My New Toy

, , ,

Ladies and Gentlemen - behold my new mobile:

The Nokia E71. Probably the best working mobile I've ever had. It's slick, sturdy and since I've been accustomed to Symbian as Operating System through the years, I have had no problems customizing it the way I like it.

One of the first things I did was to download and install Opera Mini. Opera Mini was, by the way, the reason I entered Opera Community years back. I was told by a friend that the best browser for a mobile came from some obscure Norwegian company with the name of a musical genre. I tried it, and was very satisfied with it - and discovered that Opera was more than just a browser for mobiles. Much more, in fact - including blogging software. The rest is history.

This entry is, of course, made on my E71. Except from the picture, which I found somewhere on the ´Net and stored on my Mac.

I am not a Nokia fan but I like this one. Some of my friends has it and they are more than satisfied up

KimberlySqueakeyCat Thursday, July 2, 2009 6:41:00 PM

cool, hope it works better than my Motorola Q9 does. every day since getting it, I have had to readjust the damn time on it. it keeps jumping 2 days into the future several times per day, and of course, ATT has no idea how to fix it, and i can't get ahold of Motorola either.

studio41 Thursday, July 2, 2009 9:04:34 PM

perhaps I could figure how to turn it on (if you told me how) lol bigsmile enjoy!

Nicolas Borgsmidtnopanic Thursday, July 2, 2009 9:12:04 PM

What kind of coffee does it make confused

Allanricewood Thursday, July 2, 2009 9:54:33 PM

Same kind of mobile, Kimberly. Another smartphone. I don't know about rules and regulations at your place - but here we would have to address our complaints to the shop which sold it.

Jill, what is it with you and mobiles? smile This is easier to handle than the average full size computer...

Nicolas. This one can't make coffee - but it does a damned good job frying eggs!

Darko, what is your fav mobile brand?

Darkogdare Thursday, July 2, 2009 10:06:28 PM

My first phone was Siemens and second is Benq-Siemens, so you may say it is Siemens, in general. But my next phone will be some of HTC models up

Allanricewood Thursday, July 2, 2009 10:09:48 PM

The new Android? Google-phone, you know?

scott cummingI_ArtMan Friday, July 3, 2009 3:57:48 AM

looks great and i'm sure it's enjoyable. last week i signed up for the latest iphone... but i couldn't get it because i spent all the money i had been saving for five months on a toyota camry... saying: "first things first"

six years ago someone i don't know left their nokia in the back seat of my car. i took it to the shop and they gave it a new card. i've been using it ever since. works just fine. never have a problem with it.

i guess i can wait a few months for a new phone. i want to be able to post in opera from the mountain top. now i have found out by reading online that the new iphone doesn't allow opera. as we say f- them. i'll copy you and get a nokia.

Darkogdare Friday, July 3, 2009 5:32:18 AM

Yes, HTC Hero will be my choice even though I wanted model "Cruise" before. Just will need to wait for a price to be affordable to me left

This phone will be available in Europe from this month on, so in Serbia it will be August-September. And I don`t think it will cost less than 500 eur which is too much, if you ask me scared

studio41 Friday, July 3, 2009 6:26:13 AM

fries eggs? does it do windows?

KimberlySqueakeyCat Friday, July 3, 2009 7:05:24 AM

I got it from ATT themselves. It was one of the choices I was given to replace the other phone I had that kept giving me problems.

I thought this one would be better, and it is to an extent. The main problem I have with it is that the time keeps changing in its own.

there are times throughout the day that I have to change it back to the correct day and time. it has the habit of adding 2 days and a few hours and whether it is am or pm.

been trying to figure that out, as to why it does it, since I got it, with no help at all from ATT or Motorola.

Allanricewood Friday, July 3, 2009 7:14:10 AM

Now, Scott - that was one affordable way to get a new mobile bigsmile

I have thought a lot about touch screen, and have come to the preliminary conclusion that they're not for me. I don't like it when the screen gets all smudgy from my greasy little fingers.

I looked at the Android, and was ready to buy a few weeks ago - but it only came with a fixed provider - and one that I don't like. That and the touch screen....

Windows? No, I guess I'll have to do them myself bigsmile

Kimberly, that mobile (which I know next to nothing about) can you not look around in some settings and make it adjust time according to your provider's informations?

Nicolas Borgsmidtnopanic Friday, July 3, 2009 8:46:32 PM

An egg phone eh. How corny bigsmile

What a nice toy you got for yourself up

There is a say that people remain children deep inside smile

Wish it serves you well.

Angelikiellinidata Saturday, July 4, 2009 3:34:54 PM

Congrats Allan! Enjoy!

I am back smile

Allanricewood Saturday, July 4, 2009 5:45:28 PM

Anita, some say that's mainly men smile

That Sony sure looks interesting, too!

Kimberly, You really shouldn't settle for that. None of my business, though.

Angeliki, welcome back....

Edward Piercyedwardpiercy Saturday, July 4, 2009 6:54:28 PM

Sweet!

Allan, I'm very happy for you.

The e71 is advertised here as being the thinest smartphone available.

I just bought a rubberized skin for mine. It is so slick I was afraid I would drop the thing. Also helps against bumping it.

Allanricewood Saturday, July 4, 2009 8:22:06 PM

Mine has a wristband attached - if I will.

I looked at the Blackberry in the shop - and was tempted. But I am so much used to the Symbian OS.

Edward Piercyedwardpiercy Saturday, July 4, 2009 8:57:12 PM

Well I can understand quite well about the whole Linux OS thing. Torvald was a genius.

I think the Blackberry OS/feature set is very quirky. In fact I think they keep it puposely that way way because they wanted older Blackberry users to still feel comfortable on the thing. At least that's my theory.

In any case I hope you enjoy the new toy. Martin already has my mail for texting, and should you want mine just PM me.

Allanricewood Saturday, July 4, 2009 9:17:23 PM

Just for the record - Symbian is an OS made by a number of mobile producers in cooperation, and therefore has nothing to do with Linux. Apart from that, the whole Linux-thing is great. Not for me though - on a regular computer I am a Mac person.

Edward Piercyedwardpiercy Saturday, July 4, 2009 9:36:52 PM

Ah. My mistake. I thought Symbian was some newer Linux flavor.

OS X has a Linux component though, yeah?

Allanricewood Saturday, July 4, 2009 9:51:40 PM

Nope. Mac is made by Apple - OS as well as hardware.

scott cummingI_ArtMan Tuesday, July 7, 2009 2:13:41 AM

i got so confused reading about all those phones... i think i'll just do my internet on my pc. and when i'm gone... i'll just be gone. as usual. happy

Edward Piercyedwardpiercy Tuesday, July 7, 2009 2:24:13 AM

lol

And as Buckaroo Bonzai said, "No matter where you go, there you are."

scott cummingI_ArtMan Tuesday, July 7, 2009 4:43:30 AM

every where i go, there i am. yes, ed. that's why i like to get into the hills at least once a year; to meet myself again.

Allanricewood Tuesday, July 7, 2009 5:34:04 AM

I am so glad to know - I always wondered where I went when going offline!

bigsmile bigsmile bigsmile

scott cummingI_ArtMan Tuesday, July 7, 2009 5:55:42 AM

i'm headed for the high sierras i've heard so much about. maybe i will be there. bigsmile

Allanricewood Tuesday, July 7, 2009 5:58:28 AM

I am heading for my job smile I'm sure I'll be there.

scott cummingI_ArtMan Tuesday, July 7, 2009 6:00:50 AM

great thing about a job. smile

Allanricewood Tuesday, July 7, 2009 6:03:34 AM

Apart from the money allowing me to buy mobiles, of course....

scott cummingI_ArtMan Tuesday, July 7, 2009 6:44:18 AM

hey, i am the first to admit that 'things', when desired, will make me happy. but that's a level. sometimes i rise above the material world but not for long. lol mostly because i am not very conversant with the immaterial world, i guess.

have a great day, allan. happy

Allanricewood Tuesday, July 7, 2009 6:48:12 AM

Same to you, friend....
