Out of debt

Today Denmark is finally out of it´s debt to other countries. Well - in the sense that we own more abroad than others own in Denmark. It´s the netto-debt that´s become positive for the first time in 40 odd years.

All my adult life I have heard that the state and the municipalities have had to cut down on services because of the national debt. That being history, I´m looking forward to the situation where our government will become visionary when it comes to public service. I assume we can afford it now!

I have a suspicion, though, that they will find another reason to cut down in public service. Well, we´ll see about that.

Almost as good as a Photograph? What´s in a name?

I wouldn't get my hopes up to soon. As you probably know Norway has an oil-fund with billions of dollars, but here hospitals are ordered to treat fewer patients, the road looks like something you'd expect to find in Afghanistan, dental care is for the welthy (welfare for all???) and everything is fracking expensive!

And now our meat is full of E-Coli!

This reminds me of simcity (a game where you are the mayor of a city). When your economics go well sims (the citizens) say something like "Extra cash reserves make Sims want more from everything". The problem is that that's when you (as a mayor) get crazy and all you want is to expand. Hmmm

Good for Denmark. A good example to all of us...

Thanks for the comments.

Well, maybe this is good for Denmark. But being debt free hasn´t come without cost. From ´87 the worst-off members of our society have had some very tough times. Immigrants, the mentally ill, the unemployed.
I have a strong feeling that this kind of politics will be continued even now when we´re out of debt.

But the well-off people owning their homes and having good jobs will have a bright economical future ahead of them, I reckon.

Personally I would prefer a coherent society with a slower money-flow, though.
