Come Visit Denmark the Virtual Way

, ,

It's been a long time for sure - but today Google decided to open virtual access to Denmark via Google Street View.

So, now you will be able to travel to Denmark and visit the homes of the Danes you know on your computer.

You could begin with dropping by my home in Risskov, northern suburban Aarhus. Now, go here - and when done type "nordre strandvej 111b risskov" in the search frame and drag the yellow man to the mark showing my home.

I have visited many other bloggers' cities and places while reading entries. I find it interesting to see everyone's daily environment - even if it's just a crummy picture on a computer screen. I usually take a stroll in the surrounding neighborhood, or I look at the shops, the architecture, the way things are organized - in short I like to get a an impression of the lives people are living judging from what I can see as a passer-by.

Better than nothing, right?

So Much For Global WarmingGood Bye Everybody

Awesome! Mine is 2919 Saffold Road, Wimauma, Florida. But you can't really see my house. The building I see is our barn.

This is funny. Thanks for the inspiration. I might have to cancel all other appointments today. Mine is Snorresvej 65, Odense, Denmark. The pictures are fairly updated as far as I can see.

PainterWoman Friday, January 22, 2010 6:05:50 AM

How cool is that! My street is from two years ago because I no longer have the Honda that's parked out front. And I see my 95 year old neighbor mowing his lawn across the street!

studio41 Friday, January 22, 2010 10:33:05 AM

lol Pam! your neighbor was mowing! that's just great... ours was probably out with his sweet pup.

Allan, I've seen your house, it would be so wonderful to show up at the door to invite myself for tea...

Allanricewood Friday, January 22, 2010 10:53:06 AM

Nice comments, all - and an entirely new agenda for Google Corp.

It would be nice if there was such a thing as virtual tea in connection with Google Street View. A "knock, knock" button, a "put the kettle on" button and a "lemon or milk" button, too

bigsmile

LéazzBabyJay99 Friday, January 22, 2010 1:38:23 PM

Like FB applications Sir Allan? faint

Allanricewood Friday, January 22, 2010 6:46:39 PM

Yeah, something like that

Martin K™Aqualion Friday, January 22, 2010 7:14:35 PM

People have already started scoping Street View for friends. Just saw on television, there's a Danish guy who was captured by the Google Cams falling of his bike, and you can see him in the middle of his fall, and if you 'turn around' you can see other people looking at him.

that was fun. i did the yellow man... then a three sixty slow twirl. then the aerial view. do you have a hammock in your backyard? or are you in the row of redroofed houses?
oh, i must go back and see how far the beach is. happy

scott cummingI_ArtMan Saturday, January 23, 2010 12:30:58 AM

i found the natural history museum. that looks interesting. i guess you walk to the docks and then there would be a jogging trail or something... looks like north to me, then finally a lot of greenery and a long stretch of beach. it's a drive though. well, mine, for your perusal is not as interesting, is: 13131 barbara ann st. north hollywood, ca.,u.s.a.

My house is the one with the chestnut tree in the garden and a grey Toyota parked in front of it in the street.

Mette, thank you the nice words - I thank you on behalf of my nation. You're welcome, every one of you. I can tell you that I have had some of my best vacations in Norway. Trekking the mountains isn't exactly something you do here in Denmark wink

I like how you guys find it amusing to stroll along around the world like this smile

MettePusilille Saturday, January 23, 2010 7:44:02 PM

hehe.. bigsmile "stroll along the world" lol lol
Yeah...we travel alot, we are kind of curious of everyone and everything, and long for the freedom being a traveling Norwegian bigsmile
(mind you Allan, all this drinking we do when we are out among others are something I do not like to see)
The beaches in Denmark is more tempting than the Norwegian mountains I think happy lol lol

Allanricewood Saturday, January 23, 2010 7:59:54 PM

Drinking? Norwegians drinking? Naaaah!

Besides, anyone can be thirsty once in a while....

MettePusilille Saturday, January 23, 2010 8:04:59 PM

p beer cheers cheers Yeah... but... like in drowning Allan!
We Norwegians are drowning all over in the world cheers doh faint

Allanricewood Saturday, January 23, 2010 9:43:17 PM

Well, Danish beer is good. That serves as a reasonable excuse. It would be worse if you guys actually did drown by the beach you like so much

MettePusilille Sunday, January 24, 2010 12:13:05 AM

With close on then... lol lol

MettePusilille Sunday, January 24, 2010 12:13:21 AM

As usual when in a new city I walked from your house straight up Nordre Strandvej without making any turns so as to not get lost. Went past the "Potpourri" and then the Nehan Cykler -- I assume that is some sort of bicycle shop. Then I seem to have inadvertently caught a bus and went just a little further up to Fortevej.

I was looking for a convenient bar to have a pint, but didn't see one. Then I came home.

I was surprised by the number of businesses that had English on their signs.

A wonderful trip. Thanks!

Allanricewood Tuesday, January 26, 2010 9:35:22 AM

I must admit that I live at least one mile away from a regular bar. There are posh restaurants, but the ordinary good, old drop-in bar I'll have to to travel to faint

I would normally go to the city - but that's no more than 15 minutes away by bus.

You are right about the bike shop. I bought my bike there, in fact.

Glad you dropped by.
