Electric shaving, something new for me
Tuesday, 28. July 2009, 17:25:47
This time it'll be a topic related to hardware. But to a different kind of hardware. Electric shavers.
I've decided that classic razors (Gilette dual blade) are not really for me because they really irritate my skin. So i got myself brand new Braun Series 3 370. It's a foil shaver. Got it for 69 eur after rebates for employees. Not bad considering i also got the PocketGo thingie for free. Anyway, i found out that it shaves really well, on some areas even closer than the razors i used to use before, without risking any cuts or excessive irritation of skin. But i have really bad problems shaving my neck area. It just can't cut some hair there no matter how hard i'm trying from all directions (especially on very curved areas). I know each user has it's own skin type and facial hair grow (and even type), but are there any general tips how to shave well the more "bumpy" areas with foil type shaver?
If anyone has some good tips related to this, feel free to post it. I'll be very happy. And i'm sure it'll come in handy for others too.

Good electric razor. I use a Braun also, albeit a different model. I have a very coarse beard. The best results for me happen after washing my face and neck with a mild soap, rinsing, and then using a very hot wash cloth to further soften my whiskers. The softer you can get your beard, the cleaner the shave in my experience.

If i somehow manage to get around this, i'll actually start to like shaving lol.

I've also have bought electrical razor ,
but mine is Philips (LOL, same name as you - "rejzor"). Philips razors have three(or two for older versions) circles and from that are different from Braun. With this difference for shaving it works for me, but i don't know if it work for you, because Braun has different configuration.
First, is to shave the beard up and down(classicly for electrical razor).
Also, the thing(tip) is to go through face with circular movements, both left and right.
You will choose some place and move the razor in circle, like movements of the clock. And all the way for all the beard.
As i have said, it works for Philips, but dunno if will work for others. In the manual should also be some tips.
When i wanted to buy razor i first search @net.
Some guys said that Braun is not that good for sensitive skin(besides that it was my first choice), so that's why i have gone for other option.

Yeah, i also use circular movements, although that's more common for Philips's 3-blade head. I also read that it's better to shave sensitive areas first before the foil and blade heat up so you can avoid heat based skin irritation.
I like the way how those 3 blades adopt to the skin surface and that there is no vibrations during usage. I guess i'll take Philips next time just out of curiosity to see which one is better.

Funny, I got sick and tired of shaving my 15 year old Son, with a twin blade "wet" razor, so bought him a Remington electric razor, plus one for myself at christmas '08 . It gives a close shave, but for both of us the neck is very difficult. The model I'm refering has three circular rotating blades, which have a slight suspension device so it can apply constant pressure as it travels over ridges, etc.
Instructions say dont press hard, and to stretch your face as you move the razor around in a circular motion. Shaving the neck however I get a horrible sore rash. Dunno if it's just a learning curve, but I've gone back to a "wet" razor for my neck, a sore rash is no fun at all, lol. Interesting subject.

So i have to use regular blade to cut those stubborn whiskers and finish the shaving. Maybe i should shave slightly more often than i do now, maybe then it will work right.

As far as tips for neck shaving, I've found that the harder you push and rub it against your skin to cut the hairs the worse job it does and the more it irritates. I've had the best luck just resting it lightly against the skin and moving it in small circles. I'm not sure if shaving in circles with a straight razor would be the best idea though.
