Apple iPod Video只能够播放H.264以及mpeg4格式的视频，所以如果需要播放广为使用的DVD、Divx、RM、RMVB等格式就必须进行格式转换。幸运的是，虽然Apple iPod Video问世时间不久，但是相应的工具软件却已经很丰富了。网上轻松搜寻便收获不少，觅得如下几款转换工具：

经过作者试用，如果使用PQ DVD to iPod Video Converter这款软件进行格式转换的话，只需要视频文件名和字幕文件名相同，转换后的视频文件就是带字幕的了，很方便。另外，这款软件的未注册版本之能够转换6分钟的长度。
由于大多RMVB格式的片源的字幕都是嵌入的，字体不能够调节大小，所以有时候会遇到格式转换后在iPod Video上看不清楚的情况，毕竟iPod Video的屏幕就这么大。因此，建议使用Divx+字幕的形式进行格式转换，这样一方面片源质量有了保证，另外可以自己调节字幕字体的大小，方便在iPod Video的屏幕上能够看得清楚。
如上所说，在转换的时候最好能够适当调整字幕字体的大小，方便在iPod的小屏幕上观看。经过数次的实际使用，个人觉得字体大小调整到26或者28为佳。
