Ricewood About To Enter Art Heaven
Wednesday, 9. July 2008, 22:28:23
It sure doesn't happen often. Once a year - tops!
But last night I couldn't sleep. I don't know why. I was all sweaty, tossing and turning. Probably also annoying The Missus - She Who Must Be Obeyed.
When I finally realized that I couldn't sleep, and there was nothing in the world that I could do about it, I chose to get up and get dressed. And since it was night, and a Night of Light too, I thought I could as well use my time for something that would make me happy rather than sitting in a corner being sour about the non-sleep situation.
From my photo-bag I selected my D300 camera together with my wide-angle lens and mounted it on a tripod. I threw it all into the back of the car and drove to the city. In the next couple of hours I took about a hundred photos of the night in the town. That, plus processing one of the shots, took me four hours. After which I fell asleep like a child.
Ricewood Entering Art Heaven
The photograph depicts my humble self on my way up the stairs to our local art museum, Aros, hence the name of the photo.
I think I will try and see if I can sell the picture to the museum. Even if I can't, I am glad I didn't settle for the tossing and turning.

Wow, do you feel safe walking around at night? I think I'd be too afraid.

"Probably also annoying The Missus - She Who Must Be Obeyed"
You have no idea!

Very nice picture.
I like the different shades of blue. The black contrast in the building and the stairways kind of metallic look is cool.
And a humble human being entering this huge black cube.
Is this art ?
;-)

Hi Allan !
very good and very great photo...love the blue, blue, blue....and especially the black in the building..the black is so wooly at the outline, just like some artprints are..that I really love....a great picture.....

Is it art? If someone would please define art, I would be happy to decide whether this is art or not
Thank you so much, best of people, for commenting and complimenting on my night-escapades.

I love to walk at night, my concern is the four legged critters rather than the two legged variety. They don't steal camera equipment and if they did bother a photographer, think of that amazing last shot!

and i can't help but say, you are just like me. you would rather do domething than 'stew'. but that's so interesting; that inate restlessness.
it may be a pain, but it is the energy of a creative soul. i am grateful for that sense of urgency. i am sure it's connected to the meaning and the sense and aim of our existence.

"Do I feel safe walking around at night? Of course I do. The worst thing imaginable would be that some asshat stole my camera. That's happened before. But no asshat will decide for me when and where to walk. Night or day, city or countryside."
i think it shows a great understanding of life. we must not be afraid.
just thought i'd mention that.

there is enough time for everything.
By I_ArtMan, # 23. July 2008, 06:20:29
Yes, Scott. There's enough time. If we let time have it's place.

a pox on the rules... there are no rules which can guide me better than my own intuition.
sometimes i say, "you'll sleep plenty when you're dead..." that's when life is good and i feel immortal.
but as a true believer in practical reality, and luckily free now, finally, from the 'yoke', i sleep until i feel better.
