My message in a bottle

Girl

,

Girl,
your womanhood not yet unfolded

Girl,
still innocent in thought and deed

Girl,
hungrily biting bits of your time as you go

Girl,
now in your teens but in just one short while

Girl,
you will reach the end and understand

that it will all be good in the end
life is yours to conquer and lose

Very nice, both the photo and the words.

Stardancer 14. September 2009, 22:28

Beautiful, Allan.

Reminds me of one my favorites.

Edward Piercy 14. September 2009, 22:38

Beautiful on both counts, Allan.

Darko 15. September 2009, 04:38

Nice photo.

:sst: do you have her phone number? E-mail?

:D

Martin K 15. September 2009, 05:19

I like her expression. Looks as if she is just about to say something or perhaps sing. For some reason I have the impression that she has a nice voice for singing.

This is a very good picture, Allan. One of your best.

Allan 15. September 2009, 07:06

Glad you like it, good people.

I saw her at the demonstration regarding the evicted refugees the other day. Her face was lit by a torch only.
I spotted her and knew she'd have a photogenic face, so I showed her my camera, pointed at it and smiled at her, and she nodded - looking happy with the thought of being photographed.

To me, the photo is talking about youth and lust for life the way I remember it myself.

studio41 15. September 2009, 07:41

very lovely, Allan

Allan 15. September 2009, 10:14

Thanks, Jill.

By the way, Darko - she's too young for what you think  But that can't be seen on the photo - so you're forgiven.

Ana 15. September 2009, 10:29

Well done! An excellent photo and words.

Nicolas Borgsmidt 15. September 2009, 10:54

The mask of youth. Beautiful Allan. The lines and scars of experience is yet to come.
And behind that face, there's a brain that can manipulate, even the strongest Samson :D

Darko 15. September 2009, 11:25

Homer: Doh!

Allan 15. September 2009, 12:31

Thank you so much, Anita and Nicolas.

Darko - errare humanum est, as they said in Rome once upon a time

der Wandersmann 15. September 2009, 14:21

And they proved it, too!

Martin K 15. September 2009, 16:35

Making mistakes or being unfortunate is universal. Even God made some mistakes. Just look at the hippopotamus...

Allan 15. September 2009, 17:20

They sure did, the Romans.

Or one self without clothes in a huge mirror, Martin. I mean, either it's a mistake or it's a practical joke.

I just see that as proof beyond doubt that God has a sense of humor.

:D

Martin K 16. September 2009, 06:14

I have the body of a greek god, which is why I find the image of my self in the mirror quite dull, actually...

Stardancer 16. September 2009, 06:15

Allan 16. September 2009, 07:21

God has a great sense of humor - but sometimes he fails, like in Martin's case.

Martin K 16. September 2009, 17:46

Seriously, it's not at all funny to be forever young. I look at my feet and they are absolutely the same as when I was sixteen. I've been looking at those feet, looking perfect and harmonic as from the hands of an ancient artist, several times each day of my adult life.

It's depressing, really.

I have friends of my own age who hesitate to look in the mirror, because they fear they will fall to the ground with a massive heart attack by the sight of a single wrinkle under the eyes...

I have DEEP SCARS in my face, for Christ sake! (Excuse my blasphemy.)

Halleluja, brothers and sisters! If you have no marks in your face, it's propably because you have never been outside a door, because a streak of providence and good fortune have lead you cross a sea of untroubled waters since you were four years of age. I have been in dire straits, faced the monsters of misfortune and delt with both pirates and Spanyards. And yes, the struggle shows in my face.

However, my feet are the same, though it was those same feet who got me through it all.

Thus concludes today's preach. God bless.

Allan 16. September 2009, 19:21

Amen

Nicolas Borgsmidt 16. September 2009, 20:25

Apropos feet. I wonder if Jesus walked on the water once more, after the crusifixion, After raising from his grave. I mean it must be difficult with holes in the feet

Darko 16. September 2009, 21:00

Nick

mine too, and that's not a good thing.

He doesn't need me to defend Him, but nothing is too difficult for Christ, if He chooses to walk on water, He walks on it. piece of cake. and for those who are found in Him, we will defy all the elements and so forth with glorified bodies one day- marvelous truth and thanks for bringing it up again, I was thinking on that the past day- amazing grace how sweet the sound. it will be wonderful. truly amazing.

Martin K 17. September 2009, 08:15

'Through many dangers, snares and toils...'

This young woman seems to be ready for that journey.

studio41 17. September 2009, 08:22

through many dangers, toils and snares I have already come,...
perhaps we will sing together sometime, Martin, I sure hope so (hey, am purchasing those drumsticks this week from you for my son, btw- and thanks!)

Allan 17. September 2009, 10:27

Amazing how much some random words and a photo can generate from skilled commenters....

Nicolas Borgsmidt 17. September 2009, 13:34

My feet looks terrible :frown:

I'm glad that I haven't got the skill of walking on water. Diving would be impossible.

I've just been diving at Faial, one of the Azorean isles. Saw a small sperm whale

Martin K 17. September 2009, 14:56

I've heard about foot fetishism. Not me. I have a food fetish. I think about food all the time. I can't help it.

zeroG 17. September 2009, 20:25

Hi Alan. Just came by to see how's everyone :-). Hope you're OKay.
Btw, nice photo (as always).

Allan 17. September 2009, 20:41

And in-between the wonderful off-topic comments an old friend returns from his Sabbath. Hi, Zero!

Stardancer 18. September 2009, 15:29

Howdy, Allan.

I was just thinking about you, and wanted to say hello. Hope you are feeling well.

Martin K 18. September 2009, 18:34

@Studio

Californian hickory is the best choice. Just ask in the store. If they are out, buy Australian cedar. No composits and no colours. Colour will mark the skin of the drums, and composit consists of all kinds of strange chemicals and is not good for the drummers own skin; he could get a terrible rash or even blisters.

studio41 19. September 2009, 08:50

thanks for the info. appreciate it!

Shaunak De 20. September 2009, 21:55

Elegant photo and the words to go with it.

studio41 21. September 2009, 09:04

he had a great lesson, Martin. wanted you to know.

Allan 21. September 2009, 09:10

Thank you so much, Shaunak

Martin K 21. September 2009, 13:14

@Studio :D

studio41 22. September 2009, 09:10

Martin, you can call me Jill, if you like -- now, I guess we need to get him a drum kit along with those sticks?! :D

Martin K 22. September 2009, 11:20

Well, Jill, I saw on TV just yesterday a guy who had build a drum kit from junk - plastic buckets and metal lids and stuff like that - attached to an original drum kit rack. It actually looked really cool. However, as he emphasized, a home made drum kit like that will only last for about a week, because things will break if you kick and hit them. Plus, it didn't exactly sound like real rock'n'roll drums, more like if you have an accident while transporting a box of junk down some stairs.

If your son keeps his interest and practice, he will enter a league of fine gentlemen (did you know, Allan himself used to be a drummer as well?).

Tell the rest of your family to respect Rule Number One in the Rock'n'Roll Book of Laws:

Don't mess with the drummer.

And tell him to take care, because even though it does take super human powers to play the drums, conventional weapons might still harm him. Most drummers don't realize this.

muse 23. September 2009, 02:51

Your writing and this photo are both stirring and very poignant. I really like it.

I imagine my son has this in his room already, I will check. thanks for the tip!

to the rest of your comment, LOL, loved it. (and I already know it)
