I play in a couple local flute choirs. These are some MP3's from a recital one of the groups did about a year ago. There may be quite a bit of a delay after you hit the play button before it actually starts to play (the myopera file server is running slow at this time).

insect bug cicada locust molting
It's cicada season...the time of the year when the cicadas emerge from underground to shed their skins and begin their adult life. As a kid, I would go out and gather up sackfuls of these things. It gave me something to do. LOL This fellow was clinging onto some brush I was cleaning up in our front yard.

snow goose, snow geese, geese, goose
...
I grew up near Middle Creek Wildlife Management Area. Middle Creek is owned by the Pennsylvania Game Commission. The area is a favorite stopping point for large numbers of migratory waterfowl. Every year, thousands of Canada geese, snow geese, tundra swans and all kinds of ducks. When we were visiting my family in Pennsylvania last month, we stopped at Middle Creek to watch the snow geese. It was an impressive sight.

Thou Shalt Not Park Here! I had a rehearsal at a local church today. They were also hosting a large conference of some sort, and the parking lots were filled to capacity. They must have had trouble in the past with people parking in inconvenient/hazardous places, so they had a bunch of these signs all along the driveways. I couldn't resist taking a pic. LOL

This is not our dinner for tonight. We ran across this guy on a visit to Mexico a few years ago. He was enamored with our rented VW beetle. :-)

instrument, focalink, ocarina, woodwind
...
My latest ocarina is a WangYue model from Focalink Ocarinas. It's an alto 6-hole pendant ocarina pitched in C. I'll try to get a decent video or soundclip up shortly.
Wikipedia has a fairly good article on the history of the ocarina for those of you who might be interested in that. :-)

instrument, focalink, songbird, ocarina
...
My latest instrument purchases all came from Songbird Ocarinas. I'm trying to expand my ocarina arsenal. The eagle bone flute and the Dragon Tooth ocarina are both creations by Durian Songbird. The pendant ocarina on the right is by Focalink Ocarinas and sold by Songbird Ocarinas.
The ocarina has been in existence for thousands of years. It's had a recent popularity boost from the video "The Legends of Zelda" which apparently features an ocarina.
The eagle bone flute is not an ocarina however. It's a flute/whistle tuned to the Native American pentatonic scale. And of course, it is not an actual bone from an eagle, it's a copy done in ceramic.
The Dragon Tooth is a 12-hole alto ocarina in C. It sounds really good and looks pretty amazing. It comes with a nice acrylic display stand, chain and songbook.
The small teardrop pendant on the right is a 6-hole soprano ocarina in G. It has an amazing sound.

I've been busy uploading the pics from our recent trip to the Yucatan. This guy was lounging on the ruins of a temple at the Mayan site of Cobá. We rented a car for a day and drove down there from Cancun. It was a great site with lots of birds, animals and ruins.

bluejay, jay, baby bird, bird
OK, it's really a baby Blue Jay doing his best vulture imitation. There are lots of young birds and animals in our yard at the moment. This little blue jay still has most of its baby fluff, but enough regular feathers that it can fly a little. There are more pics on flickr. :-)

It was over 70 degrees today, and the birds were enjoying an afternoon of cooling off in the birdbath. This male cardinal just finished his "bath". :-)
