom. The Facts of Life, the follow-up, maintains the withering glare but fixes it this time on the personal. The songs here obsess with unnerving clarity and mordant wit on the banal, cruel details of human relationships and are narrated perfectly by Nixey. Where her perfectly English-accented whisper infused England Made Me with the air of a bored aristocrat finding contemptuous amusement in the misery of others, on The Facts of Life she has located an edge of taunting viciousness all the more diabolical for being so understated. The tunes, as ever, are sweet and insidious, perhaps best thought of as Saint Etienne turned feral. Highlights on an album full of them are "English Motorway" and "The Art of Driving"--BBR triumphantly reclaiming the American rock & roll prerogative of the road song for their damp, claustrophobic homeland. The Facts of Life is a masterpiece.

Black Box Recorder are an enigma. A three piece comprised of the haunting and fragile-voiced Sarah Nixey, Auteurs henchman Luke Haines and absinthe importer (& former Jesus & Mary Chain) John Moore. Stylistally, the band have catapulted themselves into some netherworld halfway between Air and Velvet Underground. Instruments include, Guitar arpeggios, synthesizers, glockenspiels, chiming xylophones, strings and drum machines. This release features the bonus tracks, 'Start As You Mean To Go Up' and 'Brutality'. Standard jewel case. 2001 release.

男女2人のアコースティック・ユニットによるメジャー・ファースト・アルバム。ジャズやブルースを現代感覚で捉えたというべきサウンドで、山口彰久の流麗なアコギを中心に、ウッド・ベースやピアノがデリケートに折り重なった静謐な演奏に、山本高稲の憂いを帯びたヴォーカルが加わり、深い夜のような濃厚な匂いを醸し出している。山本のヴォーカルは特に素晴らしい。低音でのブルージーな発声から、ファルセットでの感情がこぼれ落ちるようなダイナミックな歌唱までを歌いこなし、芯の強さや太さをもった秀逸な歌い手だ。エゴ・ラッピンなどに近い雰囲気があるが、すでに独自の世界観を獲得した作品といえるだろう。

所谓天下无不散之宴席，美好的东西为何维持得那么短暂？消逝的前一刻却总是那么的璀璨。就像早已解散多年的suede，当年听着他们长大的人跟现在听the tears的感觉是不同的，前者是一个诡异神秘销魂的杀手，而后者却像一个漏气的气球、一个老去的父亲。

以前总不能很好的去理解迷星的音乐，现在听回来却有新的体会。美好的东西应该好好的珍惜，应该好好的把握。虽然主唱Hope Sandoval在其后跟My Bloody Valentine的鼓手Colm O’Ciosoig合作出过新唱片，但是辉煌的才华燃尽后始终无法超越前者的，今天找来迷星解散前的最后一张音乐《Among My Swan》好好的体会一下，好好的再在她们那穿透耳膜，穿透心扉的迷幻白色噪音中沉溺一下。

Mazzy Star's latest album, Among My Swan, is both an exceptional sound and experience. Perhaps there should be one qualification in that its not for everyone in the Techno Spice World of Top 40. The Velvet Underground, the Doors, blues and even country are commonly cited as influences on the album's various tracks. Hope Sandoval's ethereal vocals glide gracefully over the studied understatement of Dave Roback's guitar work and arrangements. The music turns rhythmically in subtle shades of tone and mood like sunlight through swaying branches on an eternal afternoon. Notable tracks include "Flowers in December" and "I've Been Let Down" which really let Hope's exquisite lyrics and voice shine. Shy and heartfelt, she can convey a sadness so profound that it is almost resignation. The music has been described as depressing, but in its own way, like an opera, it magically transforms that sadness into something beautiful, poignant and ultimately powerful. If you've noticed, it tends to inspire the group's fans to wax poetic, perhaps having been in touch with something extraordinary.

如果说Isobel Campbell的那张《Amorino》专辑是充满童趣天真幻想和温情的作品，那这张《Milk White Sheets》则是在繁星点点的仲夏夜里消暑解闷的好作品。

Isobel的大提琴依旧个性十足，悠扬的的吉他，时而点缀的口琴，和谐的和声。很多的时候还是Isobel温柔的耳语式独自吟唱，简单，很简单，这俨然是一种享受，一种宁静致远的享受。
