My message in a bottle

A Sad Day

All things must pass. We all know that. But it always feels like a smack in the face when it happens.

Today I will have to let my old, trusty trainers go. They are definitely dead now. *sigh*

Will you join me in one minute of silence to honour these old friends of mine?

And I guarantee you will never find another pair like those, though you will try.

oh dear, you had me going. I thought you'd resigned from work. You've only retired your sneakers.

Well then, I comply, Slava im!!!

May they rest in peace. Amen. If you want to make some dogs very happy. Give them your ol´ trainers! Remember to remove the shoe laces

Thanks, everybody. It's always like this when I have to say goodbye to good, old footwear. I feel kind of attached.

Silly. I know.

Hi Allan !

I know....it is so difficult....and especially shoes that you really have as a soeciel purpose and that fit your feet so well.....but they look like seen their best days, I must admit.....I have some for many years and they split from top to bottom, so letting them go was more easy.....

but I guess they deserve some kind of goodby.....understandable.....

Stardancer 21. September 2009, 21:03

As I've been packing to move, I've been going through my closet, throwing out old shoes and stuff. I came across a pair I haven't worn in probably 5 or more years, looks a lot like yours. Had to go in the trash bin.

I think I understand exactly how you feel, Allan.

Firelighters! Put them in with the fuel in the bunker.
=o}

Mick-E 21. September 2009, 23:29

You could turn them into planters. Mam did that with some of my brother's and my old shoes.

Richard 22. September 2009, 02:08

 I will join you!

Its headed to a better place....

Allan 22. September 2009, 07:24

Firelighters! Planters?

I think I will have them stuffed and put on a shelf in our living room. I am sure my wife will love that idea.

Edward Piercy 22. September 2009, 19:21

You could take that photo of them and frame it and put it on the wall or on the desk alongside your family photos. Boy that would certainly get your visitors going WTF????

I hope you have found yourself a good pair of new ones that will serve you just as well.

WillYum 22. September 2009, 20:06

I like pictures like this.

As if a portrait to capture their glory, merely symbolic of their greatness but they have walked many miles with you, do they deserve any less?

No!

Carry on, brave soldiers.

muse 23. September 2009, 02:53

I recently duck-taped my favorite flip flops so I wouldn't have to part with them, too bad that wouldn't save your shoes, but your tribute here honors them well. *a single tear rolls down cheek.

Fare thee well, many happy running trails in your dreams, o faithful shoes.

Allan 26. September 2009, 13:23

Thanks for the comments still coming.

I have the feeling than others also feel for their footwear

I have yet to part with my favorite sneakers. Never wear them anymore - dream of finding another pair just like them... :frown:

I know how you feel. rip

I once charcoaled an old pair of favourite boots, it was very nice and worthy of wall hanging... perhaps a nobler exit than the dogs...

I will soon, I've found them on Ebay, and will probably duplicate the experience, just a thought, Issy.
