Nietzsche, Paranoid Gazette, writing, The Brothers Karamazov
...
Now that I have a working (knock on wood) computer, and have time to do some writing, I'll be getting to work on my two blogs (this one and
Media Vulture), as well as some long-neglected websites,
glassangel and
Paranoid Gazette.
I'll be starting things off by directing you to me Goodreads page, beginning with a review of
The Brothers Karamazov by
Fyodor Dostoyevsky
My rating:
5 of 5 stars
Read the book that influenced Sigmund Freud and Nietzsche ("Dostoyevski is the ONLY psychologist from whom I have anything to learn"); was found on Tolstoy's nightstand-- well worn-- when HE died. And, in a book called the "Book of Lists", in the categories "Greatest Books" and "Greatest Writers", Dostoyevski was picked FIRST in both lists-- by two different authors!
And, unlike so many "great" authors, Dostoyevski can be HILARIOUS at times.
I won't bore the reader with an explication of the plot, but I might advise him/her to warm up to the book by reading "Notes from Underground," which explicates the themes that are explored in "Brothers." (btw... I've read this book in its entirety three times (first time in 1978), and read sections of it periodically; and I still find sections that strike me a completely new each time.

psychedelic art, art galleries, Stanley Mouse, Glen Ellen
...
That's why I haven't been blogging much except for silly little frivolous items. Putting some of the final touches on a website for a friend of mine in Glen Ellen, for her
Showcase Gallery
where she feature such notables as
Linus Maurer (inspiration for the character "Linus" in the late Charles Schultz's widely-celebrated Peanuts cartoon. And she is currently showing an original work by
Stanley Mouse, who all you 60's era afficianados will know from numerous psychedelic posters and album covers.
There'll be more, but I gots to gets to bed...

panorama, bad, photoshop, photography
...
First: I was a Bad Blogger, because I had no idea what I wanted to do when some unsuspecting sucker offered me a free forum for my deranged musings...
Second: Some entirely irresponsible adult offered me a megapixel digital camera for less than I would spend in a day on heroin & Ramen noodles, and I became a
Bad Photographer...Finally: I acquire an utter lack of facility in developing javascript applications, and now I am announcing my latest reinvention of myself in creating...
Bad Virtual Reality!!!Take a looksee, and see what happens when you allow people like me to have access to computers!

(believe it or not, it was actually
much worse until I did a little cropping to remove... well...
something like this (yes, that is a car materializing out of a fold in the space-time continuum(sp?))...)

Free Clinic, layout, Sonoma County, website
...
There isn't much to see
so far (my contacts are a little slow getting me things like "content"-- something I'm beginning to suspect is somewhat endemic to this crazy web-building biz...), so this is just the layout (and temporary at best)--

logo design, web development, non-profit, website
...
I'll post anyway. My life is still sh*t, but I just finished a site for a non-profit (
pro bono, of course), and I'm in the preparation stage of developing a website for Santa Rosa Free Clinic (
pro bono, at least initially). For the first project I modified a (collectively) previously decided-upon logo and built a site around it, using PHP and CSS (
edge-y) to make it easy to update.

CGI, browsers, web design, scripting
...
I don't have a bunch of interesting adventures to talk about; mostly I've been working on my web-building skills. Yesterday I did a semi-major revamp of my design site:
glassangel.com.

javascript, poetry, PHP, CGI

I'm spending most of my time brushing up on my web building skills. Each day I rotate lessons in PHP, javaScript, Python and CGI/Perl, and I spand another part of my day in basic web design.

glassangel, web design, art deco
This business of taking photographs with my phone is for the birds-- and even
they are complaining...
Anyway, as I was walking home last night, I was walking through *ahem* Petaluma's Historical Theatre District-- which pretty much consists of a movie theatre and-- um... actually, that's really
IT...
They
DO, however, have a rather nice art deco design for the otherwise pedestrian cinimaplex downtown. So as I was walking by I decided to take a couple of photgraphs (which appear on
my photos page), one of which is the
new splash page for my main site, which is kind of amusing for about two minutes, but I simply
MUST come up with a more professional looking design if I'm ever going to get any paying gigs out of it.
I spent
WAAAYYY more time today than I ever should have spent on it, trying to cobble together a natural-looking (FAILED) marquee for the middle of the photo leading into my site, including what was supposed to be a neon sign (failing again) reading "glassangel".
Anyway, I have other work to do, so I guess it's "Back to Work"...
