Palo Alto Online Staff
A full-grown mountain lion was sighted Thursday evening on a rooftop in south Palo Alto, in the 800 block of Rorke Way, police reported today (Friday).
Sgt. Dan Ryan said a 45-year-old man heard footsteps on the roof of a neighbor's house and saw the large cat, which jumped off the roof into the back yard.

Leo Alley, 22, spins Lyn Berry-Shiva, 58, across the dance floor at the National Single Cougars Conference at the Dinah's Garden Hotel in Palo Alto Friday. The event brought Cougars (women 40 and older) and cubs (younger men) together for a night of socializing and for some a chance to find a partner.

“Oh my God! We’re leaving,” shrieked a befuddled Cheryl to her Russian compatriot. “Ira, you know where we are? Do you know what kind of party this is? I thought this was a regular convention, I had no idea!”
Apparently Cheryl, a native Russian and San Ramon resident — clad in a black spaghetti-string top, playfully striped skirt and pointy three-inch pumps — did not get the memo. She was attending America’s premiere National Single Cougars Convention, a ball where older eligible women were supposed to be seeking the company of men; men much younger than traditional family mores might deem acceptable.

Sebastopol, North Bay Ruby User's Group, web application development, O'Reilly Publishers
...
As I mentioned in my last post, I've gotten pretty busy the last few days (alternating with bouts of huge depression).
Thursday night, I attended a meetup of the North Bay Ruby Users Group, which is a group of people working with, developing, experimenting-- or just plain learning-- Ruby on Rails, which is an up-and-coming web application development framework, using Ruby as the programming language, and Rails as the framework (Rails can apparently also be used with other programming "languages" like AJAX). I was having trouble getting my Rails Server to run on my laptop, and I received hands-on assistance in working out the bugs. Now I have to learn how to use the framework to develop web applications.
I'm just getting started in this endeavor.

Church of Latter Day Saints, ballot initiatives, discrimination, campaign finance
...
Lest one become overly elated at the election of Barack Obama for President (racism ain't over, by the way-- we come a long way, but we ain't come that far, baby...), let it be remembered that California, reputed to be the most liberal state in the nation, voted for a Constitutional Amendment to BAN same-sex marriage, with black voters (who came out to vote in record numbers to support Barack Obama) leading the way.
By the way, this ballot initiative on the California ballot was primarily financed by interests from the state of Utah. The Church of Latter Day Saints (LDS-- Mormons) seem to be vitally concerned with the sanctity of marriage, defining it as the union of a man and (one or more) woman (women).

Human Sacrifice, Craigslist, Philistines, Sunset District
...
Although my life is currently in an excruciating place in Limbo, the surroundings are scenic (I believe this premise has been used in comedy sketches in the past).
I am currently staying in the Inner Sunset District of San Francisco, two blocks & around the corner from the offices of Craigslist
People in San Francisco are very environmentally-conscious, and insist upon placing their garbage
somewhere in the vicinity of designated trash receptacles.
Today was the first Tuesday of the month, which meant it was free day at the De Young Museum in Golden Gate Park. Free, that is, except for the featured exhibit, in this case glasswork by some artist named Chihuly (who I've never heard of. so I'm a Philistine...). In this case, I was on the viewing platform on the top of the tower, when a woman realized she had an urgent appointment and was unable to use her ticket to the featured exhibit, so she gave it to me (
pictures are on the way).
Here is a picture of the new De Young Museum:
Apparently the tower was designed to suggest a Mayan pyramid. Careful what time you head up to the tower: I understand they arbitrarily select a visiter from the crowd for Human Sacrifice. Probably just people without tickets-- I was probably safe after I got the ticket.
I also have another new album that I'm working on, which is comprised of photos from various places around San Francisco. Keep tuning in-- I'll be adding more as I go.

Sonoma County, wallpaper, San Francisco, California
...
I just resized a few of my favorite photos for use as wallpaper.
Feel free to pillage! There are two sizes for each photo: photos in the left column are sized 1320 x 990 pixels, for those of you with really BIG screens, and on the right, photos are sized 1200 x 900 for those of us with
normal screens.
Just one example of the FINE ARTISTRY you'll find on this page:
I'll be adding more as I get around to resizing things. Stay tuned for more adventures!

California, lighting the way, decorations, grief
...
This Christmas exhibition was created by a father to deal with the grief at the death of their daughter Andee to a drunk driver. When I walk home from the bus stop at night, it is there to light my way home.

psychedelic art, art galleries, Stanley Mouse, Glen Ellen
...
That's why I haven't been blogging much except for silly little frivolous items. Putting some of the final touches on a website for a friend of mine in Glen Ellen, for her
Showcase Gallery
where she feature such notables as
Linus Maurer (inspiration for the character "Linus" in the late Charles Schultz's widely-celebrated Peanuts cartoon. And she is currently showing an original work by
Stanley Mouse, who all you 60's era afficianados will know from numerous psychedelic posters and album covers.
There'll be more, but I gots to gets to bed...
