Opera to Phone Extension - Support Page

, , ,

The Opera to Phone extension adds a button to Opera that allows users to send links from their Opera desktop browser to their Android device using Android's Cloud to Device Messaging service.

You need to install Chrome to Phone for Android on your phone for this extension to work. This application can be downloaded from the Android Market (search for 'Chrome to Phone') or directly from the project downloads page. Requires a mobile phone running Android 2.2 ("Froyo") or later.

Extension Features

  • Send links to the Android browser.
  • Google Maps links launch the Google Maps Android app.
  • YouTube links launch the YouTube Android app.
  • Selecting phone numbers in Web pages launches the Android dialer with the number pre-populated.
  • Selected text populates the Android clipboard (long-press on text boxes to get paste option).

Hello, dev!
Do you have any plans to make it compatible with iPhone (iOS devices)?

asdmutrix Sunday, December 19, 2010 7:20:09 PM

I can not login.

korotkov Monday, December 20, 2010 2:03:06 PM

"cannot access the current tab" What does this mean?

TuxDude Tuesday, December 21, 2010 1:41:40 PM

Nice extension - works cleanly with my DroidX \m/

Initially I thought it requires Opera on the phone to work but then realized it is an Android app/extension on the phone and redirects it to the browser. On the phone you need to have set up your default browser as Opera to open the link in Opera, otherwise it would either open up the link in the default browser or give you a choice....

So the concept is correct, people can use whichever browser on their mobile device to receive and open the link smile

Not working for me. No idea why not. I click on Opera to Phone and it says Sending To Phone. But it never sends... I am logged into Google on my laptop and Chrome to Phone is running on my DroidX. Anyone...?

timmi Thursday, January 27, 2011 9:54:41 AM

Selecting text does not work for me. Every time i select a text fragment and click on the icon, it sends the URL.

Rich Tibbettrichtr Friday, January 28, 2011 1:44:06 PM

@timmi could you provide the URL you are using where this behavior is occurring? Thanks.

Hi,

Doesn't send through navigation directions to my phone properly. When I do a directions search then hit "to phone" it fires up maps with the first query I searched on maps for. In fact, it doesn't seem to send through the current maps query to the phone.

eg.
I do a google search for "pubs" then hit the maps link, it goes to maps with a search for "pubs".
Then I search for "flowers"
then hit Opera to Phone
Maps launches on my phone with a search for "pubs"

Go directly to maps
do any search
hit Opera to Phone
blank map loads on my phone

This is with a Nexus S

Lamentably, doesn't let me sign in. Dragging the "sign in" link to a page DOES let me sign in, but doesn't sign the application in, which means it doesn't help much! Fingers crossed this can be fixed smile

Using: Opera 11.01

MyOpera team, please fix this!fearphage Monday, March 14, 2011 6:43:41 PM

Hey Rich, I'm working on adding some more functionality (like the other extensions). I'm having an issue with the content not being pushed to the phone. Want to give it a look?

https://github.com/fearphage/opera-to-phone-extension/

I'm posting the message from the userjs to the background page but then nothing happens from there.

Chris Thompsonchristh21 Thursday, March 17, 2011 11:04:59 PM

How do I change the account I'm logged in with? Right now it's not working and I want to sign out and back in again to make sure it's the right account that's signed in, but there's no signout button like in Chrome to Phone.

Quit working for me as well. cry

Can't login. Nothing happens when clicking "Please sign in to Opera to Phone."

It's working for me, but in the Chrome to Phone extension, you can send highlighted text that you type in, in an input box or something of the sort. Opera to Phone only seems to be able to send text already on the web page. Would you be able to send what the user has typed as well?

Can't seem to log in with opera ll.5, does the extension need updating?

Hello

Can you add "Send to phone" on the right click context menu for selected text/picture/link...

Thank you

If app says - Please log in, you must switch to "open popup windows".

kevinx1 Thursday, January 19, 2012 7:31:59 PM

Trying to send something to my HTC Desire HD (which DOES have Chrome to Phone installed, and works fine with Chrome), but when I use the extension Opera to Phone, I see the following message: "Error sending to phone: general_error"

It used to work fine, but that is the message I get now :-(
Chrome to Phone works fine.
I have re-installed the extension, but still no joy :-(

Any help please.

Thanks

Thank you. For anyone else that clicks Sign In link and gets nothing. Chose File Settings and Open All Pop Ups. Then try and log in once. You can switch pop ups off straight afterwards.

IT WOULD SEEM LIKE QUESTIONS POSTED ON HERE ARE IGNORED!
Do the mods not get involved?? Or are we left to "get on with it"? Very POOR..

All the "boxes are ticked" but STILL Opera reports "Error sending to phone: General_error"

I HAVE reloaded Opera. I HAVE reloaded the Extension. I DO have Chrome to Phone on my handset. Chrome to Phone DOES WORK.. Opera to Phone DOES NOT WORK, and posts are ignored!!

Rich Tibbettrichtr Tuesday, February 21, 2012 1:04:59 PM

I have been monitoring comments on this page but have not been able to reproduce any of the issues mentioned above. As of today, the extension is working as expected in my environment.

The entire extension is open source and can be viewed here:

http://code.google.com/p/chrometophone/source/browse/#svn%2Ftrunk%2Fthird_party%2Foperatophone

In case of any problems please do consider taking a look at the source code and trying to pinpoint any issues that may be present.

Could I have messed up some settings on my phone? Everything worked for a few days, now I can only get it to work after switching wifi off and on, also sometimes I get the "Error sending to phone: General_error". message.

MyOpera team, please fix this!fearphage Tuesday, February 28, 2012 5:32:01 PM

Where's the latest version? 1.3.4 seems to not work for me.

operaugr Friday, March 2, 2012 3:30:46 AM

I used to get the "Error sending to phone: General_error" message. Once I had installed "Chrome to Phone" on my phone and configured it, everything was OK.

Cheers

kevinx1 Saturday, March 3, 2012 10:52:22 AM

I have reported this so many times, but seems devs are not interested in offering a resolve :-(

Windows XPpro Service pack 3. I DO have Chrome to phone installed, and that works flawlessly. Opera to phone, however, ALWAYS reports "Error sending to phone: General_error".
Today I have AGAIN uninstalled and reinstalled from my pc, but still the same. Rubbish!, and terrible lack of support!

Icon appears fine, at the top right of Opera (v11.61), I tap the icon, to send something (this page for example) to my phone (DesireHD 2.3.5 Gingerbread) but all I see is "Error sending to phone: General_error" underneath the icon for sending.

SOME form of response would be nice!!!!

Thanks

(Yes, I AM frustrated with the lack of support!) :-(

@kevinx1 I did reply to your feedback earlier [1] but I have been unable to reproduce your error here. If I can't reproduce the error then I would need more information/input from your side such as any of the following:

- have you applied any custom settings in Opera? i.e. have you changed anything in opera:config?
- have you applied any JavaScript/Cookie blocking that may be preventing Opera to Phone from running (Opera to Phone requires JavaScript to be enabled for all sites).
- When you press Ctrl+Shift+O on your keyboard (to open the Opera Error Console) do you see any errors messages? If so, could you post them here?

I can understand that this extension not working is frustrating. As mentioned above, the source code for this extension is open-source [2] and the code can be reviewed openly by anyone to diagnose and fix any issues that may be present. I'm unable to pinpoint your exact issue at this point and the extension seems to be working for most other users.

If there's anything extra you could provide from the list above that may help to diagnose your problems further.
