My message in a bottle

Two days of Winter

Today we woke up to the first snow. I remember the first morning of snow when I was a child to be filled with magic and joy.

Today it´s mostly an annoyance. Well, not entirely - but partly, at least. It´s still nice to see the well known world change overnight. But the pavement needs to be cleared from snow, it´s expensive to keep the house warm and the traffic jams are even worse than they use to be.

No - let me become a child once more. I´ll grab my favourite tool which will provide that effect; my camera. Looking through the viewfinder, my vision becomes childish again, and I see the magic of a world changing right in front of me.

Our house in the first snow

My poor rose!

According to the met-office, the winter will last for two days, then we´ll return to normal autumn.

WE do not have snow yet, but soon we shall also expereance this metamorphosis.
The photos are wonderful, especially your poor rose.

Love,
Ramute.

Yes I do remember the first snow, when I was a kid. It was magical. Don't think I will see much snow here in the UK, but that's ok

beautiful iced rose!:D

Allan 2. November 2006, 06:55

Ramute - metamorphosis seems like an appropriate expression

Asgeir: I assume not only you and I remember our childhood snow this way - most people do, don´t you think?

Thanks, Kate.

In the Nordic countries snow is regarded as something you can play with as a child, maybe it is different in other parts of the world?

I love your poor rose. Beautiful home, Allan. I admire your decision to become a child again. I think that's what it takes in life to truly recapture the wonder of being alive, whether it's to relish the first snow or to appreciate each breath. Whatever it is, it's *now*.

Maybe you´re right, Asgeir. Personally I wasn´t fascinated by snow for that reason. It was more the fairytale look all over the world. It was like a great party taking place everywhere.

Katie - thank you so much for your nice words. You´re right, of course - I realise that right *now*

In Poland we have winter form two days to  Flowers in my garden and others peoples gardens suffer the same demage but i think that sometimes under the snow they are looking very beautifully like this rose on your photo for example

Nice house Allan:) I can see that the parabole disc is pointing towards CNN and BBC WORLD :D

Allan 4. November 2006, 13:14

Yes, Tylda. A comforting thought that the snow actually - if the layer is thick enough - actually protects the plants underneath from the frost. So there´s still hope of nice flowers this year.

Nicolas, BBC world makes the best news of the two on my disc.

Thanks, both, for commenting.

Hi Allan
I have them programmed right beside each other and I like switching from the one to the other... just to compare and often it gives the strangest results. Especially if it´s the same story they handle:D
