How to silence multimedia keys in Opera

, , , ,

In the lastest weekly releases of Opera multimedia keys on your keyboard should work. The downside to that is that Opera probably has shortcuts assigned to those buttons. That means that if you press the next button for example the action assigned to that button (Page down | Forward | Fast forward) is still executed. Altering your keyboard setup so that doesn't happen anymore is pretty simple:

  1. Go to Tools -> preferences -> advanced -> shortcuts
  2. Select your current keyboard setup and click duplicate
  3. Select the new keyboard setup and click rename. Give it a meaningful name so you know what it contains
  4. Select the new keyboard setup again and click edit
  5. In the searchfield, enter "RC_" (without the quotes)
  6. Delete every line containing "platform mac-windows" (if you're on a mac, also delete the lines not containing "windows")
  7. Click OK
  8. Select the new keyboard setup and click OK
If it doesn't work and you have a wireless keyboard, reconnect it. That should help.
