A clear conscience is usually the sign of a bad memory

Calling for a just war?

, ,

Don't get me wrong, please. I am not in favour of wars - on the contrary.

But sometimes there's a call for a "just" war in the world. Many have described the western "adventures" in Iraq as a just war. I strongly disagree. To me, the war in Iraq is all about defending achieved privileges in the west.

Others have described WW2 as a just war. Maybe so....

That's a long story - I'd rather go straight to the point:

Myanmar. Burma. The situation is horrendous - you know that, I'm sure. People are dying as I write from deceases, thirst and hunger because a government, well, rather a junta can't stand the idea that foreign people bringing life-saving necessities into the country will see and report the misery and maybe even bring "wrong" ideas to the population of Burma just before a scheduled "election".

For that reason tonnes and tonnes of high-energy biscuits and other life-saving stuff is standing idle in airports just outside Burma.

That's obviously absolutely insane. A catastrophe of the present scale should cast all other considerations aside and should allow any help needed to access the country immediately.

Of course. Otherwise I will not hesitate to call the present political situation a genocide.

I have been told that the obvious solution to the problem, namely dropping emergency supplies from aircrafts without permission from the junta, can't be done since it would be an act of war.

This, I think, calls for a just war. I am not in doubt.

Scandinavian Nights

, ,

It's so hard to go to bed early these days.

First of all, it's summer - and summer came early this year. Days are sunny and my head feels dizzy when I get home after work from all the outdoor living and the massive bombardment of light and colours my senses must endure.

Secondly, Nights of Light are here. Meaning that the sky is illuminated with sunshine all night, even though the sun has disappeared under the horizon. It's travelling for a few hours just out of sight before it rises again - and we can start all over.

Evenings in the garden with white wine and talking turn into nights - and we hardly notice it. Nights of Light deprive us from our sleep.

The above photo is taken just after midnight standing in front of my house, overlooking the street, a bit of my 'hood and the Scandinavian midnight sky.

Note to self: Tomorrow I really need to crash before midnight.

Nothing's New Under The Sun

, ,

Just a short entry - to celebrate.

It's not that there are new and revolutionary things happening in my life. No, on the contrary.

Business as usual.

It's just that it's summer. It started today - at approximately the same time as it does every year. But nevertheless it's a wonderful miracle. I am in awe. One month ago, my world was cold, grey and rainy. Now it's warm, filled with colur and sunshine.

I won't ramble along about this. Everyone knows what summer is like - even though Scandinavians might value it higher than most others.

No - as the photography-nerd that I am, I will post a photo taken in my garden late afternoon today.

Here you go. It's filled with summer.

International Workers' Day

, ,

Today May Day was celebrated in Aarhus, Danmark - my home town.

This celebration was also a day of protest and demonstration, since several unions in Danmark are on strike at the moment for higher wages and better conditions.

I am to the left politically, that's no secret. So I was glad to be able to participate this may 1st. I brought a camera with me because I thought there would be plenty of photo opportunities at an event like this.

I was right. And I'm happy to share a few.

Music is essential at all occasions

A nice day indeed. For me it's like celebrating Chistmas - tradition, dedication and getting together at the same time.

Terror and Intelligence

, ,

I sometimes get terribly irritated with all the security issues in airports, train stations and other public places.

I find it soothing for my soul, though, if somebody care to make fun or satire on serious subjects like that.

Having experienced numerous false bomb-alarms originating from forgotten and harmless suitcases with traffic stand-stills and general turmoil as the consequence, I felt an inexplainable urge to behave very, very immature.

Read on in order to see a little "thingy" I made today. I saw something like it in Danish and found it so funny that I made my own version for our English speaking friends (and allies).

I really should warn children and other innocent souls, that the following picture contains nudity. Hereby done, then.
