Remco's piece of the Opera-web

...which still needs a lot of work

Single word search in the Opera address bar

, , , ,

Instead of doing "g testing" some people prefer it without the "g" (or any other search shortcut). Here's how to get that to work:

  1. Go to opera:config#network
  2. Disable "Check Local HostName"
  3. Disable "Enable HostName Expansion"
  4. Enable "Enable HostName Web Lookup"
  5. Put the search url (you can find ready to go ones in the search preferences) into "HostName Web Lookup Address"
  6. Press save under the section and you're done!

Is there any way to prevent opendns from hijacking the single word searches in opera. I don't want to use opendns as default as it uses yahoo engine.

Most of two character searches works fine with this method but i found one that doesn't, with 'go' i get:

"Error! You tried to access the address http://go/, which is currently unavailable..."

And 'go' is not one of my search keywords, even those are reachable.

Can someone confirm? Bug?

My Opera (10b2,1643) do the same - "go" goes to error page. The same I have for "goo", "co", "ce". It doesnt matter if it is search key word - for some keywords Opera search, for some not (maybe some reserved words...)

But I dont mind this "bug" wink

"go" works on Opera 10.5.
